ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

QOTD! (The benefits of waking up at 5:30 in the morning for no apparent reason lol)

What time is everyone landing in Orlando and what do you do for your first day?

We're flying out of DFW at 7am and change planes in ATL so we'll land around 1:30. Hoping to be checked in at AoA by 3 and maybe take a short swim if there is time. We'd like to hit DTD for Characters in Flight and a little early shopping before heading to the Contemporary to have dinner at Chef Mickey's. After dinner the plan is to wander over to the Poly beach and watch Wishes.

Our flight takes off at 9, but the airport is over two hours away, so we'll be out the door around 530 (ugh!), with a layover for lunch in Dallas and Orlando by 4. I will quickly decorate the room while the kids think I'm checking in, and they'll have their Welcome Surprise! Then dinner at Chef Mickeys, and Wishes at the Poly.

58 days! I need to hurry up and make the welcome stuff!

QOTD!
What time is everyone landing in Orlando and what do you do for your first day?

We stay overnight the night before because it is a 2 hr drive from home and we take an early flight. Leave at 7:05 and land at 10:15. We check in, then drop our bags at bell services. We grab lunch at Captain Cooks then hop on the monorail to MK. It is usually too busy and hot at that time to hit the headliners, but we like to start out with People Mover and then just walk around for a bit. Once we get the room mready text, we head back and change for dinner at Epcot.

People Mover, SpaceShip Earth, Figment then dinner at Via Napoli is the new tradition for us. Since we are staying at the Poly again, we will go back there and catch the Water Parade then head to bed. Yay! Can't wait!

Can I join in? We're 8/23 - 9/2 and I can't wait. I want to talk about it every day but no one else wants to hear it, so I kinda need to join you folks. :rotfl2:

QOTD
What time is everyone landing in Orlando and what do you do for your first day?

We're arriving at MCO at 2pm, so likely not at the hotel until after 3pm. Last year I tried to do a dinner and we barely made it, so this year I don't plan on doing anything except hanging out at the pool and perhaps if the kids are up for it, do the Chip and Dale sing along at Ft. Wilderness. Our first ADR is the following day.

Isn't it funny how each family eventually gets into their own rhythm of doing things at the World? Eating at Planet Hollywood (generally on the day before we hit the parks) has become somewhat of a tradition for us. The kids love looking at all the stuff while they eat, and I seem to order the bruschetta for my meal every time. Now we have a collection of the free keychain souvenirs that we've accumulated from each visit!

Also, I see you are from Maine, which is where I was born! :goodvibes

Funny this would be asked today. We are driving. We hope to arrive at our resort at around 9am, we were originally planning to do DHS that day because it's the park that takes us the least amount of time but since TSMM is still so crazy we've switched to doing Epcot that day.

We'll be landing at 1pm so likely won't get to the resort until after 2pm. Our plan is to get settled in and then head to DTD and spend the evening at DisneyQuest, since we're both video game/arcade game fans.

We arrive around 11:00 and hope to enjoy settling in at the resort for early afternoon have lunch and then head to DisneyQuest too! If we have time, we might head over to Contmporary or the Poly for the Electrical Water Pagaent...that is a must do for us!

QOTD Calling Everybody! -lurkers too- Check in with your days left and excitement level :dance3: or :sad2:

Ok, I am once again way behind on this thread, but as of today, we are at 51 days and our excitement level is

:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

I am so excited I can't stand it!

So, we just did online check-in. We have two reservations, so I checked-in for the room only one first. We received a number of error messages throughout the process, including when we tried to bypass entering a credit card. Eventually, I was able to skip the credit card page and complete the check-in. I then immediately received a text on my cell about receiving future room alerts. When I went back to check into my second reservation, it said I had to log back in again. After doing so, both of my reservations were now missing. I was able to refresh the page and get them to reappear, but it still won't let me check-in for the second reservation.

Oh, Disney at its finest!

58 days today. My excitement level is pretty much less than nothing right now:sad2:
I have a wisdom tooth that needs to come out that started hurting last night. I am in agony this morning and waiting until I can go pick up my antibiotics and for this round of painkillers to kick in. Pretty sure I have a fever. It's a nasty infection:sad1:

Before I started hurting last night, my parents closed on a family cottage they made an offer on! It's for all of us to use (6 kids), is on it's own island, and is 6 hours north in a BEAUTIFUL part of the province. This all happened very suddenly. My Uncle owns a cottage on the island behind it and when he saw the listing they moved fast so we wouldn't lose the chance. It's within swimming distance of the little island my Uncles place is on, and he has 4 kids. So it's will be a big family place for us all to go to for years and years. We all get along wonderfully and I am almost wishing we knew earlier so we could have planned to spend the week in August at the cottage instead. Don't get me wrong..we love Disney but we're going in December too.

