01/02/10- Mickey's New Decade Brigade!

Hi Everyone :wave2:

Just booked this cruise as a Christmas present to my DD 18 (& to me too, I guess :rolleyes1). We are leaving the men (DH & DS 13) behind! This will be our 2nd DC on the Magic; our first was the Mex. Riv. Our family has been to Disney World just once, but that was the trip that got us hooked :thumbsup2, DD got to go to WDW last year w/school, and we've been to Disneyland almost too many times to count since 2002. We are super excited and can't wait to plan, plan, plan :woohoo:

Welcome! And how exciting that your DD will be able to enjoy the Adults Only areas!

Do you have plans to stay on property the night before? We love WDW, and even if we won't be doing the parks persay, even staying on site, and visiting DTD, is definitely enough to get me in the Disney spirit!

Thanks! She will actually be 19 by the time of the cruise and is very excited to go to Palo and we're both excited to go to CC for the first time  I know she'll love some of the adult shows at night, especially pub night !

We're coming in just one night before and staying at the Hyatt MCO, and hopping on Disney transportation to port the next morning. I was toying with the idea of going to DTD for dinner the night we come in, but I thought I'd wait and see how tired we are; although I know when it's time to go sleep we'll be just too excited :yay:

We're just starting to plan our excursions...SO different planning for only two instead of four.

Nicole, just wondering how many kids we are at on our FE list and what ages so far. There is so many neat things out right now, I want to start picking up some items. I like to get age and gender appropriate. It's getting closer. Woo Hoo. Karen.

Hi Karen! I am totally on the same page as you as I love to start early with planning my FE gift ideas, but unfortunately we don't have many families signed up yet :confused3 I know we still have a few months to go but I really hope more people decide to participate as the cruise gets closer, but not too close...I think we said we'd set a deadline of sometime in November so that gives people enough time to make/buy what they want (even though I would love to start now like you!) I am trying to convey to everyone on here that it is a really fun thing to participate in, doesn't take much time out of your cruise to deliver the gifts, and doesn't need to be expensive since thoughtful gifts are often homemade or goodies bought in bulk from discount stores like Oriental Trading, etc....

So to answer your question, we have 5 families signed up including yourself. Just so everyone knows, the screen names I have signed up are: WDW Princess 71, mmackeymouse, toverly, KC- Disney, itssarayay. Out of that we only have 3 kids (all boys, 2 age 11 and a 13 year old). I wish this list would get longer soon!

Made a down payment on this cruise while onboard the May 23rd Tortola. Fully expect to sail!!

Up for tee-shirts, magnets, FE - whatever. Didn't see a place to sign up, so this post must be the means??

Nice to see more college-age adults traveling - makes sense, given the dates!

Welcome to the meet! How was Tortola? We were really torn between Tortola (because of the Dolphin encounter) and St. Maarten, an island, my sister and I have always wanted to visit. The way the dates and prices and everything shook out, we went with St. Maarten.

Where are you from? Your family is very similar to ours. Are there any other siblings not going? I just mean similar, because for us, it is the two parents, very close in age to you, and two adult children. Only, instead of two sons, it is two daughters. My sister and I are a little bit older than your sons, 26 and 22 respectively. You don't happen to have a labradoodle, do you? :rotfl: I think you might be the first all adult family I have seen on our meets board, besides our own. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I cannot believe how much this year has flown. In a way, I am almost sad already! I almost have the post-vacation blues, and we have not even gone yet! I told my mom, I wish the year would slow down, so I could relish the planning more. We still have not decided between POFQ and Swan and Dolphin. I think it is down to those two.

Has anyone gotten any paperwork from DCL yet? A CM I spoke to back in January told me that in early August, I would be receiving some paperwork (obviously not THE paperwork) from them, and I haven't gotten yet. I am not superworried yet, but just thought I'd check.

Welcome! So glad others are joining this cruise, especially around my age. I am 23, and I am going with my 19 year old brother...parents aren't interested in cruising : ( So it will be nice to have other people in our age group!

I am very glad you are interested in joining the activities we are planning. I am in charge of organizing the FE exchange, so if you want to sign up, please visit post #91 in this thread which has the instructions on what information you need to PM me in order to sign up.

As far as the tshirts and magnets, we're still tossing ideas around and some people have volunteered for the designs, but nothing has been set in stone yet as far a signing up, so stay tuned. For now you can just sign up for the FE exchange, let me know if you have any questions!

