A shuttle launch is scheduled on August 28th. We are going to be in WDW from August 27 to September 2.

Has anyone ever experienced a shuttle launch. How and where does one go about buying tickets?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure you can buy tickets. To get the close seats I think you need the help of your congressman. Otherwise you can drive to the area and follow the crowd. I did that a few years ago. You can see it from the parks also.
Take care

I went to the Kennedy Space Center website & they have a place with info about that. DH & I were thinking about going, too. We will be at WDW 8/20 thru 9/02. I'm not sure how close you can get.

I had a friend in Mission Control that got me a pass one year. Try contacting NASA and asking them. You can see it from Titusville and also Cocoa Beach on the beach real well. If you can go see it I highly recommend it. It was one of the most incredible events I have seen. It is breathtaking and so indescribable.

You can purchase different "levels" of tickets from NASA. The basic one includes seeing the launch from the Space Center Visitor's Center and the exibits there, etc. I actually think the view for free from the parks, causeways, etc is much better. The higher level tickets I think are harder to get and some are reserved for VIPS, Celebs, etc. I've had the chance to see the launch from the VIP Press site once and it was incredible (night launch) and once from the Visitor's Center and many many times from home. I worked at the last launch as "security". It was fun. Goodluck!

It's pretty visible from all over the place without a tiocket. Just drive near it and park. Probably your best bet since more often than not they don't actually launch on the first try.

I wouldn't get your hopes up that it will launch then. It seems they always change the date several times before it finally launches.

We watched from across the water in Titusville. It was awesome!!!

We've visited WDW for almost 15 years, now, and there have been perhaps four or five launches scheduled during our trips, and not once have the launches taken place. Maybe I'll see a shuttle launch sometime before I die -- maybe not!

I will be in town at that time as well and I wanted to see the rocket launch.
It was supposed to go on the 18th. Then the 20th. Now the 24th. Not sure
when it really will get to go.
I called Kennedy and they told me no special ticket was being sold for this. You can see the launch from there but they said no special viewing place.

I emailed a gentleman named Ozzie who has a launch website http://spacelaunchinfo.com/ .
He says: Space view park: Great for Shuttles, lousy for unmanned launches. Jetty Park would be good. I'll probebly be on State Route 528 with the guys from LISATS (Launch Information Service and Amateur Television System). I'm a member, but I've been trying to convince them to move to somplace that's a little easier to maneuver cars into and out of.

Hi Jill,

Yup, that's correct. LISATS would be happy to see you. Donations are accepted for the "I Was There" Launch Witness Certificate that the fellows print up on the spot. They also hook up loudspeakers to broadcast the NASA Audio Feed coming over the K4GCC Ham Radio repeater on 146.940 MHZ, so people know what's going on with the launch.
Be sure and tell 'em "Ozzie sent me". :-)

sorry this is so long,
Hope it helps
