Just decided to possibly add some dark side travels to our Disney trip. We would be going Sept 5th (Friday) and 6th (Saturday) according to Touring Plans --we should be able to do most rides in each park in about 5 hours (each). We will have Universal Express Passes for an on site hotel stay and 1 hr early entry on day 2. Anyone with experience at Universal the 1st week of Sept. I was planning on arriving around 3pm Friday to go to IOA which is open until 7 I believe. Then Day 2 US is open until 6. We will have park to park passes as well...

We go the same weekend except Saturday and Sunday. So we are hoping for the same.

September 5th and 6th is Rock the Universe and Universal Studios Florida (and Nights of Joy at the Magic Kingdom). They are 2 night Christian Music Festivals. Crowds will be a little bit heavier that weekend compared to a "Normal" September weekend, especially IOA on Saturday. That being said, with Express Pass it shouldn't be a problem.

If you haven't purchased ticketed all ready. Universal offers a fabulous deal on Theme Park + Concert Tickets. They offer the "rock your weekend package" which includes park to park tickets for Friday, Saturday and Sunday (So You'll need to be sure about your date) + Tickets to Universal Studios for the Concerts for $161. https://www.universalorlando.com/Events/Rock-The-Universe/RTU14-Individual-Ticket.aspx The regular price for 2 days park to park is $175.

Even if you aren't interested in the concerts, you could just use the 3 day tickets. If you wanted extra time in the in the Studios, the rides are open during the concerts. Although your Onsite Express Pass wouldn't be valid. If you weren't interested in the concerts, I'd go to IOA on Saturday evening until closing then hop back to the Studios. The crowds for the rides will get lighter as the evening progresses and the headliners take the stage. Late night Friday during the headliners could be a great time to visit Diagon Alley (it they keep it open).

I will warn you most of the concert crowd is teenagers that can get a little rowdy. That being said, I did it in 2006 and I'd do it again if I was vacationing at that time.