We had not cruised with the family since 2000 - and had only been on the member cruise since then - so Castaway Cay has been the only port. I am not particularly into shopping or gambling, so the ports didn't really have anything to do with my choice - I just selected the first 7 night cruise after college ended, that wasn't Mexico. Voila, Tortorla.

Of course, you can stop by any of the cruise meets whose itineraries went there - many other chimes in as well.

I've been a disboarder for 8 years - and it is only this year I have posted ANYTHING personal. I always presume there is some identity thief waiting to pounce on a piece of personal information. We'll save the specifics of location, etc. until we see you. My brother has a golden noodle - does that count?

My sons stuck pretty close to us in May - I don't think we ran into any college age kids. They didn't mind, just observing. DS21 went to "college" night - but it was at Diversions and he hovered around the edge to see if anyone showed up. No one did. I did later meet a 19 yr-old from Notre Dame in the adult area hot tub - and some late-high-schoolers at the 3-on-3 basketball. Mostly they really liked Rockin' Bar D and Diversions for entertainment.

We're an adult family too. I'll be 22 when we set sail. My mom's in her early 50s (I don't wanna say the exact age because I think she's reading this thread :rotfl:) and my dad's in his early 60s. We'll also be sailing with his cousin and her daughter.

The only paperwork we've gotten is our stateroom number, nothing else.

Hey, no offense taken. I think maybe sometimes I am a bit TOO open; basically if some crazy invited himself onto our trip report, he could probably track me down, because I share so many details.

Awww......good boys. A kid from Notre Dame? My cousin goes there. If only I were on that cruise and a few years younger, lol.

Sorry about that! I knew you were an adult; I guess I just did not know the specifics of the rest of your sailing party!

I dunno what kind of paperwork I am supposed to be on the lookout for. The CM just said that it would have things like tux rental, dress code, etc etc. in it.

I can't remember :confused3 did we decide for sure whether we doing a magnet exchange as well? I found some nice magnets from the area we are from, and just wondered?

Oh ya, welcome to the new members. It is hard to believe summer is almost over, kids go back to school on the 27th.

Ok, clearly I need to read this link more frequently! First, I had contacted Joyce Prince about a tour until to see that WDW Princess 71 beat me to it! If I had only read here first, I would have known. Oh well!

I appreciate the information on the Navigators. I'm trying to figure out when to book Palo's and I'm hoping that information will help me with the decision. I'm looking into the FE and am trying to decide if I have the creativity to participate. I'll be sure to go back to the link and let you know if I decide I do! I want to, I'm just a bit challenged in that area!

Well, just wanted to thank those that provided the Navigator information and give WDW Princess 71 a laugh!

I'm hoping to get our plans determined soon...before back to school gets too crazy!

Melissa- I just got back from a trip to Arizona 2 days ago and in my huge stack of mail from while I was gone, there was a big packet from DCL. I haven’t gone through it yet though—did you get this packet? If not let me know and I’ll go through mine and let you know what it is and then maybe you can call DCL about it, but hopefully you are already reading through it at the moment : ) I wanted to dig right into mine but you know how it is when you get back from a trip, there never seems to be enough time to unpack, download pictures and then unfortunately go back to work!

Karen- I think we are definitely doing several magnet related activities. I think someone is going to design like an “official logo” magnet that we can all have, and then maybe we are doing the exchange of other small magnets from hometowns? I didn’t do anything magnet related on the last cruise (other than decorating my own door with my own magnets) so I don’t know much about these exchanges, but I would be interested in participating in anything so if anyone wants to organize, please do so and I’ll be down for it!

Montana Mouse- sorry about the Joyce Prince thing! Yes I booked her a few months ago since I knew she’d be popular. I agree with you about hoping to be able to use the navigators about planning dinner for Palo. It is so hard to pick the perfect night for that. On my last 4 night cruise it was so frustrating because for months pirate night had been the 3rd night, and then a few months before our cruise they started doing it the 2nd night, and then of course right before our cruise it was switched back to the 3rd night, after I’d already booked my Palo night on the presumption that it was the 2nd night. Luckily on board I was able to change it, but I went 15 mins after you could get in line for changes and with only 5 people ahead of me, I was in line for ½ an hour…they are EXTREMELY slow making Palo ressies on board. I think because people get in line and are clueless about what night they want. Needless to say I was frustrated to be spending the first free hours of my vacation in line for that when I could have been up on deck tanning, but at least I did get the right day and time after all. It is just so hard when you are a super-planner like me who likes to have everything perfectly scheduled ahead of time, and booking Palo around show times, pirate night, and under theme dinner nights is like a shot in the dark since things change so much. But at least the good news is that it seems fairly easy to get whatever time and date you want once you get on board, so even if when you go online to make your reservation if they don’t have the right day/time you want, just make it for another day and time and you’ll almost guaranteed to be able to change it on board.

