What are your favorite Urban Legends?

All the water is reused by disney... the clean the streets with the water and then re use it etc. You do indeed have to have a tetnus shot if your HEAD goes underwater... I believe the same is true for bay lake and seven seas lagoon.

Actually, that's what you said.. dbm is right that's how urban legends get started.. people expand on what they've heard and it goes all crazy. You did mention rivers of america and jungle cruise but you also mentioned lakes people are allowed to ski/parasail in. And the statement "all the water is reused by disney" sounds like that includes kali and splash.

Splash moutain water and of course Kali and any other water ride such as that is not the reused water.. I said water in the rivers of america and Jungle cruise. And like I said it is according to a very high up cm named Corey that gave us our KTTK tour in Sept. Maybe a cast member on here can verify that if you fall into the water on jungle cruise you will have to have a tetnus shot...... I have better things to do than to start urban legends LOL!! :rotfl2:

Skylarr, please except my sincerest apologies. I did not read your post closely enough. I just skimmed through and saw th other replies. My bad. I could see the Jungle Cruise being correct...I guess. But the Rivers of America is too large for such a thing and would smell absolutely awful if this were the case. As far as the Lagoon and Bay Lake. If such a thing were the case, it wouldn't be in a place that WDW can not control closely, like JC. People do use low riding craft and parasail there. That just doesn't make much sense

Ha ha .. no hard feelings lol... I am just repeating what I heard is all lol.... maybe that really is how urban legends get started.... maybe Disney leaks this stuff out to see just what we will say and believe. Thats why there is no swimming aloud in any of the lakes around WDW.. when parasailing you never touch the water although I am sure an accident could happen or something.

I guess I do see how ALL would include Kali , Spalsh, etc.
Re-phrasing to say Some water is re-used by Disney ;)

Especially since that lake has been there longer than Disney has owned the property.

My favorite on that site was 101 things you didn't know about Disney.
The Trees are Giant Bonsai.

Hilarious.

I wonder if we tried to start a new urban legend on that how far it would go.

We should all start a really fun urban legend here. Who wants to start?:)

Here's one my alarmist neighbor told me.
Did you all know that the toilet water goes through a reclamation system and ends up in soda machines and water fountains?

I said yeah it's 100% true.
I assume it goes through the same process of going through sewage treatment then being released, then water treatment sucking it up somewhere, being treated, and then ending up in the water supply just like 1000s of communities across the United States.

She was so disappointed when she figured out someone yanked her chain. She Genuinely thought they were trying to serve her water with Pee in it.

Florida boy dies from amoeba in lake
CNN - An unidentified 12-year-old died Friday after being infected with an amoeba while swimming in a Florida lake.
The boy had meningeal encephalitis -- a combination of meningitis and encephalitis, which causes the brain to swell, according to Dr. Jaime Carrizosa, an infectious disease specialist from Florida Hospital in Orlando. Carrizosa had treated the boy. Dr. Steven Wiersma of the Florida Department of Health in Tallahassee, says the condition is very rare and has a high mortality rate.

The environmental conditions in Florida lakes -- especially in the hot summer months -- are ideal for amoebas to thrive and proliferate, Carrizosa said.

Amoebas enter the body through the nose. From there, they can travel directly to the brain and into the spinal fluid. That causes brain swelling and the increased pressure is often fatal.

Although patients are given antifungal drugs, "there is no effective treatment," Carrizosa added. "Amoebas have all the possibilities of producing some toxins so there has to be some of that occurring. It's so difficult to study particularly in a critically ill patient." Although cases are rare, Florida doctors are aware of the danger. "When we have cases of meningitis and there is any history of having been swimming in a lake, diving and going underwater, we immediately look for amoebas in the spinal fluid," Carrizosa said.

'Nuff said.....

The Legend: Walt Disney released live fireflies in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Behind the Legend: On several occasions, Walt Disney tried to liven up attractions with living creatures. For example, he released fireflies into the Pirates of the Caribbean bayou scene, he put a live owl in the Snow White's Scary Adventures haunted forest, mountain goats lived on the Matterhorn for a short time, and after a particularly intense story session for Alice in Wonderland, he briefly toyed with the idea of filling the Monorail with butterflies. The descendants of the cats that Disney brought in to promote The Aristocats can still be seen throughout the park.

I've never seen a cat at Disney... tho I assume they mean disneyLAND.. has anyone?

