03/01/2008 Eastern!!

Rani, I wish I had an answer for you but I'm in the same boat as you right now.

Anyone with info? :confused3

Rani and Needacruz:

St. Thomas:
we love st. john but it requires a taxi to a ferry and I just get too stressed out about missing the boat. DH and I have been there 3 times (not on cruises) and it is beautiful. DCL does have an excursion that we took and liked.
St. Thomas has Magen's bay- a really pretty beach that you can grab a cab to. We plan to do this. We are going to go early because it can get crowded.
Coral world is a cute aquarium and there is Coki beach nearby.

St. Martin: We plan to stay on the ship (our favorite destination!)

Shopping is good on both islands.

Ideas for St Martin & St Thomas

On St Martin, we are going to take a cab to Le Gallion Beach. We have 3 small kids and from what I read Le Gallion has a nice beach with very shallow water for the first 30 feet or so. We also packed a lightweight duffle bag with all the beach stuff - Life jackets, floaties, sunscreen, towels(for the kids) blow up rafts, buckets and sand toys. I think we may even have room for a small collapsible cooler that we can fill with adult beverages.. I was reading that their is a horse stable very close to that beach that you can ride horses on a section of the beach (which my wife would love to do.)

On St Thomas we are heading to Magens Bay. We went to Coki last time but we want to see Magens Bay this time. We may go see Blue Beards castle while we are there. The time on this island will go quick so we will see what happens!

Hi everyone-

My packing has been pretty frozen the last couple of days and I'll be making a Target run today for last minute stuff. I'm sure it'll be a couple hundred $ too.

Has anyone done the Lotterie Farm excursion in St. Maarten? Is there a way to get there on your own? My DD, the nature buff, wants to do this excursion desperately. As some of you know, I broke my foot two weeks ago. I'm not sure how long the walking part of the tour is and if I can do it. I'm back to the dr tomorrow and while I know I won't be wearing my new Steve Madden peeky toes to formal night, I'm hoping to be able to do some walking. If not, can we taxi through the area and walk around a little, see the scenery?? Any ideas?

atinkerbellmom--hi, I'm Karen. Thanks for the input on the bedspreads. I always thought that if you ask for a new bedspread, it was freshly laundered. I am a little compulsive about cleanliness and that can make travel stressful for me. My wipes are packed, we'll ask for the bedspread to go and for a clean blanket. I usually bring bleach too to rinse out the tub, but will have to do without.

I look forward to meeting you--and other DISers. Looks like your DS and my DD are the same age. She's planning lots of time at Oceaneer's Lab and Ocean Quest.

See you in a few days!

.

I do the Lysol Spray......
I will be stopping at a store in Fl before we board, and buying a can.

When we first get in the room.I will spray it good LOL!!!!....the couch, bedspread, bathroom, tub, SHOWERCURTAIN, veranah, doorknobs...everything...

I know Disney does a great job of cleaning, but I always feel just a bit better knowing that it is 99.9% germ free :thumbsup2

I will buy the smallest can they have, and then just leave it, when the cruise is over...

Sorry to hear about your foot, Karen :flower3: .
Hope it dosen't give you too many fits while on the cruise:)

Too All....I am still packing, BUT...feel I am about 90% done!!!! Just need to finish a few last minute things...I'm feeling good about it..much better than I was yesterday!!

The girls have been doing a GREAT job on getting all their homework finished..Kaylee will have two test tomorrow and Emily one, their teachers have given them most all their assigments in advance..so that will be nice not to have to come home to all of that:teacher:

My NEW worry now, is if all our luggage will fit into the rental car:scared1:
I think it will work...may be a bit tight though..
For any if you flying in after us, if you happen to see a woman on foot heading towards Port Canaveral lugging a suitcase behind her...it may be me LOL!!!!!

Happy Wednesday to all :)

Johnna
Good morning!!! Sorry I haven't Pm'd you back yet..I will I promise:) Ron got a HUGE kick out of your last Pm..he was laughing so hard:rotfl2: You are Funny!!!!
We will be missing you tons this week:hug:

Rani...

Last year in St. Thomas we did Coki Beach and absolutely loved it. Our kids love to snorkel and see fish and it's a reef beach so you're able to see fish in calm waters fairly close to the shore. For some reason, I found it hard to find a beach that you could really see some fish! Plus, it's right next to the Coral World aquarium if you're interested in that. We didn't do the aquarium last yr because our kids were having so much fun at the beach, but from what I understand it's pretty good.

If anyone else knows of some beaches similar to this (good snorkeling...calmer waves, etc) in either St. Maarten or St. Thomas I'd love to know...does anyone know if you can snorkel and see fish at Magens Bay?

In St. Maarten we went to Orient beach, and there weren't any fish to see...the waves were a bit rougher (for my 4 and 6 yr old), and though it was beautiful, they were disappointed in not being able to see any fish. Saw lots of other..eh-hem...interesting sights!! LOL (It's a topless beach for those that don't know).

