What was so great about the Year Of A Million Dreams promotion?

We were there for this promotion. DD was 6 at the time and was given a special, limited edition, pin set. They were duplicate pins. Our waitress at the Plaza gave it to her, she said she was given one set a day to hand out and chose DD because she was so sweet and well behaved. The only condition was that she needed to take the duplicate and give it to another guest. "Share the magic" kind of a thing. DD loved it and found a girl during the fireworks to give it to.

It was such an amazingly magical time to be there. I was the only one (of the four of us) who had ever been to Disney World before and the memories we made are just amazing. We have been back twice since then and can't wait to go again!

We got fastpasses in Epcot. Make the trip extra special, not because we won, because it felt like the guest was the star. It was like Disney was saying Thanks for being our guest.

We were there during Year of a Million Dreams. It was my DH, DD, DGD and myself. We won several things in our 8 day trip.

  • We checked in to POP in a standard room and was given an upgrade.
  • We were given an unlimited fastpass at Hollywood studio's as we walked in the gate.
  • And the very next day we were given unlimited fastpass at Animal Kingdom when we got off of the Safari ride.
  • We were on Space Mountain and as the ride ended and our car pulled up into the landing space, everyone in our car was given the collector Pin and landyard.

I thought that was ALOT of things in just 8 days, we LOVED it (of course):goodvibes

I love these stories!!!

I feel like these types of things shouldn't be a 'promotion'. This should be done every year....NOT TO THIS EXTENT though.

Maybe every CM could give out one perk every month (for a well-behaved child, for seeing someone throw trash in an actual trash can, for someone saying thank you to a cashier, for someone being friendly in line, etc). I feel like that may improve the behavior of some visitors. ;)

And to those who expect a perk and are mad when they don't get one...their actions are not genuine anyway. :snooty:

I just have to say that we were there for 10 days and didn't receive anything. I never expected anything and I'm happy that other people got something, but it still made me feel like a real loser. Especially when someone near us received a perk while we looked on. We have been the beneficiary of other perks - my daughter was picked to pull the sword from the stone once, but there were a lot of unhappy people when their children weren't picked. I think some of these things cause problems. Just my opinion.

We got the Dream FP at the Great Movie Ride--everyone in our car did, that was really nice.

I was very sick on that trip so DH took DS to DTD by themselves while I stayed in the room. They were sitting on a bench and had a CM start talking to them, they ended up each with a Lanyard set. DS was so excited but sad that I wasn't there to get one also, he gave me his to make me feel better and DH gave his up to DS.

Same trip we had just left our CP breakfast and heading to Splash. A vendor was setting up her ice cream cart and DS started asking for ice cream. I told him no we just ate, blah, blah, blah....vendor stopped him and asked him to name 3 characters at MK and he was rewarded with a Mickey Bar.

My family went in Jan/Feb 2009 and we won three times:
We were waiting for the Aladdin Magic Carpet ride and everyone in line got passes to stay after park closing (I think it was til midnight) and they had all the headliners open to ride.
My husband and two of the kids got YOMD Mickey Ears by Soarin'.
My family all got lanyards with pins in Innoventions.
:):):):)

I love this thread!

We were at MK in July 2007 with DD 6 and DS 10. A sweet woman CM with a white vest came up to us and began asking our kids if they had any wishes. They said yes, and so she escorted them to Cinderella's Fountain, gave each child a coin and had them close their eyes and make a wish as they threw the coin in. I was just about to squeal with the thought that... OMG... Cinderella?....Could....This....Be....?

It was like they were royalty at that moment, like others have said. The CM said, now I have something to help you remember that wish, and she walked us over to Peter Pan, right up to the front of the line, and we could feel the eyes of everyone that had been waiting so long on us.

Magic moment. I do wish that Disney World would do this again.

And yes, for a few seconds I was thinking that we'd been picked for the night in Cinderella's Castle, but it didn't matter. The magic was just as special as if we had.

