We've booked with Ivan for Costa Maya, we also have a box of stuff (I am going to ship it to the ship before the trip) for the kids, recorders and glue sticks and whatnot...we are going to buy more school supplies when the back to school sales kick in in August.

Ivan sent me an email yesterday and said he would even stop after the tour at the local school so we can drop off the supplies - if everyone on the tour is Ok with stopping. Since I know other people on the thread were interested I just sent him an email asking the max number of people per tour so we can go together. He told me he has space for me at the 8:30 am (that sounds soooo early though). I might ask DH to stay behind with the kids...What time did you book? Our stop in on 9/19, right? That's my birthday!!

I booked with Ivan too. He said "8:30 (ship time)" as well, although Im not sure how thats going to work if the ship is only porting at 8:30. Im good with the school stop. :)

Where is the 8:30 excursion going? We are still looking for something to do.

Got our pirate costumes yesterday pirate: Begining to get sooooo excited.

Did you get a full costume? Where did you find yours? We really want to dress up for the Pirate dinner and party. DD has a nice costume. Although she is a girl, she wanted a pirate themed birthday party and the kids all dressed as pirates. I plan to spend the day on the interent trying to find me something. So far, I haven't found anything but the little cheap halloween type costumes. I thought about having one made for me, but all of the estimates I have received have been a little pricey for something I will wear for about 5 hours. The lady who normally makes DD's Halloween costumes for me keeps pointing out that I have twice as much for some of her costumes, but just have a harder time spending that much money on something like this for myself.

The 8:30 tour is at Costa Maya and is a ruins tour. You can check it out the details at chacchobenruins.com.

WOOOOHHHOOOOO! PAID OFF MY CRUISE YESTERDAY! OH YEAH! My goodness that feels good! I have been so busy with school :teacher: that I haven't had a chance to look at any excursions for the cruise yet. But I will try to this weekend. Can anyone post any link for me? Pretty please? :hippie: I think I have some of them, But I need a little help. Thanks in advance!

Yes we got full costumes Im a pirate wench and DH is a pirate
We ordered them from a company in London
We only got cheap ones as we didnt really want to spend that much money on them. I dont think they will stand up to lasting more than a few trips but as it took a little gentle nudging for DH to agree to this then its a good tester.

I think I found one, but I haven't ordered yet. With tax and shipping, it is $104.00. Should I be able to find an adult costume for less than this. It is the least expensive one that I have found that doesn't look like the little kids costumes and that covers everything. I'm not really into the sexy pirate look. I have found many of those.

Alright! I still have $1683. to go! It's going to be painful to pay it all at once but I am definitely waiting until the last day July 3rd and foregoing the privilege of making advanced ressies. I only plan to do Palo for dinner and maybe brunch.

For excursion, I am only doing Chacchoben ruins hopefully.

Hey Guys I'm out of the loop again, I have been busy with ball again.......
My ten year old ds was asked to play in the 10 yr.old all-stars so we are having practices with that on top of his regular team and he starts tournaments next weekend... CRAZY!!!!!

Anyway.. We dressed up for the pirates last year and it was great. We found dd 7 and ds 6 pirate costumes on web-sites. I don't remember the name but there is a ton. And for me I just went to a halloween costume place closer to the cruse time. For dh He wore a t-shirt that had a skull on it from target and they give everyone eye patches and also bandannas at dinner. I think the pictures of us with chip and dale dressed in pirate stuff from shutters is my favorite family picture we took.

Amy,
If you are still interested on donating school supplies in Costa Maya, read the last few posts. We are planning to do the ruins tour with Ivan's company and he would stop after the tour at the local school. I think the link is Chacchobenruins.com

I think I would be very interested in doing this. I think stopping by the school and donating the supplies would be such a rewarding thing for my DD and I. I just have a few questions:

1. How long does this excursion last?

2. I understand that it's not through Disney, so how do we make arrangements for it?

3. Would all of us from the Magic be in the same tour group? I would not want to do this and end up in a group which had no one else from the Magic in it. I would just be more comfortable with fellow cruisers.

4. I am assuming that the tour bus can not take us all the way to the ruins. How far is the walk? Is it doable for my DD (8)? Is it a rough hike?

5. How many supplies do people usually bring? I am just thinking that if each person brought very much, it would be hard to get them from the ship to the tour bus, etc?

6. Does the school know that we will be coming?

I love the idea of just going directly through Disney for the excursions, but they are just too expensive. I am going to do a little more research and book my own. SOOOOOOOOO..... If anyone can send or post a link to this famous Ivan's site for me I would be so happy. Thanks!

Yes I do want to do this. Thanks for the web site. I have pulled up and printed a couple of maps of this area. We are not big on doing the tours we like to rent a car and go ourself but I think we might look into this tour. My dh likes to navigate and find his way around places. Which honestly works out very well. But thanks for remembering that I wanted to do that.

I am such a bonehead! I already had that link in my favorites. I really need to look through those! :p I can't wait for Amanda to report back on how the first DDip was!

The price for this tour is $43USD per person for adults and $40USD per person for children under 12 years old. It includes round transportation, travel insurance, entrance fees, local native guide, bottled water at the beginning of the tour and beer or soda at the end. It is completed in 3.5 to 4 hours.

The website has information on how to find their pickup location in Majahual. There's also a map for further reference. You have to take a 5 min cab ride to a restaurant and they will pick you up there.

You don't need to alert the school, they get excited on "cruise days" b/c they expect some tourists to drop by with donations.

Thanks for answering most of my questions. This sounds like fun. DD would love going to the school, especially if she actually got to go into one of the classrooms where the children are.
