06/08/08 Magic And Mickey To Mexico!!!

I spent some time on regular DCL boards. While reading, I found a thread about the teen club (The Stack). I guess I found out there is some behavior that goes on in the club that I didn't like. I'm taking it with a grain of salt though and not getting too bent out of shape (or at least trying not to, I'm probably more overprotective than I should be). What I'm going to take away from it is that I need to talk to my son about what I've read. I planned to have a talk with him about remembering what we've taught him, etc., but now can just add a little more to that. Being we haven't cruised with him as a teen, I don't know how much time he'll spend in there anyway, so I'm not getting worried about it. It sounds like unwanted behaviors increased in The Stack as the night wore on.

For those of you who have cruised DCL before with older kids (teens), how late did you let your kids stay out? My oldest son was 11 on last cruise and we went and got him at 11:00 each night, which was too early for him, ha, but we thought it was reasonable! :rotfl: He never stayed up that late at home.

Again, I'm targeting the cruisers with teens. Do you have a family rule about your kids eating supper with you? When we cruised the 3 night, our kids (7 and 11 at the time) went with us to supper the first night and were so anxious to get to the kids clubs they were miserable! Being we were on such a short cruise, we didn't make them come the next two nights. We did have a lot of family time before the cruise being we were at WDW, so we figured it was o.k. to have less on the cruise being it was so short. At home, we eat supper together each night. I'm kind of torn as to what options to give them for suppers, being we're doing the 7 night. We have late seating. I'm guessing we'll try to sleep late in the mornings. Just hang out together before lunch and I know we'll eat lunch together each day and they'll go with us on excursions. Just curious to hear about your experiences if anyone is willing to share. Let's please remember to be nonjudgemental. That thread on The Stack got pretty harsh sometimes. I think this thread has been really fun and I look forward to meeting you all and don't want to start anything, I'm just looking for your experiences to help guide me. Also, I think I'm starting to stress about everything...:scared1:

One of the nice things about a group - is that there always seems to be someone around paying attention to what our kids are doing. We've let Lauren stay out late - up to 1am - especially when it was PJ night at the kids club - picture dad waiting up for his pre-teen daughter to come home....:confused3

We'll set limits and expect that they are obeyed - if they are not - then they will deal with the consequences....

We have late seating - and one expectation is that they are to join us for dinner. It's never been an issue as my daughter loves having escargot.... and likes to eat good food. Even on the nights that we have Palo - we have let the girls have in room dining in our suite - and they have had a blast.

Virgil, remember the night we had dinner at Palo and all the kids still ate in the dining room? Poor Sam & Irene (our childless friends) were left to "babysit"....but according to Jared, they had a blast.

Thanks for teen advice!

I don't want to give away all my fish extender gifts, but wanted you guys to know what one of the gifts is so you don't make them yourselves. I found bright green paper and cut out Mickey head die cuts on my wishblade machine today (width of about 5 inches, so they are a pretty good size). I will use disney font and put "DIS" on them with our screen names under that. If someone doesn't want their screen name on theirs, just let me know. I haven't put the text on yet. I'll glue them to magnets and you'll have a decoration for your door.

SftnSlky, I noticed your DD and her BF are close to my daughter's age, she just turned 12. She will be glad to know that she can meet a couple of girls her age at the sailaway. ....That is when we tell her and her brother on June 6th that we are going on a cruise :cool1:

We're planning on going to the port that day too. We went in 2005 and it was a lot of fun. I don't think they are doing all the festivities that they did then but since it's so close to our cruise, it will be exciting. We won't be there in the morning but will be there in the afternoon to send the Magic off.

I don't think I could stand living close enough to go see it, and not get onboard. That would just kill me!

Oh very cool...they will love that. All our kids will know on June 8th :lmao: After we check out of our hotel [at disneyland] thier uncle will say 'oh before we head home, can we stop at the beach real quick and see the waves'. Then as we can see the cruise ships he will say 'oh how neat, i've never seen a ship that size up close before' and then we will ask him if he wants us to drive closer. 'then as we pull into the parking lot, and unload the luggage is when all of them will know   Can any of you believe it is almost one month away..actually for us it is 29 days..since we are doing DL for four days before the cruise. gosh so much to do so little time. :rotfl2: Have a great night all.

:woohoo: That's awesome... my Jennah will actually turn 12 in July so sounds like the 4 of them should have a lot of fun :dance3: and hopefully they will allow my Macy to join them at times. :goodvibes

I am sure Estrella would love to meet her. We will C U at the sail away party.

Oh, Rebecca...that's going to be so much fun!! I hope you catch it all on film!

I will be DYING the night before the cruise...staying at the port...I'll want to sleep AT the port just to see the ship come in. I love coming in to port in the dark and then seeing everything light up slowly.....

I have to quit thinking/dreaming about it or I'll drive myself crazy.

Hi all,

I actually wrote awhile back. My name is Jennifer 42, DH Craig 43, DS 5 1/2, DS 2 1/2. We are from Phoenix. I haven't posted much as we have been quite busy getting ready and wrapping up quarter close at work. We would love to be added to the list and plan to meet after the drill.
Today made it all real when our cabin assignment was finally post on the web-site!! We were GTY 10 and got a 9, so we have a view, (2506)!
This will be the first cruise for both DS. It would be great for him to have a few friends for the Oceaneers Club. DH & I have cruised before on DCL & NCL.
We are getting an early start as we are heading over to DL on June 2 to "set the mood". Anybody doing a pre-trip to DL and want to meet up for some rides..let me know.

Getting super excited~!!!!!:dance3:

Attention Please!! :) :)

We need everyone who is wanting to participate in the Fish Extender gift exchange to PLEASE add their room number to the list of cruisers.

If you don't want to...or can't...participate....that's fine...not everyone can, and we all understand.

Thanks:thumbsup2

Well... count us in! We just booked today - YAY!!

We are Dagny, Jeff, Jordyn (DD17, actually turning 17 on the boat) and Zachary (DS8). Jeff and I will be celebrating our 20th Wedding Anniversary while on board as well. Woot!

I am so excited and yet have so much to plan last minute!!

We are in Stateroom 2605 at the moment. I am hoping we can pay for an upgrade at the port (wishful thinking I am sure).

If anyone has any recommendations about where to stay the night before, I would be all ears. While I am very familiar with Orlando, I am a lost puppy on the West Coast.

Add us to the FE list if you can, I think my DS would really get into it!!!
