Sooooo funny! We have brought our girls once (planning another trip with them December 2013), but we have taken lots of trips by ourselves (no kids). So many times we are asked, "Isn't Walt Disney World just for kids? What do you even do?!"

I can only hope the people that ask this are not adults. If they are, our country is in deep, deep trouble.

People not knowing the difference between Disney World and Disneyland bugs me. But, hearing that people don't know the serious difference between North and South Korea is truly frightening.

I was once sitting behind a family on the Safari at AK. The little boy made a comment about the hippos and alligators. The grandmother explained to him that they weren't real:rotfl:. She said Disney has these things called "animaltronics" that they use in place of real animals. She actually said animaltronics, not animatronics.:rotfl: I wonder what she would have said if one of those hippos or gators had actually moved or made a noise and if she thought the wandering giraffes, antelopes, and elephants were also 'animaltronics'.

Totally love this thread!! Before we went to WDW in 2011 a colleague decided to impart some of her wisdom to me to make my trip better (I'd been to WDW once before and Disneyland Paris 5 times so was ok with how it all worker!). She said to go to Walmart if I wanted buy souvenirs because there weren't any shops in Disney! To make sure I watched the fireworks because Cinderella abseiled down the castle at the end of them!!
Another friend went to Disney Paris for the first time and came back complaining that no one had told her it was a theme park! Still not sure what she was expected!
My cousin is going to Paris next month for the first time, he has said he'll be really cross if Mickey doesn't sit at their table in Cafe Mickey after they have paid so much for the the meal.
My sisters DMil was really cross when they got to 1900 Park Fare for dinner and there were other people there, she thought it was a private meal!!

Not a Disney, but I used to be a Reservationist for Delta Airlines (one of the ppl who answered the 800 number, and yes, I rarely actually made a new reservation.) and one afternoon an older lady called and the computer screen had NO info for me (they usually put at least a destination into the automated system first). When I asked how could I help her today she responded very seriously 'Does Delta fly south?'

I was on the phone with her for an entire 12 minutes (which doesn't sound long, I know) and I have no idea where she was or where she wanted to go to, other than she did NOT want to go south and west, that's why she didn't call Southwest Airlines!:faint:

As for the FP's being free, I was excited to find that out. We have a similar program at our nearby amusement park, but it costs almost an extra hundred dollars to add it onto your regular ticket price. I am a Disney rookie, but I am really trying hard to do my own research so I don't end up being quoted on one of these boards!

I went with my friend and her family. We were waiting in a line where only one side was open. After waiting about 5 minutes my friends husband says "lets go in this OTHER line there is no one in this line. He hopped the rail and promptly returned.

I have always wondered how Southwest does round trips. I see how they can get me from PA to AZ, but how would I get back? Do the keep flying south west around the world? What happens when we get to the South Pole? Eventually we have to go north again? Is northwest ok, as long as they don't go east? Or is my return trip through Eastern Airlines or Far East? Are either of those still operating? Help!

I'm sure it was the longest 12 minutes of your career!

Ha...when I was a flight attendant, we were flying on an MD-80, which has rear-mounted engines. So if you're sitting in the back, your window is blocked by the engine. A passenger asked me if the engine would be there for the whole flight. I just kind of looked at her and said, "I certainly hope so."

I bet if they visited both North and South Korea they would have no problem remembering the difference then! ;)

I remember when we were in the fast pass line for BTM, as we passed a family in the stand by line the daughter asked her dad how come there was another line that was going so much quicker then their line, he answered it was the line for people who had just ridden and liked the ride and wanted to go straight back on!! Hope the daughter wasn't disappointed when she got off the ride and wanted to go through the special line to ride again!!

Not everybody who asks the questions in this thread is "stupid". Stupidity is different from ignorance. I have two very intelligent friends who are university professors who told me in all seriousness that they had gone to Disney World, but had never been to Florida. I thought, of course, that they had meant they had gone to Disneyland, in California, since she is from S. Korea, and they both had worked as research scientists at Clorox, which is in the San Francisco area. But, asking more questions, I was able to determine that they had been to Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Not sure how to reconcile that Disney World is not in Florida; I give them the benefit of the doubt, and think they mean that they have never gone sightseeing in the rest of Florida, because the context was when I was discussing a trip we made to Sanibel.

People say funny, ignorant things to me, also. I am a family physician, and occasionally, I think I should have been keeping a list of things people have said/done in my office. The most ignorant scenario that I can recall (takes the prize for the past several years) was when I received a call from a nurse from a specialist's office in February telling me that a patient's family had returned an Apnea monitor the preceding October, and wanted to be sure the baby was OK. Well, I actually hadn't seen the child since the preceding August. So, my office contacted the family and learned that the family had moved from Indiana to Gainesville, Florida in October, and the child was being seen at Shands Hospital, which is the University hospital at the University of Florida. So, I assured her that the patient was under good, competent care. Her reply was "what is Shands hospital?". This story is incredible on so many levels, start with checking on a child with apnea issues 6 months after the fact.

:scared1: I don't even have kids yet, and I CANNOT imagine waiting 6 months to ask if my baby had an apnea problem!! Yikes!

My husband and I are planning a Disney trip for next year. The other day he did ask me to explain to him how much the fastpasses would cost. To be fair, it'll be his first trip to Disney and he's really only going for my benefit. I'm actually somewhat impressed that he's even heard of a fastpass.

Now that I've read this thread his question doesn't seem nearly as silly. :rotfl:

My in- laws came back from a trip and complained there was nothing to eat. My father in law only likes sit down restaurants but they refused to make reservations.

On our last trip, we entered AK shortly after RD. We were there to wander, not in a hurry. My ds5 was talking to cm's that had bones and other things from different animals to teach about, and one cm had a tray with animal poop comparing say, a gorilla, giraffe, ect. Obviously they had been "laqured" (for lack of a better term.) Anyway, cm and ds are chatting away when a rather pushy man comes up from behind the cm and grabs a piece off the tray and turns to walk away. Took a split second to realize what happened, but the cm turned and said "oh, wait, sir" to which he replied(with a very heavy accent) "zample!" We waived us off and he was gone. Our jaws all dropped in disbelief. Really wish I could have seen how much he enjoyed his "sample!" Still makes me laugh!