Also regarding the FE exchange, please don’t think you have to be super creative for the gifts. Some people get really art and craftsy, while others make up little bags of dollar store trinkets that are just as nice. Really, I don’t think it matters what is in the bag at all, it is just the fun of coming back to the room and getting SOMETHING of a surprise in your fish extender that makes it so fun. I really think you’ll enjoy participating. If you decide to join after reading post #91 about the details, PM me your info and I’ll sign you right up!

Hi All-

Just booked this cruise and made the down payment today. We did not get to take a trip with the kids this summer and my 18 year old daughter just left to college. We decided that we needed a winter break trip and believe it or not my kids still wanted Disney. We have cruised Disney ALOT! This is our 7th or 8th Disney cruise I have lost count.

It is me:

Ruth (48)
DH (50)
DD (18)
DS (14)

We cannot wait!

Hi Ruth! Welcome to our cruise! I totally understand how your older kids still want Disney...I'm 23 and my brother is 19, and we still love our annual family vacation to WDW! Well, I'm sure you will need time to go over the last 12 pages of our thread to catch up, but I'm hoping since you are such a Disney cruise veteran your family will be interested in joining the Fish Extender exchange! I'm in charge of the list and so far we sadly don't have many people signed up but I'm hoping I can recruit more as we get closer to the cruise date! Please see post #91 in this thread if you are interested in joining, it has all the info that you'll need to PM me to sign up which I hope you and other newbies do!

Whooo hooo:banana: Southwest opened up booking flights past January 8th so I've got our return (sad to think about that already :sad1:) all done. Now all I have to do is pay off the cruise , book excursions :beach:, :Palo :yay: and wait patiently for Jan. 2nd to get here :jumping3:...not really good at the waiting part.

My kids (DD-19 & DS-13) are the same way about wanting Disney, especially DCL. My DH makes fun of us, but I for one am grateful they still love getting sprinkled with Pixiedust pixiedust:

I know what you're going thru with your DD leaving for college...we went thru that last year...it does get better IChat helped....ALOT  Hang in there...Thanksgiving break will be here before you know it :thumbsup2 and then the cruise! What a nice reward that will be after her first set of college finals :goodvibes

Thanks for the warm welcome. We love participating in the DIS BOARD cruise activities and I will definitely sign up.

On that note we have always wanted to get in on a group at Palos so we could use the private dinning room. Has anyone ever done that before and more importantly is nayone interested. Last cruise I did a ladies tea and it was a blast. This cruise is the first time we wil have a child that can join us at Palos. She is Thrilled!!!

We received two packages from Disney today. The standard "here are the things to think about and here are the dates you need to go one line and register for Spa and Palo" stuff. I guess we need to start thinking about it.

I would definitely be interested in a group thing at Palo if we could arrange it...I just don't know much about it because I think there are some issues with reserving your own Palo reservation if you are involved in a group one. I don't know that from experience, I have just heard about issues like that here on the DIS when people want to make their own Palo ressie, then also be on a big group on or even just with another couple or two, and then the other reservation gets cancelled...something about the reservation system only letting you have one reservation each? I'm not sure...if someone here has done this befoe and can advise, that would be great; otherwise I guess we could post a question on the main DCL board...

We also got the packet from DCL a week or so ago. It makes the whole trip seem even closer somehow! Like I need to get anymore excited!

We have booked an excursion on St. Thomas with High Pockets and I thought I would post here and let others know that there are 3 slots still available. It is a day sail. They provide snorkeling gear, lunch, beverages, etc. They only take up to 6 people at any time. If you want to look more closely at it, go to http://sailhighpockets.com. Tripadvisor has 28 reviews about them and they have 5 out of 5 stars. I have talked to the captain (Kathleen) and she seems very nice. She has even arranged for a taxi to pick us up at the ship and bring us back. I have really struggled trying to find just the right excursions and this one seems great. Everyone says it is a day to remember!

I might also be interested in the Palo meet idea, but am concerned about whether we could still book a dinner for my DH and I. I'll watch the thread to see if anyone gets more information on how that works. I'm also going to try to review the FE information so I can make a decision on that. I'm definitely leaning towards doing it!

Have a great holiday weekend everyone!
