Thank you for taking the time to answer my question, but we decided against DVC because we felt that we were going to be tied in to Disney too much. We love Disney but want the ability to go to other places and it sounds like the points are just for Disney and not worth going outside the parks. Enjoy

Well, we watched the webcast on Saturday and we are now official DVC memebers. I guess when the DW sat down and looked at everything. We are in. Our DVC guide was great and I think what sold us was the guide was a member for 15 years and has never stayed at Disney on her membership. She took the time to explain to us the other location she has gone on the points. That really did it and we purchased with in an half hour.. We picked AKV and are very happy.

We are getting ready to seriously make our first purchase through resale. We can save significant money if we buy Hilton Head. We don't have strong feelings about one resort being the only one for us and want to spend time at them all eventually. BUT that being said, we are planning to take our grandkids to AKV in July 2011 and need two studios for that trip there. AKV would not be our first choice to buy. So two questions --

1. Would we be able to book two studios at 7 months out for AKV that one time? After that, our dates will be more flexible and locations will be too.

2. Will we regret saving several thousand dollars buying at Hilton Head in the future when we really want to go to WDW - with flexible dates?

Hi all. Newb here, but considering taking the plunge. As part of my work trying to makes sense of everything, I put together a spreadsheet to compare costs. This is with looking at the cost for a purchase of 200 points. Hilton Head isn't a bad value, but not better than SS or OKW when you look at the total cost for the first 10 years.

Also remember that BLT has the longest contract that lasts until 2060! This played a HUGE part in our decision. I'll be 40 this year and want to make sure that we can pass our contracts on to DS5. Also, we wanted monorail access so that we could avoid some/all parking costs.
