My wife and I have decided pretty much not to alot in nassau on our first cruise except maybe walk around the port area in the afternoon, so are there any places (shops, restuarants, bars, etc) that you guys would say we have to see/do, and if so,could you please explain why?

thanks!

We stay on the ship for the most part. We've been there a few times, so we get off the ship with the kids only to go to DelSol. If you aren't familiar, they are t-shirts and other items that change color when exposed to sunlight. The kids are trying to get one from every place we visit on vacation. I have to admit that I like them myself!

How about Atlantis anyone go to the casino there? If so give me some feedback, How did you get there taxi or boat, is it easy to access the casino, do you have to pay a charge to get in?

My husband and I walked to Atlantis. It's a hike, but we're walkers so enjoyed it. I dont' think a taxi is all that much to take you over though. We didn't pay a cover chage to get in, but then we didn't gamble either so I don't know about the casino part of it. I'm sure someone around here will.

My friends and I took a taxi over to Atlantis to do some wandering around. It was $4.00 per person and the driver told us a lot about the things we were passing. There was no charge to get into the casino - on of my friends actually won a good chunk of money there!

We wandered around the resort...looked at the free part of the aquarium and then went to the shops and restaurants that are scattered right next to Atlantis. We also tried to peer into the gorgeous yachts that were docked there too!! We were hoping to see a celebrity or two!

We really enjoyed a restuarant called Bimini Road - the portions were huge, the servers were extremely attentive and the price wasn't outrageous!

Enjoy your cruise!!

Where is DelSol located? Close to the ship?

I think it was about a 5-10 minute walk from the ship. It is on the main street. If you walk straight through the "market", and take a left onto the main street, it is down on the right hand side. I know it was marked on the DCL shopping guide, and they gave us a DelSol color changing bag because we were on DCL.

Straw market-be prepared to barter-it was a great time!

Senor Frogs patio for a bucket of beer and appetizers/snack

and....all the jewelery stores!

We also took a taxi to Atlantis and walked around for a bit-there are a lot of restricted access areas. The casino was great-didn't win anything though.

A horse-drawn carriage ride is pretty neat as well-pick you up right where the taxis are at port.

We loved the Pirate Museum, pub & shop (5-10 min stroll from the boat - very reasonable and good way to pass a bit of time..especially if you have any young bucaneers !) and also the cool T-shirts in "Piranah Joe's" shop near the pier...particularly since our DS is called Joe

Def. take a water taxi to Atlantis. It was $2/person each way back in '00. Even if you just do that it's fun. I love being on the water...hhmmm...like the cruise isn't enough!! We walked around Atlantis and were able to just walk on the beach later in the afternoon. Not sure if there is a charge or not, but we just walked on.

As for restaurant names...when we went to the Bahamas back in '83, we went to a place called "The Poop Deck." My brother and I, then teens, thought it was hilarious!!

Oh geez!!! You guys are making me soooooo "cruise-sick"..I miss cruising!!! In Nassau as soon as you get off the ship, the first little market you come through is great to find unique little trinkets that are really cute...Angels made out of Conch shells were my favorite...They also have inexpensive cross necklaces made out of the abalone shells , I think? In fact, bought my daughter one and it broke..Would be willing to send you $$ if you pick me one up..they are only a few dollars..you can PM me.
Also....Senor Frogs is cool as it is right on the water..Get a window seat, a nice drink and just relax and enjoy the view...
The straw market, I was glad to get to experience once, but will not go back. The other stores along the main street in Nassau are interesting to go browse in as well...There is a cool one called "Pirana Joe's" that has great tshirts for souvenirs...Hope you have an amazing time...:cool1:
