Oh my. My DD4 is starting kindergarten this Sept. :sad1: How did this happen? How did she get to be so big?

I've definitely been feeling a bit sad about this. Anyone else in the same boat?

She hasn't had her testing done yet. That makes me nervous too although I have no clue why! She knows all her letters (upper and lower), counts to at least 40 (I lost track), knows her sounds, etc. I think I'm just afraid she'll be nervous.

Please tell me I'm not the only one worried about this stuff!

You're not alone. My oldest dd starts the end of August and I am dreading it. The thought of her getting on the school bus and being gone all day, breaks my heart. Of course it doesn't help that she states she is not going and I have to put up the brave front about how much fun she will have. So I can totally relate.

 It will be okay. You think that is bad, mine is starting middle school in the fall :scared1:

I have one starting kindergarten in July! (year-round schools here) Yours is the second post I've seen about K testing. What's that about? I don't remember any testing when dd10 started school.

I have a son who will be starting in the fall. They screen here, too. They'll ask the kids to pick out letters (from a piece of paper) that they know. Ask about rhyming sounds, ask them to count, write their name, etc. Our screening is August 1st.

 It will be okay. You think that is bad, mine is starting middle school in the fall :scared1:

My youngest is starting kindergarten in the fall and my oldest will start middle school. I will have no more children at home.:sad1: Or should I really be :woohoo: :woohoo:

I won't have anymore at home either. :sad1: Both kiddies will be in the same school, only for one year though. Then next year I'll be able to freak out again when my DS heads to middle school. Wow, that makes me feel sick just thinking about it. :guilty:

My only DD is starting school in August. DW is taking her to screening on Saturday. The questions is how am I not going to cry when we drop her off on her first day. The wife will probably be fine and I'll be a slobbering crybaby! :lmao:

My youngest DD is starting kindergarten in August. She is soooo ready, and can't wait to start "real" school.I am soooo excited for her. I have to wait 2 more weeks to see if she gets full day or 1/2 day.

My DS is actually home today and tomorrow (and I had a great excuse to take some vaca!) because his teacher is doing Kindergarten screening for next year. As I recall - it was identifying shapes, counting to 10 or higher, alphabet, very easy. They just want to get an idea of where your child will sit in the class. Children who went to 4 year old kindergarten (most daycares in our city offer this and children who stay at home are able to attend as well) may have a little more knowledge, but not always. It is NOTHING to worry about though - I promise!

I was SO scared about DS going to school and it took a long time before I became comfortable with my little toddler being a big boy. But I love his teacher and his school is wonderful so we're happy now.

But there are days I want to sit in my bed and cry - like last week when he decided he was too grown up to carry a Little Einsteins backpack (it's a preschool show Mom and I'm almost in FIRST GRADE!) and had to switch to a Buzz one until (God forbid!) someone looked at it and laughed. :sad1:

I remember sitting with my baby boy watching the Little Einsteins Halloween when it first came out. And now it's Magic Schoolbus and Power Rangers and something called "Endurance" that he asked me to add here because he is reading over my shoulder.

It will be okay - I promise!

Totally OT, but DS wants me to add these pirate: :scared1: pirate: :wizard: :simba: :dancer: pixiedust:

My little one will be 5 in June and starts Kindergarten end of August. I am a nervous wreck. She is the youngest it is so much harder to send her off than it was to send her sister. Kindergarten is only 1/2 day. But year after that when she goes all day 1st grade, older daughter goes to high school 9th grade. :scared1:

I'm no ready for this.

My DS is heading to K in Sept too. I am actually the person who posted earlier today about K screening, so obviously I am thinking about it a lot. He's my first, so every new milestone he hits is a new experience for me to fret over and feel like a new mom all over again. By the time DD hits these same milestones, it's like BTDT, no big deal.

Other than wondering if he is ready, my other big worry is the bus- I don't know why that scares me so much, if it is the lack of carseats (do they seatbelt? I don't know), or if it is the exposure to all the big kids with little supervision, or him finding his way to the house after being dropped off (busy street plus impulsive nature of DS), or memories of my own childhood bus rides- probably a combination of all. I could drive him, but I have to let him grow up and have these experiences, you know?

Our little boy will be going to Kindergarten this year. It makes me sad, but he will be attending the new school with me. I teach 5th grade. I can handle him going to K, but the new situation we are dealing with is that I could possibly have my own DD in my class for reading and Social Studies. :scared1: She is not sure that she will like that- and I have some doubts as well. (What would a parent teacher conference look like? Lots of jokes..Daddy is sleeping with my teacher!!):lmao:

My baby turns 5 on Sunday and starts Kindergarten in the fall :sad1: He's going to a Catholic school and thankfully about 1/3 of his current preschool class will be headed there as well, so I can at least reassure him that he'll have some already made friends when he starts. That has so far been his biggest concern.

My youngest will be in Kindergarten this fall.

Then I will have 2 in college and 2 in elementary school :thumbsup2

My DD starts kindergarten in Aug. and our screening is in July. I just can't believe she's going to school all day. It happened so fast. I got choked up when we went with her preschool class to tour the kindergarten, so I'm pretty sure I'll be a basket case when school starts.

My middle child starts in Aug, she is registered & had her screening already like PP mentioned she just listened to a story, recognized letters & num from a paper & counted. I dont think they did much else. (she can read the "at" words - I thought something like that would be on there but she said it wasn't)

I'm not nervous at all YET....though I do worry a little in the back of my mind = they use a nearby community playground for PE = take out 3 classes at a time & there are always other people on the playground @ the same time (only 3 adults out there) but nothing has ever happened -but it's still there in my mind - but its not like I can really do anything about it,

As far as the bus riding goes - my first child rode for K &1st grade but we were in another state & only the elem kids rode the bus here its ALL grades K-12. so NOWAY am I puttting my kids on there - I'm sheltering them as long as I can. And so far it's worked - #1 is 10 now....

The school we were at the first go round has a crying room for parents - they had b'fast food out & we could stay as long as we needed & could peek in the windows too....

my DD is starting K in August. They do testing the first part of August, with her, I have no worries as she has been in preschool since 6 weeks and they really teach them everything.
She is more than ready as she is 5 and will turn 6 on Halloween.....(she missed the cutoff last year.) I am sad that she is growing up though!

I won't have anymore at home either. :sad1: Both kiddies will be in the same school, only for one year though. Then next year I'll be able to freak out again when my DS heads to middle school. Wow, that makes me feel sick just thinking about it. :guilty:

Our kids must be about the same age. DS just turned 5 and is heading to Kindergarten in the fall. They did testing at his preschool. It was actual standardized testing, not a screening. Said he was right on track or a little above. He can't wait to start at "sissy's big school". They too, will only go to school together for one year then she will be off to middle school.

Time sure goes by fast

THis is my 3rd DD and last one starting K. The only thing I really worry about it this time around is that we are moving and she won't have the teachers that my other 2 had (they all were GREAT at school) and we don't know where we are moving to yet.

When my first started K my big worry was no seatbelts on the school bus. NOT that I am over that but I drive them most of the time plus they are older and I know they will sit right on the seat.