In june 2007 - my hubby & daughter went off to ride the tower of terror and they came back with the dream fast passes!

also, when we are in AK, we were given a dream of riding primeval whirl as many times as we wanted without getting off...I think I made it 2 trips but the kids did at least 4 times in row. lol

I loved that promotion....

does anyone know when the current promotion will end? hoping they are onto something new by summer 2015

Limited Time Magic

In 2013, Disney announced a special celebration called Limited Time Magic. During this celebration, various “pop-up” events will be offered for short time periods. These will be announced only a short time before they start.

Isn't that over now?

I'm thinking this year is something about celebrating your Disney side. But I haven't a clue how that is manifesting itself in the parks outside of the upcoming 24 hour event.

I often hear people on here refer back to the Year of a Million Dreams promotion as one of the best ever, particularly as compared to current promotions (i.e., Limited Time Magic). That predates the time I was going to the parks regularly, so I'm not really familiar with it. What was it, and did any of you take advantage of it?

Just curious.

Late to respond, but here goes.

We went for a week during this promotion in October. On day 2 of our vacation as we were entering JII, we were given necklaces by CM's. What were they....Fast passes for all the major attractions in Epcot for each of us. We basically were allowed to go into each fast pass line once for each ride without having to run around and come back later. It was AWESOME!. 2 days later at AK, we were heading towards the safari and BOOM....a couple of CM's were in the path handing out similar ones so we got them twice during the week. I'll try to remember to come back tonight when I get home to post a pic of them.

Also during the week, my children were given free ice creams and one got a free light up toy at the night parade and fireworks.

I know the perks were limited and we we either very lucky (especially to get them twice) or maybe because the crowds were low we got a lot of Disney magic that trip. I think a similar promoting now while everyone is adjusting to the new FP+ and MB would be perceived as a positive step.

So what IS the current promotion?

Pretty much.....The parks are packed so we don't need one....:good vibes

I think it is "how will you celebrate your Disney side" or something like that. I haven't seen or heard of what you get other than the ability to spend a lot of money to go to Disney. This is not intended to be a negative comment, just pointing out the lack of any substantial benefit. We have 2 trips planned this year, maybe they'll come up with something.

Year of a Million Dreams was good to my family. Got Mickey ears...oh yeah....and won the castle.
Spectacular.

I loved the Year of Million Dreams! I received a Fast pass card at Disneyland twice. It was great to choose what time I wanted to use it. It was so long ago that I think I was given 3 or 4 fast passes for the day. They gave them to my entire party. Plus, I entered the online sweepstakes on the Disney website and received Mouseears twice and lanyards twice as well. The lanyards came with a pin. With that said- I entered the sweepstakes daily. Of course, I kept dreaming of staying in the Castle at WDW or Walt's apartment at Disneyland. I thought it was fun and I would welcome them doing it again. :thumbsup2

We went in 2007 and this was going on. Definitely still my favorite trip of all time. One it was a recession so the crowds were non-existent. Second we got picked for stuff EVERYDAY!

Examples - Fast Pass for every ride all day long, Special Seats for Festival of Lion King and DD got to be in show. Free pins (which got us into pin trading for the first time.) Fast passes just handed out left and right. We still have all the stuff as souvenirs. Seems like more but cant remember. It just made you feel SO SPECIAL!

We were at Disneyland in January of 2007. Turns out that the days after New Years are "close the parking lots" crowded because southern California kids don't go back to school right away.

My sister and 5 year niece were coming off of Buzz Lightyear and a cast member was handing out dream fastpasses (both to Disneyland and CA). My sister said that the problem was that she had 4 other people in her party who were elsewhere (the 5 year was too small and scared for most rides). The cast member told her to go to Guest services.

We did and they gave the rest of us the dream fastpasses too. I still have the lanyards with the tabs all gone hanging off a door knob here at home.

"Show your Disney side" there is a website where you can create a family decal and then have that mailed to you, upload videos or pictures of you or your family's "Disney side", and look up info for an upcoming trip. It also includes a new savings account designed to save for a Disney vacation.

My very first trip to a Disney park was during the promotion. We had no idea it was even running. We were in California Adventure land at opening and the "dream squad" jumped out behind a monsters Inc character I was waiting for a photo with and gave my Mum and I the year of a million dreams lanyards and pins. A small prize, but was pretty awesome none the less. :)
