Would you cut a day to upgrade to a Deluxe?

I would not cut a day. CBR has the best pool on property for kids the age of yours. I would however switch from a pirate to a preferred room.

The monorail is nice and being able to walk to MK is great. But I like, more days, more resort theming and really love CBR.

But the pirate rooms are a hike, preferred is convenient for kids, grandparents and therefore you!

You can take midday breaks quite easily when staying at a mod. We take midday breaks every day, every.trip and the travel time on busses to a mod is fine. CBR is very centrally located. From MK the CR is great, but there are other parks at WDW, and two of them will have you bussing back and forth if you stay at the CR.

The pirate rooms are cute, but the Nemo theme in the other rooms is cute and brighter and being close to the food court and the main pool is very nice.

Either way, you will have a great trip.

For us, the length of stay is priority one. We pick how long we want our trip to be and then work it into the budget we have. Sometimes we luck out with a discount and can do deluxe for the length of time we want, or other times we stay mod or value.

I wouldn't cut the trip short just to stay at a deluxe.

I kind of work the opposite way! Many times I've adjusted the length of our trip based on what type of deals I can find.

OP, I would probably take the deal, with one caveat.

Are you talking about Contemporary tower rooms or Contemporay Garden Wing rooms. The Garden wing is still in the contemporary, but it is not in the main building. They are close to the pool and landry room, but not all that close to the monorail platform. the tower rooms are the ones located in the main building. they are super convenient to get around.

Similarly, the priate themed rooms at CB were created because they are in the building farthest from the main buildings of CB. I would say the walk around CB is further than the walk from the G Wing rooms at CR. At CR, even if the rooms are not in the main building - a plus, imo, of all rooms at CR is that you can fairly easily walk to/from CR and to from the MK bus stop. So you coudl goto dinner at any resort.

It's about a ten-fifteen minute walk, from CR to MK, but it's always a 15 minute walk no longer. If you try to tkae a bus from CB to MK at a peak time, the wait for the bus could well be half an hour or longer.

I would absolutely drop a day to upgrade. One day is not that bad at all! Staying at a Deluxe is worth cutting down a day in my opinion, but then again I am not the type who just uses the room to sleep, but who really enjoys the grounds, rooms and dining at a resort. You should absolutely switch to CR, having young kids and being on the monorail is worth losing the extra day easily. Enjoy!!

I would not cut a day, I would do a WL stay or split WL/CR, but then again I always seem to add an extra day :)

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but keep in mind that the pirate rooms at CBR are at the furthest point of the resort and CBR is a massive resort. One of the biggest, and the biggest moderate resort. With elderly parents and young children, I would book at preferred room at CBR to be near the bus stops and main building. Another concern with CBR is that it still has two double beds in the room as opposed to queen beds which all the other mods have.

Normally I would do what it takes to not cut my vacation short but if your only choices are CBR or CR, I would cut a day to stay at CR.

One day less at CR is a no brainer for me. Your kids are 5 and 3. You will spend at least 3 days at MK. The monorail is a biggie with going for naps and whatnot. Other than MK only AK really has a ton of stuff for kids that age.

EPCOT and HS are quick days with limited stuff to hold the attention of kids that age (at least from my experiences with DS and DN's).

6 Days is plenty for a 3 and 5 year old IMO.

If your kids were older I'd rather the extra day.

Interesting dilemma--
the number of days that you will be there matter--there's a lot of difference in cutting from 4 days to 3 versus 7 days to 6.

We've stayed at CR and CBR and WL.

CR--the walk is still rough at the end of a day. Take the monorail--it's the next stop. We've been standing at the castle looking down toward the entrance at closing with a huge mass of people in front of us. We were back in our room at CR in 20 minutes by monorail--we timed it. (Are the monorails still experiencing issues?)
Expensive, but on our first trip with young kids (5,6) and my parents, we chose CR just for your reasoning--we could escape quickly if needed. Seeing the castle all night long, changing colors is really special. The noise of Chef Mickey and the sway from the monorail add to the excitement, to me.
CBR--Beautiful resort; fabulous theming; pools everywhere; good transportation. Jamaica is not "pirate," but it is usually the first dropoff when returning from parks and it is right over a beautiful island and bridge from the food courts--if distance from food courts is an issue. Better food court than CR and WL. Are you doing QS or sit downs? The food courts may become an issue.
WL-absolutely beautiful resort. The boat ride is sooo relaxing especially at dusk--as good as the rides that you'll get inside the park. Good value for a deluxe. Bus dropoff is close; however, the ride to different parks can get long--you'll pick up people at GF and Poly, I think, along the way. The grandparents would probably love this resort--wood floors, big fireplace with rocking chairs, soaring heights in the lobby.

As you can see, any choice is going to be good. If your primary concern is crankiness in the kids (and grandparents), though, take the Contemporary. If everyone is fairly easygoing, take the extra day. A lot of kids (okay, mine)LIKE the adventure of the buses :sad2:

Yes upgrade. Went with the longer stay during a previous trip and this last trip we went with the shorter stay at the contemporary and it was just so much better! Location location location!

For a first trip, I'd go for the longer trip. How old are your parents? My mom is 75 and gets around with no problem. A longer stay will be more relaxing. That one day does make a difference.

I'll throw out another suggestion.....keep your CBR reservation but change it to a standard (or maybe even preferred) location and maybe the extra savings would allow you to actually add a day to the vacation. Yes, the CBR is a large resort but the walking is not prohibitive. While we have never stayed in a pirate room, I have walked over to the village where the rooms are and my walk to Old Port Royale was just 7 minutes. Not long at all.

We have stayed in both preferred and standard rooms at the CBR. My mother has been with us twice when we stayed in a standard room and she had no problems walking from our room to anywhere on the resort grounds. She'll soon be 79 years old and has requested that we stay at the CBR when she travels with us again in 2013.

In the end decide what you want to do. The kids will be happy anywhere you are. Deluxe with monorail is the best. Consider the WL too. It may work and you may get a discount at some point. The kids would love the pool and the boat ride to the MK. Everything is right there and very little walking and planning needed.:thumbsup2

Making the most of your time at WDW is priority #1, but...I don't care for CBR at all, and CR is really cool with the monorail and the ability to walk to MK. Given those variables, I'd cut a day and stay at CR.:earsboy:
