Wishing to be Part of "Her" World - Kendall's MAW trip to meet Ariel

You will get a Photopass free at GKTW from Disney.. They will give you the card at orientation. :thumbsup2

oh my gosh you guys are so amazing with all these tips! i need more stuff like this!

I got our "official" brochure about the wish trip to Disney - so we get three day park tickets to WDW, a park hopper to Universal (I have no idea what is there - except i think Harry Potter? not a single harry potter fan in this house so is there any other must see stuff over there? I need to research this more)
And then a park hopper to Sea World/Islands of Adventure.

So my two questions -

What should we do at Universal?

And what is Islands of Adventure?

tons more questions - I will try to post them separately so it's easier for me to see what I need to work on planning wise!

More random thoughts I need to put here to get organized - for my own planning purposes!

I would love to do a countdown calendar - someone mentioned they had a link to ideas for this? I gotta figure that out! As well as the prime time to do it!

I'd also love to do the movie theme nights! Since we are a house full of princesses, we've beaten those movies pretty much to death - but there's a few they haven't seen, plus some of the other classics i grew up on!

What else was I just thinking of....now it's gone.

I need to catch up on sleep soon! too many late nights finishing up halloween costumes for my motley crew!!!

Pinterest has a ton of Disney Countdowns that are easy and fast...Love some that use paint chips. If you need any help with this please let me know I would be happy to send you some Mickey ear cut outs in needed- I have a Cricut Machine so super fast

Movie nights would be so much fun and what a way to get excited, plus have quite restful evenings at home.

Island of Adventures is the second Universal park (It's full name is Universal Studios: Island of Adventures). It's where Harry Potter is (not in Universal Studios). They're right next to each other.

Compared to Disney, US and US:IOA are...underwhelming. My husband and I had fun, but, eh. It's not a MUST DO (and we made a whole trip there because I'm a HUGE HP nerd). I do love IOA for some stuff. They've got a whole section for Superheroes, which has a hulk themed rollercoaster, a Spidey interactive/3D type ride (dunno how to explain it. It's pretty neat) and a couple little carnival type Xmen themed rides. I think the tower drop is Dr. Doom. When we were there, Capt. America, Cyclops and some Xmen women were making appearances. =D IOA also has Seussland, which is ADORABLE, Comicbook/cartoon area (old ones, like Dudely Do Right, Popeye, Marmaduke, Betty Boop, etc), a Mythical/Fantastical section, and they have the Jurassic Park area. Of the two, IOA is by far my favorite of the two parks. US is dedicated to their movies,s o they've got Simpsons, Men in black, a beetle juice show, random hollywood stuff (they have a special effects/make up show that was pretty neat).

If you're interested, I can message you links to my FB albums of the last trip my husband and I took and you can see pics?

I don't remember if you've settled on a date yet, but the one thing we hated about US/IOA was that their queue lines are AWFUL. We went in late July, and the sun was brutal, the humidity was horrific and there were no shades in the lines, most of them were outside with no shelter. I haven't been to Disney in the summertime, but I really don't remember their lines being that un-sheltered.

That would be awesome to see any pics you can share!!! And thank you for this info! I did find their website but if course it's all "awesome!!!" And "best rides ever" and not a real life translation!
So I really appreciate your input!

We are sitting in the ER currently waiting to see if she has to be admitted for this junky lung stuff she's got going on... Wishing I had brought my laptop so I could do more planning stuff!!

So hit me with any and all info you want to! Thank you so much!

Terra

I hope she's doing ok and you didn't have to be admitted!

I messaged the album links to you, it should work, let me know if they don't. :)

Praying for Kendall!

I wanted to say something about Universal and wish trips. They treated us FAR BETTER than Disney ever did. We were greeted and taken personally to the front of all qued rides, bypassing any waits. I truly hate to say this, since I love Disney; however, they treated us MUCH better than Disney did. Other wishtrippers report the same experience. They even gathered all of the Seuss characters (this was spontaneous and impromptu) for a private meet and greet for just our family...we had SO much fun!!! They were FABULOUS!!!