In fact, I probably would cancel, but the trip in December is a surprise so my kids will just think we aren't going at all and they'd be so sad.

I hope you are feeling much better by now. I think tooth pain is the absolute worst!

How exciting about the cottage! Could you tell the kids about the December trip...maybe a Christmas in July kind of thing? :santa: But at the same time you will have the cottage for years to come - any chance for a long weekend sometime soon?

57 days for me  .

And we leave Friday for our mini-getaway to Toronto and Niagara Falls :) .

You are probably on your way by now, but have fun!

52 days here! I thought it was more than that. Getting pretty excited because most everything is lined up. We need to pick up backpacks for the girls to have autographed, new swimsuits for at least DD2 and make the decision on if we want to have food and/or water delivered to the room.

I've done some playing around with the new camera and it's pretty nice. It takes great pictures and the fact that it's waterproof, shock proof and takes pictures and HD video makes it a great choice to take to the parks. Easier to carry around than the DSLR and camcorders for sure.

The kids are distracted with family being out of town, so the anticipation isn't even building for them yet. I'm hoping that we can hit a bunch of things we didn't see before. We've hardly put a dent in Epcot. The water parks are going to be a new experience. Looking forward to RNRC as I've never been on it and Star Tours as my kids are now familiar with Star Wars and I haven't been on it since it's been redone. Pirates League should be fun and we'll get the first taste of traveling with a friend instead of just family.

Lastly, I'm just hoping that we have a fun and drama free trip. :goodvibes

How exciting to have so many new things to try this trip! I always feel we need a minimum of two days in Epcot, and in truth, I'd rather spend three or more!

lol, there is a thread over on the Theme Parks board that a mom is having that exact problem with her DS and DH.

Me.....I can't understand it either  . I always feel so blessed to go on vacation.....ANY vacation!

I saw that thread, and I was like, huh? And then I thought, if my kids reacted that way they wouldn't be seeing ANY vacation for a LONG time.

Well 60 days till Disney and 51 till Universal!:cool1:
Can't make up my mind about doing online check in as we want conecting rooms and I'm not sure which will give me a better chance. As we are staying at CBR and the last week of August I hope we have a great chance of getthing this since its such a big resort and it's the beginning of Value Season. I would like to be near the main pool but we don't mind walking and really is the longest we have to go is 10 minutes that really not a long walk. Oh well will keeping mulling it over. What do others think is it better to do online check in or just wait till we get there and do it?

How old are the members of your party? If you only have two adults and kids under 18, you will 99% get the connecting rooms. If you have three or more adults, your chances will drop. Either way, if a connecting room request was placed when you booked, that will trump any options you choose when you check-in online.

We're a friendly bunch. Glad to have you!

Well, I am happy that you will not have to suffer too long with that pesky tooth. There is nothing (except for labour and delivery) that is more painful than a toothache. They can be absolutely horrible!

And all this humidity is getting me all practiced up for Florida in August!!!

I am going to beg to differ on that one - I would seriously give birth again over dealing with a toothache or root canal. And I gave birth three times with NO drugs at all!! (yes, I am one of those crazy people :rotfl:).

And we are having the same humidity! I ran at 6 am yesterday, and it was almost cool, but 100% humidity so I was cool and hot and drenched...such a lovely combo!

I've had 6 doses of the antibiotic now and I am feeling 100% better today and appreciating not being in that much pain!!:goodvibes
My parents close on the cottage July 15th and there is a whole gang of us (most of my siblings and my parents) heading up for the long weekend at the start of August:cool1:
So we'll keep the Disney trips as planned and still get to go the cottage in August and at Thanksgiving!!:goodvibes

I think our summer trips will now be a cottage week, and we'll do Orlando or other places in the winter::yes::

37 days to go!!! It cannot come soon enough. Funny story...only my son (17) can go to theater camp and I get a phone call today that he twisted his ankle, fell, and was bleeding pretty badly- might need stitches...LONG story short, he is ok. He has a sprained ankle and had a puncture wound from falling on something, thus the blood (but didn't need stitches) and all I could think of is that he had better not broken his ankle, as I was not going to push him around in a wheelchair at Disney!!

He got a lead in the summer musical production, (of How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying)too, but his part is not dance heavy, thank god. So, I'm going to officially wrap my clumsy kid in a bubble....I would LOVE to blame it on DH, but he totally takes after me:thumbsup2

:lmao: about the wheel chair! But seriously, I am glad it is only a sprain! Congrats to him on getting the lead!! My DS15 is also a theater buff...they are doing High School Musical this summer - parts are being announced today. He also just finished a three week run of Aladdin where he played Jafar...as if we weren't submerged in Disney stuff enough already!

