Our "worst" gift turned out to be our best. A rather well-to-do friend of mine gave us a large porcelain figurine of a wedding couple. It was from a well known maker that many people collect, but it just wasn't our style. We didn't have a gift receipt, but we knew that one of the department stores we had registered at carried this brand, so we took it there to see if we could get store credit. We had no idea what it was worth, but we figured that they would give us something for it. The store was happy to give us full credit for the item and it turns out that this figurine was so expensive that we could use the store credit to complete the entire remainder of our china and flatware patterns. When I found out how much my friend had spent and what the figurine was worth, I felt guilty in returning it. But in the end we were able to complete our registry, so I got over it.
