May 1: the 12th Annual Yacht Hop returns to benefit Hospice Care of the Lowcountry in the Harbour Town Yacht Basin, 5:30 p.m. Sample gourmet offerings from the area’s finest chefs aboard individual yachts, plus live music from The Headliners, a silent auction, dessert and a glorious sunset. Mondays: “Where Does the Power Come From?” complimentary golf clinic and exhibition led by PGA Pro Doug Weaver at the Robert Trent Jones Course in Palmetto Dunes, every Monday at 4 p.m. Take advantage of free custom club fitting and swing evaluation every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m.-noon. May 5 through 5/29: Set in the glamorous French Riviera where the casino culture is de rigueur, master con-artist Lawrence Jameson makes a handsome living swindling unsuspecting, rich ladies. However, when rival Freddy arrives on the French coast, he challenges the status quo. The town just isn’t big enough for the both of them so they make a bet: The first one to swindle $50,000 wins. During the competition, the stakes get higher as they fall for the same woman. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels takes you on a stylish and witty thrill ride of dazzling dances, songs and comedy.

May 5, 12 & 19: Dance the night away while enjoying live music performances and great food at Music & Taste on the Harbour at Shelter Cove Harbour, an outdoor concert and dining series during the spring. Restaurants at Shelter Cove Harbour will offer specially-priced appetizers, wine, beer and cocktails. Music & Taste on the Harbour is from 6-9 p.m. each Thursday March 24-May 19, weather permitting. No coolers or outside food are allowed, and limited seating is available so you are encouraged to bring your own chairs. Free admission. May 7: Get your Derby hats on and head down to The Salty Dog Café’s Derby Party. Enjoy cookout specials, Hot Browns, Mint Juleps and bourbon specials while watching the race on the big screens. 2-7 p.m. 224 S. Sea Pines Dr. (843) 671-2233 or saltydog.com.

May 7: The Island Recreation Association introduces the Beer, Bacon & Music Festival from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at Shelter Cove Community Park. Beer, Bacon & Music is a brand new festival developed by the Island Recreation Association to benefit the Association’s Children’s Scholarship Fund to ensure that no child is denied recreational activities.

This extraordinary culinary adventure will be all the fun of a bacon themed block party mixed with a full scale festival experience. Join us as many of the area’s top restaurants, several of the area’s top bands, and hundreds of the area’s top food lovers gather to celebrate American traditions – Beer, Bacon & Music. This event will feature bacon sampling and full sized bacon cuisine, bacon confectionary delights, live music from some of the area’s top bands (who also love bacon), bacon cooking competitions, full service bars with beer, liquor, wine and bacon themed cocktails. May 14: The 20th Annual Rib Burnoff and Barbecue Fest will take place from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, 70 Honey Horn Dr., rain or shine. Last year 19 cooks were entered in both professional and amateur categories and the participation this year is expected to be just as great when professional and amateur chefs compete for the certified judges’ and popular vote. The fest will feature live music from The Portajohns, a children’s tent with face painting and more. Beer, wine, soda, hot dogs and ice cream will also be available for purchase. Advance tickets will be sold at several local businesses at a reduced price of $12. Tickets at the gate are $15. Ticket holders get 7 samples of ribs and barbecue with each ticket. May 14: Celebrate The Salty Dog’s Birthday on May 14 outside on the deck with a Lowcountry boil, live music, kid’s fun, games and Jake the Salty Dog. From 4-8 p.m. at The Salty Dog Café in South Beach Marina Village, 224 S. Sea Pines Dr., inside The Sea Pines Resort. May 21: Don’t miss The Salty Dog Preakness Party on May 21. Enjoy a Lowcountry boil, live music, kid’s fun & games and good ol’ fashioned horse racing! From 4-10 p.m. at The Salty Dog Café in South Beach Marina Village, 224 S. Sea Pines Dr., inside The Sea Pines Resort. May 26: Fire’em up and cruise in from 5-8 p.m. at the Shelter Cove Towne Centre every fourth Thursday of the month. This classic car show takes place on Shelter Cove Lane waterside overlooking Broad Creek. No costs, no reservations. There will be awards and a 50/50 raffle. This event is open to all automotive enthusiasts, locals and visitors. Plenty of shopping and dining within a one-two block walk. For more information, go to carolinadreamers.info.

On May 28-29: check out the 8th Annual Hilton Head Island Art Festival at Shelter Cove Harbour, where 150 of the finest artists and crafters will converge for a two-day juried outdoor gallery style art exhibit. Enjoy a wide variety of original artwork & affordable crafts and register to win the free Art Giveaway. May 30: The Inaugural Hilton Head Freedom 5k Run & Walk will be held on May 30, 2016 at the Shelter Cove Towne Centre on Hilton Head Island. The Freedom 5k is a great opportunity to honor those among us who have served in the Armed Forces with a fun, family friendly event.

Race day tech shirts provided for all participants and a commemorative Freedom 5K dog tag to all finishers. Parking for the event is available at the Belk store at Shelter Cove Town Center; designated zones will be marked by signage.

May 30 & 31: Hilton Head’s signature summer event, HarbourFest returns to Shelter Cove Harbour featuring live entertainment by Shannon Tanner twice a night, plus unforgettable food, arts and crafts along with Tuesday Night Fireworks beginning June 14. Family-friendly entertainer, Shannon Tanner, returns for his 28th season, performing two shows at 7 and 8:30 p.m. Cappy the Clown will be on hand as well! Monday-Friday, May 3-Sept. 2, 2016, from 6-9:3o p.m. Admission is free. Food, beverages and concessions sold separately.