I totally agree that the Universal Parks treat Make A Wish families wonderfully!!!

We did not wait at all!!!! They escort you to the front of all lines!!!

It was amazing!!! For our family I am super glad that we went to both Universal parks. Take a look at the park websites and see if you think your family would enjoy the rides and themes!!!

Praying that the lung issues are better now!!!!

Happy Planning,

Madeline

Thank you all so much for the information about Universal parks also! After looking at some of the sites it does seem like there are more than a few things that would be awesome, especially for my older two girls and my husband - so I think we will make a day to be over there!

Personally, I'm excited for Fievel's playground - i LOVED those movies when I was little!!!

Here we all are the morning of our "Princess kendall 5K Fall Fun Festival" - it was chilly, and I was worried about Kendall's ability to handle all of the cold/missing her nap/etc - but she did fabulous! I have a feeling it had a little something to do with meeting her hero there...

Ariel in her beautiful wedding gown made an appearance, and Kendall would hardly let her out of her sight! It was so precious!

Such an absolutely amazing day of feeling so loved and supported by our own neighborhood, our community. For the first few years of her life we struggled so hard to pretend like we were still just a normal family, in spite of the fact that we had very "un-normal" circumstances with kendall's health challenges. After her summer in the hospital being extremely sick - her story started to spread around our neighborhood, and they began to plan this event to celebrate her and support our family.

It was amazing!

ok i gotta get a few more pictures uploaded!

Getting ready for her big birthday tea party with Ariel!

Our MAW granters set up a visit with Princess Ariel for Kendall's birthday - she turned 5 yesterday!

(here's my blog post letter to her)

Ariel should be coming on Sunday to have a "tea party" (Kendall's favorite thing to play) with her and her sisters. she is SO excited for this, we talk about it at least 10 times a day! We were discussing it all day on Monday while she was stuck in the infusion center receiving her monthly IVIG infusion!

I need to start some serious planning!

I would love to start doing family movie nights with some of the older movies - but they are tough to find all of them on DVD!
Netflix has some of the older princess movies on, but not ones that relate to Disney rides/areas per se (I think Pocahontas and Mulan - both of which i LOVE - but i don't think there's anything that relates to these movies in MK - maybe in Epcot?)

Has anyone had luck with getting older disney movies on DVD from their library? Or where else have you found them?

Getting so very excited!
I think our first choice dates of March2-8 are what we are aiming for!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Ok lots more pictures to upload later - gotta go get kids out the door for school now!

We've checked out several old Disney movies from our library -- Peter Pan, Cinderella, Snow White, etc. -- so definitely see what yours has available.

Hi Terra! I didn't realize you were over here! That's awesome that Kendall will be getting her wish to go to Disney! Hope that all is well!

Kelly

I love the updates!!! :goodvibes

So happy that you live in a supportive community that is reaching out to Kendall and your family!!!!

Oh and that is awesome that Kendall got to spend time with Ariel!! She totally deserves it!!! :thumbsup2

For old Disney movies we bought a $20 VCR from Good Will and there supply of old Disney movies which were tons of them!! The only thing I didn't find was the Donald Duck movie The Three Caballeros. I knew they had a ride themed like this at Epcot and wanted her to see the movie before we went. No luck with finding the movie but we did LOVE the ride!!! pixiedust:

Happy Planning,

Madeline

I'm so glad I found this thread! My niece, Bailey, is 6 years old and has Aplastic Anemia and was granted her Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World march-8-16! My husband and I are going to meet my brother, nieces and SIL for part of their trip. I haven't seen my nieces in 3 years due to my brother being in the military, so I am so excited to share these precious memories with them. I'm so excited to read about Kendall's trip since it is right around the time Bailey's trip is!

Hope the New Year is treating you all well and keeping you healthy as can be.
Hope the trip planning is also coming along
