Us too!!:yay:

:lmao:I have my youngest DDs "evening" outfits all set! She doesn't even know we are going!:ssst:

We went clothes shopping for DS this past weekend and I specifically bought clothes that would kind of match DD so they would coordinate in Disney pictures! :lmao:

QOTD

So, if you've been following the debates, controversies, articles, etc. over the opening of the Main Street Bakery as a Starbucks today, what's your opinion?

Personally, I like Starbucks, so I'm excited to see something other than Nescafe offered in the parks. I also like that you can use your DDP credits or your Sbux app (the latter will apply to me this trip). And I like that they are wearing their period costumes. That said, I do think they've modernized the old fashioned bakery feeling a bit too much. I'm fine with the product change, but I kind of wish they had kept some of the old feeling.

I've been following along quietly for the past day now but haven't had time to post on this.

I don't have a sentimental attachment to the MSB so it doesn't bug me. We didn't go before but we might go now. Never hurts to know you can get a decent cup of coffee if Disney energy isn't enough for you. As for the brand labels entering the sacred grounds of WDW, doesn't Coke already sell their products there? Truthfully, Starbucks is really part of Main Street USA as it can be found pretty much everywhere you go in America, so it kind of fits with the theme.

And despite the "outrage" I'll be the line is out the door. :rotfl:

Now the question is can I bring in a couple of Bailey's minis to add to my coffee? :confused3

True, but I think Disney offering Coke products to drink is different than an entire restaurant closing down to accommodate a mega-brand corporation. To me, it would be like closing down Beaches and Cream to reopen with Ben & Jerry's logos and ice cream. None of it is bad, per se, but it starts a slippery slope. Most of us love Disney because it's an escape from the everyday, and when things that were quintessential Disney start getting invaded by non-Disney companies, it makes me pause and wonder what else may be coming. :confused3

It's actually only temporary most likely. McDonalds used to be in the parks too. They had carts where the snack carts now are and you could get fries from them. The Restaurantosaurus used to be a McDonalds and it only sold Chicken McNugget Combo Meals. Eventually the contract ran out and they weren't renewed and they were replaced with more Disney-ish things. I'm not sure how long the contract is but if it's not popular (which I think it likely will be) and it's not making money for both companies (which I think it will do) then it will be replaced with something else. It may go back to being just a Disney bakery but behind the scenes it will still sell the coffee of some company, be it Starbucks, Nescafe, Jofferys or some other brand.

I almost forgot about those "fries carts" as we called them (sometimes tongue twister versions :rotfl:)... that was a great (not so healthy) snack!!

I was under the impression that it's not a typical Starbucks, but more like a bakery that happens to sell Starbucks coffee. For example, we have a Starbucks at my school -- but it's not a Starbucks, really. It sells all of their drinks, with the SB cups, but it has all the snack food that the main cafeteria sells. SB only takes over the coffee part, if I'm not mistaken. :thumbsup2

This may be a silly question and I may have overlooked the answer somewhere, but how do I get one of the Lime Green Mickey heads? I would love to have one to put on my bag for our trip!

Exactly. It's probably my adversion to mega-corporations, particularly food related ones, but I can't stand McDonald's! :)

Although it still says Main Street Bakery, it sells Starbucks drinks and food and has Starbucks signs and logos. As of right now, the cinnamon rolls are not expected to come back, and who knows what else may not return. Again, it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I am generally a status quo type person. :thumbsup2

Here is a good write-up on the new bakery: http://www.**************.net/2013/...ouse-fit-into-magic-kingdoms-main-street-usa/.

I hear what your saying and can see why some people fear the corporate encroachment. I guess my feeling is, it's cool with me so long as we aren't seeing this on Main Street:

Totally agree. When I saw the renovation pictures for the first time, I was really glad they didn't have obnoxious Starbucks signs everywhere. As it is, I think the older brown logo is a much better version that fits with the overall theme. In the end, this will all be a distant memory in the future, and we'll probably forget that the bakery never had a Starbucks to begin with! ;)

So.. does everyone have plans for their kids to keep them busy this summer?

I thought I did. But as the end of school looms I realized there were big gaps in the summer with nothing to do. My son is a doer. Sitting around will not go over well.
We have him in 2 weeks of basketball camp (holy expensive!!). I just looked up a day camp at a local conservation area that looks promising too. He'll go see Nana and Papa for a few days here and there and we'll walk to the library for their programs, go swimming, drive in movies and such.

I do daycare and will have weeks with lots of kids for him to play with but most of my clients also use their grandparents in the summer to alleviate daycare costs. I get it.. but it's a pain. I never did contracts and I've had these families for years. It's always worked itself out but with a trip looming I was hoping to have more hours. Oh well.

I have a few busy busy weeks and a few weeks of nothing.

I get this. The little one I watch is home with his mama for the summer. She's a teacher, so no income for me for a while. His parents went to Las Vegas last week, and I kept him overnight on Thursday. That was a nice $100 bonus, but I have yet to receive payment. That's a whole other story.:rolleyes2

I HATE heat & humidity, and go to WDW 3-4 times a year but never, ever in summer.
Wow, do you fly that often or drive that often?? Thankfully, we live within driving distance, but getting out of school or work even once a year is a struggle! ;)

Never been to either. Can you try and go to both for instance one for lunch and the other for dinner or breakfast?
I have all of our ADRs set already, it would just be a clean switch out for that evening.
You could do lunch at Coral Reef and dinner at Garden Grill...? Do you see the turtles in the tanks at CR? This trip will be our first there...
Everyone is saying there are turtles there. I saw a pic of a turtle who was sitting next to someone (in the tank) while they ate lunch at the Coral Reef.
Any chance you could squeeze in a day at SeaWorld to your trip? They have a wonderful attraction, Turtle Trek, that your DD would be in awe over.
We can't afford the trip to an outside park. But great idea.
I've never eaten at either but you can see the sea turtles when you go in the building near living seas with nemo so if that's an option for you?
Also Seaworld (if you can swing it) has a great exhibit with sea turtles too.
We love chip and dale too, though we tend to see them on main street rather than booking a meal with them.
Although we can't get to Sea World we will definitely go on the Nemo ride now!! Thanks for the tip. And knowing we can still get Chip and Dale in there is a relief.
I think I'd keep the Garden Grill. There are plenty of places to observe the sea turtles in the Living Seas pavilion and she might also get to see them in the big tank at the end of the Nemo ride. My favourite animal is also sea turtles! I adore them and got to swim with them in the Caribbean on one of our cruises. One of the best experiences of my life!!!
I won't share that with DD7 just yet, she'd likely jump in the tank at Disney! My mom's already talking about next Summer and a trip to a Sea Turtle Rescue in South Carolina.

So.. does everyone have plans for their kids to keep them busy this summer?
One week of patched together child care. Summer Recreation at the school. One week with their cousins at my BIL's, then the Family Reunion Weekend with alllll of their cousins Aunts and Uncles. More Summer Recreation - I thank God for that program - Then Vacation Bible School, a one day program I still have to create with a church friend. A few cook outs with other families with kids. Finally DISNEY!! And as I have previously posted, we are not coming home.