Merriwind,

I thought I was the only one who takes lysol!! I did this last yr and I just loved knowing I could spray around the room and make sure everything was germ free! Whenever I go to a hotel the first thing my DH or I do is strip the bed of the comforter! Then I call and ask for more pillows and extra blankets. I'm not a germaphobe...I swear! I just have read and seen to many reports about how dirty hotel rooms can actually be!! Plus, we've all just gotten over some kind of flu that literally lasts about 1-2 weeks!! I went from sinus infection to bronchitis to flu...and my kids had a 2 week fever, cough flu thing, sooooo now that we're all better, I want to take precautions and hope we stay better! Disney has always been really good at cleanliness, not just on the cruise, but in any of their parks too...I've always been so impressed by that.

Ok...I have a last minute question...my docs didn't come with the customs form...did any of you get those?? You know those long, lengthy small print forms that you have to fill out for every member of your family? If I could fill these out before getting to check in, it'd be great, but I didn't get them in my docs this year...:confused3

Off to go do MORE errands, laundry, :laundy: get my toes done, and pack pack pack...I'm waaaay behind due to everyone being sick.

Have a safe trip everyone and see you all soon!

I think Tink said that they provide the customs forms for us when we check in now....

I never use the bedspread at a hotel...I just call and ask for extra blankets. Didn't think of using Lysol -- but will now. I was so nauseous reading the bedspread thread that I had to stop -- it was hideous. I do like the plastic cups in hotels...but i brought some empty squirt bottles for the trip that I'll just toss afterwards.

Believe it or not, I just have to go through my checklist and I'm done....thank goodness! I've never prepared for a trip like this one....and horror of horrors....I have a pimple! Geez -- bad timing!:scared:

Asking for a couple of extra blankets is a good idea--thanks to those who suggested it. I was sorry that I had started that bedspread thread. I was really hoping to learn that DCL changes the spread before every trip, but I too had to stop reading the thread. Yuck! Lysol's on my list for Target today.

Getting a duffel bag too. I decided it would be more versatile than a second suitcase.

My poor Dsis just got a call from school. Her first grader is sick. At DD's school, there is something awful going around. I taught all of last week and Monday and Tuesday this week and actually had kids take handwashing breaks and doled out hand sanitizer. I had kids absent and some go home everyday! Plus some in class were snurfling, coughing and looking pretty miserable. One teacher and her son are out with Type A flu--yikes! We're taking massive doses of Vitamin C at home.

Hope everyone stays healthy. Sounds like everyone's in the home stretch for packing and cleaning. I'm trying to stay off of my foot. Later, I'll head to Target, get DD from school, off to basketball, then to bed. Then, only two more days!!!

Merriwind:
A requirement for every home we've built/bought was that it had to be close to Target. Our first was 1.5 miles away, our second was 1 mile and this house is less than half a mile -- walking! Yeah right -- you can't walk because you'll have to carry all the bags back! My DH get's really freaked out when he walks in and everyone -- i mean everyone -- knows me by first name! I actually tell the associates there when I'll be away because they worry when they don't see me for a couple days....but they put aside things that they know I'd like! I love my Target!

Tonight I have my last class to teach and then I'm done till March 12! YEA!

I'm picking up Lysol in FLA as I'm DONE shopping! Now we're finishing last dirty laundry so it's not waiting for us, last vaccumming and last dishwasher load.....wouldn't you know I forgot one dish and now have to handwash it !

oh yeah -- we're on page 123......and still trudging on......:confused3

That is hysterical! My DH is very happy that I'm not that well known at Target. I didn't get there as early as I hoped today, so I've got a couple more things to pick up tomorrow, including the lysol and the duffel bag! If anyone sees my DH taking garbage bags out of the car, you'll know why!

Just checking in before I am off to bed....I am HAPPY to report that the packing is pretty much finished, (I hope LOL!!!) I have all day tomorrow to tie up the loose ends, and we will leave after school...Want to leave early enough to stop at...Target!!!! I too am a big fan of Target, only my closest one is almost a 2 hour drive away:scared1: when I do get to go, I make up for lost time LOL!!!!

I went ahead and got a bigger rental car today :car: actually, I think it is a boat LOL!!! a 4 door Grand Marquies (sp???), it's a huge honk'in car.... watch out, the country folks are heading for the city LOL!!!!

Actually from Orlando to the port we will have a Ford Explorer..but the return trip they could only get us in the Grand Marquies.....the girls are going to love that LOL!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

So Ms Tink and all you other last minute packers..how is it going??? Hope you had a productive day of packing :thumbsup2

Okay...I'm off to bed, I will check back in, in the morning....

Brenda:)

shout out -- we're on page 23 -- there are precious few of us left at a computer -- so message away so we can reach a 125 mark and be done with this goal!

:cool1:

Okay....so I'm still not packed and I've been working late every day this week. We leave Sat. morning at 6 am and I have to work a full day on Friday. Will the packing ever get done??? :scared1:

Happy trails to all those who have left or are leaving shortly. :hippie:

They're calling for another snow storm here tomorrow...As long as my flight gets out on Sat. I really don't care...It's just making me more excited for the lovely weather we'll be having on the cruise.

Can't wait to mee everyone...wish me luck re: packing...I'll need it.
