Hi all. :woohoo: Beth on your Pirate. :cheer2: I almost got one, one day when I was posting. I didn't even look at the count and I was 1 away. Don't really care either. It's fun just watching the chase.

For Thanksgiving I will be going to my DD's house. She does Thanksgiving and Christmas morning. Got to be there for the Grandson, opening presents. Christmas Eve we have the family over for dinner and presents.

Time for me to head out and get busy. DrHug went to work today so I am on my own.
The tile is all down, the base boards back in place and painting done except for a few spots that need touch up. Today I have to shampoo the second half of a bedroom so we can get a bed put in there of my DB to sleep in while he is here for Thanksgiving. He is the one who lost his wife last month. I am SO happy he is coming. He works retail, so has to work Friday and lives 4 hours away. I talked him in to coming Wed and having dinner with us Thursday by promising to throw him out around 6 pm so he can be home by 10ish.

After shampooing I have to go to the laundromat and wash all the rugs and tablecloths. Then pick up all the papers and trash from our tile project. And a quick stop at the store for more trashbags and paper towels.

I already have one of the turkeys in the brine this morning. I will cook him, the apple pies and the hams tomorrow. I also make the mashed potatoes on Wed, reheat in crockpots Thursday and they are just like "new". This saves me so much stress on Thanksgiving because I have to make 20 pounds of potatoes. :scared1: I think the final count for this year is 43.

Lots to do, I may or may not get a chance to get back on today. Have a great day everyone.

I am so glad your DB is joining you on Thursday. My DB says he is coming but I'm not holding my breath. He is 5-6 hours away. He will be joining us on the cruise!

I am so impressed with all your preparations. I need to thaw my turkey. I've never made one so I am going to have to look up the "brine" thing. What do you put something that big in?

I am supposed to be leaving for the cabine this afternoon. I am sure it will be tomorrow at noon at the rate I am going.

If all else fails, I have reservations for Thursday that I haven't cancelled yet.:lmao:

Good luck with all of your cooking!

I put mine in one of those large insulated water/beverage coolers that we use for camping. A 22 lb bird will slip right into it. The brine I use is 1 cup salt, 1 cup brown sugar disoved in 2 gallons of water. Throw in 2 oranges quartered, 2 lemons quartered, 2 sprigs of rosemary and 6 sprigs of thyme. I put ice on top to keep it cold and leave it sitting in the cool garage. Soak it for 24 hours and your bird will be tasty and juicy! Yummer! I cannot wait. I may sample just a bit tomorrow when I cook the first one. :rolleyes1 After it is cooked I will carve it up and pack it tightly in foil, the hams also. Then I will warm them all in my big roasing pan Thursday while the second turkey cooks and the potatoes warm in the crocks. :thumbsup2 Three day process to pull this off, but everyone LOVES it.

Oh and I'd get that bird thawing now. It takes a few days. Mine have been thawing since Friday and it was still frozen in the middle (21 lbs). Didn't matter because I am brining it today, but if I was cooking it today I'd be on the phone with the turkey folks asking what do I do now????

Thanks for the brining info. I think I will just use the reservations. Now what will I do with the turkey?:confused3

Good morning!
I know it is getting close because the kids have started dreaming about the cruise! I dreamed my husband forget to make it to the port and we all got on the wrong ship. What a nightmare! :scared1:

Yikes!!!
Now that IS a nightmare :scared1:

I have yet to dream about the cruise :sad2: However... with the nightmares everyone has been having.. I think I'm better off not dreaming about it :confused3

Well I've given up trying to catch up on every post, but it looks like folks are still getting their docs!

I don't know if I'll get mine or not. I Emailed my TA last week to tell her that my DSis has a new address. She Emailed back that the docs will come straight from DCL, and that she had put in a message to them about it. I've never heard of docs being sent straight to the cruiser when they book through a TA. Oh well, as long as we do the online forms we are okay.

I've been incredibly busy at work this past week. But hopefully I'll be out of here at noon tomorrow so we can get to DLRP in time to spend a few hours in the parks.

Have a Super Great Trip!!!
I actually thought you left already :rolleyes1 until I saw the update..

Ok so Today, I was to be on the Call In list, call in, if busy, come it, if not, stay home.. but one of my Assistant Manager's called yesterday and asked for me to switch days.. She said the shipment was coming a day early this week because of the Holidsay.. I said fine.. I was told I would work 11 - 4 and be on call for tomorrow instead.. Ok, no problem.. I had no plans anyway..

I go into work.. The shipment was real small I guess because my Manager had all the boxes off the truck and it took me an hour to open the boxes and fill the store and shelves.. :confused3 This normally takes 4 hours total..

Well my Assistant Manager says.. Since we are slow, do you want to go home? I said now? She said yea. I said I've been here an hour.. She said well the Mall seems to be empty so we don't really need 3 people here..

Now, All I kept thinking was, you had 3 people there who could unload the boxes like I did.. Why didn't you call me and say.. Oh, shipment was smaller then expected.. And the store is slow.. You don't have to come in..

If it's still frozen, then you should "brine" it. Leave it in the bag, and put it in ice water. Make sure that it's under the water at all times, and that there's always some ice in it. A 20 pound bird should defrost in about 8 hours like this. I've done that in the past.

I always brine my birds too. Last year I did one in a pineapple based brine... that was a big hit.

Wendy, in case I don't get another chance, I hope you and Jasmine have a GREAT trip!!

Angie, I am in awe. :worship:

Got everything (I think!)

That sounds really good!

Thanks for all the well wishes! I checked the weather, and there's no rain in the forecast. Cold I don't mind, but rain isn't so fun. I've got everything ready for tomorrow, and will load up the car before work. And I've checked my route and figured out where to fill up before I cross the border into France. (If I buy gas in France, I'll need to pay full price. :scared1: )

I'm planning on leaving work before noon. I don't think that'll be a problem. I've been working long hours to prepare a briefing for the Asst Secretary General to give to the NATO Atlantic Council. But the briefing is tomorrow at 10:15, and then I'll be free, free, free!

Tonight we're just waiting for Jake to be picked up by his doggie hotel. He'll have a blast there, he always does. The dogs' rooms are bigger than a cruise cabin, and they have TVs! But of course his favorite part is running around outside with the other dogs. I'm sure he'll see some of his friends there since lots of folks are taking off for the holiday.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone. Eat lots of turkey and mashed potatoes for us!!

Oh does anyone need any Disneyland Paris pins??? Send me an email if you do...wendybirch@yahoo.com.

Wendy

Wendy and Jasmine, have fun. Jake too. Jake can schmooz with the other doggies for a few days.