Probably does refer to Disneyland but there ARE cats at WDW. I heard (guess this falls in with the urban legend, LOL) that they were released there to keep control of the rodent population years ago and the ones hanging around today are descendents of those cats.

Mom and I were watching Wishes from the Poly beach in December and were the only people on the beach. When it was over we were walking back to head back in and passing the pool and saw a gorgeous seal point siamese - looked almost purebred by the coloring of it. It bolted when it saw us though, it didn't seem socialized so I would believe it's a stray and not just someone's pet they decided to let go of on property.

anyone heard the one that a park guest happens to fall in any kind of water beside a fountain or waterplay area that they are immediately given a tetnus shot and must have bloodtests taken to insure they come up with no diseases? I find this hard to believe!
I've also heard that WDW keep their music and lights on 24/7 because the cost to shut them down and re-start is more expensive than simply running them all the time.
Another one - that park officials hide things to see if the cleaning crews are doing their jobs properly. Like pennys, or dust bunnies or whatever.
I've also heard that disney landscapers keep extra trees and flowers in a special greenhouse/wharehouse incase any are damaged and need to be replaced for aesthetic reasons.

I don't know about the tetanus, but I can comment (verify) a couple of others. . .

When I did my college program there were times I'd be there way late or way early and the music and lights were always on even though there were no guests around. I had to do inventory one night so I LITERALLY spent the night in MGM. We started at park close and left at 6 in the morning and since part of our shop was outside I could hear the music running all night. The music in the store ran all night too. They keep lights on too, but I always assumed because they have crew working all night. It was odd to walk through MGM at 3 in the morning to get to another shop and have to move for trucks, LOL!

And since I worked merch, our area manager told us about some of the things they do to make sure that the night janitorial staff are doing their jobs. We only had video surveillance in one out of the 4 stores in our area and the tv, vcr and tapes were in a cabinet that was to be locked everynight so that the night staff couldn't see what/if they were recording that night. The manager told us about one woman that came in, curled up on the counter and slept all night RIGHT under the security camera. Yeah, she got fired.

And Disney does have an extensive greenhouse to make sure that all the greenery is looking its best onstage.

Well then I think we can put the Aristocats back into the "maybe" category, don't you?

This wouldn't be the first place to employ cats in such a fashion. The problem is, they would need to feed them to ensure thay don't take off to some more...unclean place...like Universal :thumbsup2

Wasn't there once a legend that a private club, like the one in DL, was somewhere hiding in WDW? Maybe in the HM, or something like that?

I wonder if they are ever trapped and offered for adoption? I'd worry over them being fed but I assume kind guests feed them plenty:) I'd also be curious if there is a spay/neuter program to keep them under control? They are probably very safe here as there is plenty of covering, it's warm, gators, I believe are kept off property as much as possible...

I hope they aren't caught and destroyed like at zoos:(.. I worked at a zoo and it was policy for any cats on grounds to be taken to the shelter and euth'd because of diseases zoo animals can carry and pass onto animals. I thought it was absurd.

Anyway I wonder if they are ever trapped.. I sure would love to adopt a disney cat! Especially a siamese:)

On DS's 9th birthday this past Feb. we went on POTC. He asked the CM if they remembered to say "Good Morning" to George. The CM was teasing him and saying he couldn't remember if he did or didn't. He asked the other CM and she said she wasn't there. He saw DS's birthday, wished him happy birthday as DS was getting on the boat and told him he hoped it wasn't his last birthday. As the ride started, I quietly called out George a few times while DS told me to stop. The ride was uneventful until...we were the next boat to disembark and the ride stops. And DS starts crying. I, being the compassionate mother that I am, am cracking up laughing. We are literally stuck there for over 20 minutes. They push all of the boats behind us out but we are stuck on a conveyer belt so we can't go anywhere. The people in the boat in front of us can just climb to the front of the boat and walk out. But for our boat, they have to get a portable bridge. And who do you think was the CM helping us out? That's right, the one who told DS he hoped it wasn't his last birthday. I reminded him of this when we got off and he said, "I was kidding!" It was pretty funny! DS did like seeing the back sides of Disney and seeing where the parade floats were stored. And the CM giving out FOTL tickets gave him double since it was his birthday. But he swears he will never get on POTC again, even when he is an adult (which, according to Disney will be next year when he turns 10!)
