Westgate Vacation Villas- Required to sit through presentation?

We're purchasing a week at Westgate Vacation Villas through friends of ours who are owners. Do we have any obligation to sit through any presentations? Is there any penalty for not?

I'm hesitant to stay here because I do not want to be hassled all week but it's a really good deal for us and we might not have another choice financially.

We did an exchange last time (2010) i just told them my income didn't meet their requirements. Never heard from them again

I used to sell timeshare for a reputable company next to Disney. I love tours and timeshare. But Westgate has a motto: If they're not buying they're crying. Their presentations can be brutal. They are trained to make sure that if a Guest doesn't buy that that Guest will never want to do another tour with any company ever again.

So if you don't have to do a presentation at Westgate that would be best. Just check to see if your stay makes it a requirement or option (at my company any referrals by owners were required to take a tour).

if you are using your friend week then no you don't have to attend.

if you are going thru Westgate then read the documents - they will say.

got a big surprise - staying at Westgate this week and got a great villa even with my cats.

you can see the fireworks from all 3 parks. now right at BLT with a MK view - the castle looks great - you can't see the castle outside of the MK area - but you can see CR and BLT from pretty far away.

the tree at AKL, bb, tot at studios, globe at Epcot and dolphin you can also see from far away.

think the villa number 5863B - it is a master bedroom with a small master attached (or you could separate them)

which I could send you pictures - but left the cable from my camera at home - so the camera does not work (it needs to be charged from the computer) - the one I have is giving me nothing but trouble - so will try again tomorrow.

so far no sales people have even approached. the phone messages are all from the activity team.

so hoping this keeps happen this week - especially after Sept - can't believe the sales guy actually came to the villa to get me to try attend a meeting.

this trip is much, much, much better.

Anyhow any questions? not doing the activites because Westgate expects you to pay $30 to do them.

Late Oct/early Nov I rented a one bedroom at Westgate Town Center from a coworker. After I checked in, the guy sent me to the lady that gives you the parking permits. That lady showed me an owner's VIP card, said it entitled you to use all the resort amenities for free, and said that she was going to schedule me for a free breakfast and after the breakfast we would receive a VIP card. Having already read that this would be a time share sales pitch I simply told her we had plans all week and was not interested. She asked again one time, but when I politely, but firmly told her we were not attending, she handed me the parking pass and let us go. (I did follow the advice here on the boards and left my husband out in the car.) We were never contacted again. I was afraid the guy in the cart that escorted us to the condo, might say something, but he didn't. Now, we also unplugged the phone, just to make it harder for them to contact us. But we never had anyone come to our door or approach us while we were just walking around, or anything. Other than that one lady that called it a free breakfast to get a VIP card, no one mentioned it the rest of the week.

If you're renting someone else's week, then no obligation. If they're getting you some kind of deal through Westgate, there might be an obligation but they should have told you about it/known about it upfront. If you don't have an obligation to go, then usually you just have to deal with the person trying to sign you up when you get your parking pass. They're usually not as tough as the regular sales force and not a big deal. Don't answer your phone (unless you just requested something or have reason to think the front desk might be calling), don't sign up for any freebie meals, you should be good.

I would not stay at Westgate for any price that included having to sit through a sales presentation, though. Even among TS owners who regularly sit through presentations, Westgate sales people are a whole 'nother level of ugly.

Just returned from a fabulous week at the villa. Exchanged thru I I and did not have to sit through any sales pitch, when we checked in a guy at the desk did invite us to owners breakfast and bbq, I politely declined saying had a busy week planned, never heard from them again all week, ps loved the place
