What can I expect in mid December?

Planning to experience the Disney Christmas this year. Hoping to visit mid December, possibly the 13th-20th. What can I expect in terms of weather, crowds etc. I want to attend MVVCP, will the dates be out my May? Unfortunately I think I will have to attend this event on one of the so called "premium dates", are the crowds along Main Street really that bad. Too bad they cannot toss everyone without a wrist band for these so called "hard ticket events":cool1:

hard ticket events, they do a pretty good job of tossing everyone regardless... yes it will be premium dates... expect jacket weather

Hi,

MVMCP dates are usually announced in April with tickets going on sale around May 1.

Crowds should be manageable until around the 19th, which is the weekend before Christmas. At that point they should start to get pretty big.

Winter weather in Orlando is completely unpredictable. You could have warm days (80s) with cool mornings, or you could have mornings near freezing with afternoons in the 40s or 50. Or you could have a little of both, or something in between.

Enjoy your trip!

we are planning are first Christmas visit also Dec 13-18 very excited to see the decorations

We were there this past Dec. 13 - 22, 2008. Here is a link to our trip report. I have crowd, weather and dining details for each day we were there:

And by the way, it was not jacket weather. It was about 80 degrees everyday of our trip.

We were there in Dec. from the 18-22 and it was wonderful! I planned our days using both TGM and the UG and with using fast passes never waited longer than 15 minutes! If you start your days at rope drop it is very manageable! We attended MVMCP and loved it! We saw the special party things and walked onto most rides!:cool1: The CMs were checking all attendees to make sure they belonged and escorted out anyone who didn't. WDW is even more magical at Christmas & you will have a great time!

Thanks for sharing your trip report. It's really great. Looking forward in reading more trip reports from you.

Have a nice day. :)

I also went to WDW this past December for 4 nights - mid December. The Crowds and weather were great, but the midweek MVMCP I attended was sold out, so the crowds for the parades and fireworks were huge. The ride lines were nonexistent.

I also have a link to my trip report at the bottom of my siggie, so feel free to look at pics. The was a solo trip with DH and me. Just 4 nights, but very fun. The only reason I wouldn't go again this time of year has nothing to do with Disney. I just found it very hard to get ready for Christmas and was always "behind" during the holidays.

We went Dec. 6-13 2008. Weather was WONDERFUL. Jeans and a T-shirt every day and just wore a fleece zip-up for when it got cooler. One day there was a record high of 80 or something and just did capris and a T. Never needed gloves or a hat or anything. Only rained one morning. Beautiful sun the rest of the week.

Crowds--We were able to do every ride we wanted over the course of our trip, but I had the fastpasses planned out and a general plan of attack. Also, on the days we got there early (by 9am) we were able to knock out TONS of rides.

It was much more crowded than I expected it to be. I cannot think of a single day where it was not a hassle to get down Main St. Once in the park, the crowds were a little more dispersed, but Main St. was always a nightmare...

Didn't really run into any crowds at AK or Epcot (BUT we DID have our fastpasses...there were definitely LONGGGGG lines if you didn't have those!) DHS was extremely crowded the day we were there...no special events going on...just crowded to the point it wasn't really fun to even walk around and soak it in...

All in all, I would definitely go back at that time again. But this time around, I think we're going to try early October or May...still trying to get a feel for those two times!

Have a great time! The decorations are wonderful!:santa:

Thank you everyone for the advice. As soon as the dates are out and the tickets become available for MVVCP I will start planning, sounds like the crowds are manageable as long as you have a plan.

We visited WDW this past Dec 13th -24th and had an awesome time. The weather was great (only one cool day--of course, the day our daughter went on the pirate cruise it was only like 50 degrees out :sad2: ) but I think it may have been unseasonably warm this year. We swam nearly every day.

We thought that crowd levels were decent until the weekend before Christmas. They weren't as low as when we had visited in September, but they were not insane crowds either. The weekend prior to Christmas things started to pick up and the increase in crowds was noticable.

We also may have not been as affected by crowds because we are early risers (even on vacation) and often got out for rope drop and completed most of the attractions we wanted to do by early afternoon. We aren't commando style tourists and don't try to do "everything" when we go, so this too may affect our perception ofhow bad the crowds were.

Overall, we'd definitely go again during this time of the year. the Christmas decor was beautiful, the weather good & the crowds more than managable.

MVMCP nights are hit or miss. Some are way overbooked and some are not so crowded. Make sure its not a special night (discount tickets, DVC, etc) when you plan to go and you should be fine. I would also say if you can arrange to be availble for the party on more than 1 night, I would be at MK around 4 PM and buy tickets then. If its already sold out, you would be better off not being there. Also, if you have older kids or no kids it is easier to maneuver around then with smaller children.

Go the first week instead and you'll have the park to yourselves, AWESOME time of the year to go!
