Okay, this isn’t normally my kind of book, but it seems everyone is talking about this book. TV talk shows, news outlets, blogs, a few of my friends and even my own mother (who has an extensive library of this kind of book). Anyway, a friend of mine who has been raving about this book loaned me book one to read as we drove from STL to Florida 7/20. Admittedly, I didn’t get into the book while my DH drove to Florida, but I did spend mornings on the balcony (with coffee) of our rented condo reading away. It starts a little slow, but my Chapter 9 I was hooked. By the time we arrived home on 7/29 I had a few chapters left. The first book ended with such a cliffhanger, I immediately purchased book 2 on my Kindle. And read it in 3 days. Book 2 was exciting. My friend, eager for me to continue (so she can have somebody to talk to this book about) dropped off Book 3 when I was almost close to finishing book 2. That was Yesterday. I literally just finished reading book 3 in one day.

Now, by no means am I suggesting these books are Shakespeare love letter (some parts I rolled my eyes at their neediness) IMO, it was a pager turner. The author has (IMO) a very immature outlook on relationships, but again, I couldn't stop reading. Her view of Christian has to be the imagination of a 16 year old, but again, I kept reading. What did you think of it?

I loved the books. Took me about 3 weeks to read all three! I think they were entertaining and agree that the writing isn't "all that". I found some parts annoying but funny too. The writer definitely seem to describe Christian as a teenage girl would, but since he was Ana's first, I can see that's why.

I think I really liked book 3 the best.

I tried reading it months ago, but I couldn't get very far. I don't know what planet we live in where "Holy crap! Oh my!" uttered every ten seconds is considered erotic. I started reading them because I was intrigued by the sudden success and very amused by the Twilight connection, but EL James actually makes Stephanie Meyer seem like a very good writer.

I only read the first one and I didn't care for it.

I thought I would like it when I read the first few chapters, but I got bored after that.

Very redundant...Christian and Anna have a fight, they "get together" in an unconventional way(that is supposed to be shocking but really isn't)...She learns a smidgen about his past...Christian and Anna have a fight, they "get together" in another unconventional way and she learns a little more about him...

I'm not a "book snob" and really couldn't care less how bad the writing is if I like a story, but the sighs and "I said" and "He said", "Then I said" got annoying.

I had to force myself to finish the book. I have book two and three on my Kindle, but I probably won't ever read them.

Just my opinion though. If you like it read it! I loved Twilight!;)

I never have been a fan of Twilight, so to me I never made that connection.

And I so agree about the "Oh my!" parts I kept saying to myself - 'Ok enough with the ''Oh my!'' crap!'. LOL :rotfl2:

Not only that, but I have a really hard time believing that as shy as Anna is supposed to be(not to mention a virgin) that she would be totally into her first time the way it happened in the book.:scared:

I thought about buying the kindle version but didn't want to spent $30 for the three parts. Found out my best friend bought the first one to read on their vacation so she'll probably let me borrow it. :)

Read all three, honestly kept thinking they'd get better! Expected more, as in believable dialogue and plot....

I've read the first two, getting the third from a friend in a couple of weeks.
(we share books) She told me that they would shock me...guess she doesn't know me very well. ;) :lmao:

Loved the first one. Not as much for the 2nd

Itty bitty spoiler:

i think in the 2nd book, that the male lead becomes--wishy washy. He's not the strong, capable, rule the roost guy that I fell for in the first book. The female finds her strength, but at the cost of his. :sad2: I like a strong male lead.

Not big on the writing style either. Too many little things that bother me.

But i'll finish them, cause it's a complusion to do so. :guilty:

I think this book is a female fantasy. Some of the guys i know that read it told me to stay away from it and most sites show females reading it only.

I dunno if this is true but it seems true...

I read the first book and half of the second book. I can forgive bad writing if the story is semi-interesting, but I just personally could not get into at all. I thought Christian Grey was a very creepy character and didn't think anything about their relationship was healthy. The subconscious and inner goddess thing got old really fast too.
I'd also hate to have a conversation with these characters... they're always whispering or murmuring the dialogue.