Stupid me while pregnant I had read you can't go to the dentist 'cause they can't do exrays and can't use the novicane etc...well I had a tooth rot out'a my head and had to have it pulled. OMG I was in Sooooo much pain and cry'n like a baby as the mean dentist berated me and attempted to save it before sending me to a specialist who just yanked the s---er outta my head. Much more pain than my labor and delivery I can assure you. (and I delivered at home sans meds!)

I'm twitching in pain just reading your story! Ouch!

Oh, Disney at its finest!
Ok, I was able to find another area of the website that has an Online Check-In link, since it was no longer displaying on the main Reservations page. After more error messages, I was finally able to check into my second (package) reservation. Interestingly, it allowed me to not enter a credit card, but it forced me to enter a PIN number for charging privileges. However, after I finished the check-in process, it showed that it was using my credit card on file for charging, even though I did not enter it. Weirdness! :rotfl:

When we went in 2010 it was dead that week/weekend. It was great although the temps were higher than expected in the mid to upper 90's all week long. I'm looking forward to crowds lower than what we had at Thanksgiving.

Just ordered our PP+ card. By the looks of things I think we'll have all of our tip money on our Disney Rewards Dollars. Need to get some of those cooling towel things too...:scratchin

I was there right before you that year, and I do remember those temps! It was up over 100 every day of our first week. Then it became nice and cool around 94 for the rest of the trip :rotfl: It was the first time we used the chilly pads and they did help.

We booked ours as a bounce back in September. It felt like forever, but now we're getting close! Can't wait for July 1st, so we can say we're going next month!

I feel you! We booked in January, but as this is a family-moon for the wedding that happened in October, it feels like forever! The kids were initially disappointed we chose 10 days in August over 5 days in May (the only two options we had besides school breaks and that wasn't happening). Now of course they are thrilled because I surprised them with a DCL cruise on those days in May and we still have August to look forward to. I almost don't want it to come because I don't want to go through Disney withdrawl!!

Funny story...the week before I had the TIA I was uncharacteristically emotional...in hindsight I think my body was really trying to tell me to slow down, but I was crying at everything and didn't know why. At one point DW just looked at me (baffled) and asked, "Are you crying because you are having Disney withdrawl?" :rotfl: I sobbed, maybe ;)

Ann and I both have an adr for 1900 Park Fare. Can't remember the date. August 23rd I think.

We were meeting on the 20th at Epcot, right? I thought you were in on that.
A time and place was never decided.

I can hopefully hit Epcot at some point on the 20th and I will be in MK on the 23rd if you guys are going there before or after Park Fare.

Just lmk times/locations!

Oh! I also added an ADR for 8/17 at 5:55 at Narcossee's. It's for our 2 year anniversary :)

Here's the story behind Narcossee's (there's always a story right?! Lol). So June 2009, we were down in WDW for a big family trip. Whenever we do these trips, we take one night to ourselves for dinner and such. We had dinner at Narcossee's and had planned early on that we were going to go to the beach at the GF to watch Wishes after dinner.

So we packed our backpack with a sheet that we brought from home to sit on and a bottle of champagne that a friend had given us. We realized we didn't have any cups so after our amazing dinner, we set out to find those like plastic looking wine glasses that they have in Italy in Epcot when you get a glass of wine to go. No luck so we settled on the Disney Parks coffee cups lol classy, I know lol.

We got to our spot and set up. Being that we are us, we started having a sand drawing competition lol. I wrote "Meg and Mike," he drew "M+M," I drew a flower. Then, they started playing Wall-E about 50 feet away from where we were. So I got distracted and started watching the movie. 15 minutes later, DH says "Ok! I think I won!" So while still watching the movie (I get easily distracted when a TV is on lol), I walked over to where he was and looked down. He wrote "Will you marry me?" in the sand. I turned around and there he was down on one knee. I'm pretty sure I yelled some obscenities lol and he asked again and I said yes! As soon as I said yes, Wishes started :). So now every time we go to WDW, we go to "Our Spot" and watch the fireworks.

We haven't been back to Narcossee's since that night so I'm really excited to go back!

Awww....what a great engagement story!! Congrats on your anniversary!

57 days to go!!!
I am officially excited again today:cool1:. I was in so much pain from that toothache most of yesterday and the day before that you could have told me I was leaving for Disney right now and I would have told you "NO!":sad2:.
But the antibiotic is working, and I get this stupid wisdom tooth out once and for all next Wednesday:).

Glad to hear you are feeling better!
