Friday, April 22, 3 of us (adults) took the walking tour UnDISCOVERed Future World. (Which was great!
)
The tour ends in China, and tour attendees get 20% off at 9 Dragons. We were all hungry, so sounded like a great solution. (Food, chairs and A/C.)
We were walk ups, sometime between 1 - 1:30, and had no problem being seated without ADRs. (And this was Good Friday.)
The service was very good.
I remember their Chai Ice Tea as a piece of heaven.
I, and our friend, ordered that. DH ordered the Jasmine ice tea.
The drinks were served in goblets filled to the top with ice. So there really was not much ice tea in the goblet. After the two of us gulped ours down we found out there were no refills (without being charged another $3 a glass
). That I did not recall unfortunately. But it has been awhile since we have eaten at 9D.
And I was disappointed, as the tea did not taste as good as I had before. It was good. But overpowering with a clove taste. (Which I like. But it was better before.) Although that shows they must brew their own.
I need to watch my carb intake, so I did not want to order a dish with rice. Instead I ordered 2 appys -- Pot Stickers and Shrimp and Chicken Egg Rolls. (Yes, has carbs. But I am selective on which carb I rather have.
)
Friend ordered Canton Pepper Beef Lunch Box Set. She really wanted to try the sesame bread that comes with it.
DH ordered General Tso's Chicken, which is not on the menu. But the server had named that dish and another which was available in addition to the menu.
Friend and DH really liked their meals and were very happy.
Me, I was "okay" with mine. We have eaten there many times and this was the most disappointing meal. Although that is not to say it was bad.
The tea was not as good as before, and no refills. (Which is fine as I drank water from there on. $3 for a small glass of ice tea is too pricey, even at theme park prices.)
The pot stickers I ordered because I really like the ones served outside at their counter service. And these tasted in the same in 9D as outside.
I expected better in the sit down than the counter service.
I ordered egg rolls so I would have at least some veggie. Had none...
The egg roll was a meat lovers egg roll. So many would have liked it.
There were two egg rolls stuffed with meat, Each had a THIN strip of a yellow and red pepper. (Neither of which I like, so pulled them out anyway.)
And they were "okay".
So ended up not being such a good meal choice for me afterall.
Live and learn.
With the Future World tour, attendees also get VIP viewing by Italy for Illuminations.
We all returned later for that.
I made sure to have a veggie and decent meal before returning (after that lunch). DH and friend went to the walk up pizza window in the Italy pavilion. (At my urging. They were my guinea pigs.
)
Our friend's heritage is Italian, and she has eaten in Italy. Although she said she had not eaten from that region.
The window line was somewhat long, but not bad considering it was a holiday weekend.
We did have to wait for pizza to be ready. But once it was, they sold the slices very fast and the line was quick.
DH and friend each had cheese pizza slice and bottled water. DH also ordered a cannoli.
Both said the pizza was a nice size serving. However neither was impressed. They said they had better; they had worse. Friend even said she thought the crust tasted metallic. DH said he did not taste that at all. DH said the sauce was good. But said Flippers Pizza was better.
The cannoli DH was not impressed with at all. He said Publix serves a better one. (Which is sad alone that a local grocery store has a better cannoli than an authentic Italian restaurant.)
They both thought the price was reasonable. But I do not think either would go out of their way to try that pizza again.
I was also expecting a thin crust pizza from what I had read here. Their slices were just a regular thickness of crust.
Now for last night -- DH and I were first timers at Garden Grove, in the Swan. We had a $25 restaurant.com certificate.
I did not realize GG had characters at dinner also. Pluto and Goofy were there and the interaction was very good.
We arrived not long after opening. So at that time there was not many there and I think Pluto was dying for interaction!
The server was very attentive, friendly and helpful.
The food was VERY good. Definitely a step up from a usual buffet. LOTS of dessert selections to choose from. Even with the $25 off, with tax and tip we were at $60.
Once DH realized that, he went back up to the dessert section!
The big downside we found AFTER the meal is this restaurant does not validate parking!
We parked outside for roughly an hour and were going to have to pay another $12 on top of the $60.

However, if anyone recalls a few weeks ago we ate at Kimonos. When we left the parking area that night, no one was at the park ticket booth, the machine was not working, and the gate was up.
I had that parking validation ticket on me.
And interesting that we ate at Kimonos in April. The ticket from that night reads February 13. The validating restaurants must get a stack of tickets and just use them, regardless of date.
However, the same situation was last night as what we experienced before. So the ticket validation was not an issue anyway for us.
But I wanted to be sure to mention this to anyone driving a vehicle and eating at Garden Grove. Know there most likely will be a $12 charge on top of the meal cost! And that is what is hard to choke down!
DH liked the meal. But he said once was fine. The parking did not sit well with him, and he thought the cost was too high for what we got. Yes, good food. But it was a buffet. Although one of the better I have had. No complaints at all on food, service, characters, etc. Very enjoyable overall. Better than LLT, which has no characters now that I am aware.
As DH noted though, Kimonos could actually cost less to eat there, and they validate parking.
