From your list I kept only those I've been to (at least overnight) AND have really enjoyed. Also:

London (England)
Edinburgh (Scotland)
New Orleans (Louisiana)
San Antonio (Texas)

Paris and London. York wins for being charming on a smaller scale. Bath was just beautiful.

Although it is a big tourist draw, DH and I loathed New Orleans. It was like The Picture of Dorian Gray in a way. Dorian at night, the portrait during the day.

I can't narrow t down to just one, but cities I love are:

Boston
Chicago
London
Berlin
Montreal
Toronto

There are also a few that really appeal to others that I really can't stand for more than a day or two to see "the sites" and then I feel soffocated and like I have to get out: Athens and Rome top that list.

My two favorite are Santa Fe and Prague. Both have such a sense of history and a very unique character.

I also love
Washington DC
San Antonio
Fort Worth
Memphis
San Francisco
NYC
London
Brugge, Belgium
Amsterdam
Chicago

I don't like
Houston (can't breathe the air)
Budapest (people were rude and it was depressing when we went in 1999. I could be much better now.)
Madras, India (where my mil lives. crowded and polluted plus there's not much to see if you're a tourist.)

Ooooh.......I forgot Bruges/Brugge. We based there for a week and loved it. Preferred that to basing in Brussels.

New Orleans- favorite
Dubrovnik (Croatia)
Dublin (Ireland)
Boston
Not a city Mont Tremblant (Quebec province, Canada)
Denver
Washington DC
Burlington, VT

All-time favorite:
Istanbul, Turkey

Runner-Up:
Dingle, Ireland

Other favorites:
Philadelphia, PA
Washington, DC
Chicago, IL
Vancouver, BC
Rome, Italy
Salem, MA
Burlington, VT

Cities that I like a lot that also feel somewhat uncomfortable to me:
New York City, NY
San Francisco, CA

Amsterdam, Holland
New Orleans
Eureka Springs
San Diego
Washington DC

I really liked what I saw of Philly a few years ago too. We were only there for 3 days though.

San Francisco
New York

Two totally different cities on opposite coasts, but I love them both!
