anyone has good idea?
do you have any receipe which has calories on it?
i only have 6 months, and i want to lose 10 pounds... it will be so difficult

Weight watchers. Easy to follow, you don't need to go to meetings if you don't want, and the program works. I've lost 35 pounds so far, my mother about 65. That's in a little over a year (I'm a slow loser, ha!). I should say 35 pounds and from a size 22 to a 16 (14, depending on the item).

And if you're resourceful you can find all the information for the program in various places on the internet. There are free tracking spreadsheets, programs that will calculate points, all kinds of useful tools.

And the thing I like best is that I've never once felt that I was depriving myself. Just learning how to eat better.

Atkins worked for me, I lost 40 pounds in 4 months 1 year ago and I have never felt better. I never feel hungry and my cholesterol is perfect. The first two weeks are tough but after that you add the carbs back in and I don't have any stomach problems anymore and I feel the best I have ever felt.
Good Luck,

thank you for the info
may i ask how much is it? and what do they offer? do they offer recipe, or pill?
and what did you do to lost that much? just follows the receipe?
do u know if they offer free trial?
thanks

If you're asking about the Weight Watchers (WW) program, frankly I can't tell you how much it cost. I found all the information online and I'm doing it own my own.

All I've done to lose the weight is follow the program, and do a little more exercise. And by exercise I mean I do a little on a recumbent bike during the week, I go for walks, that kind of thing.

The WW program is basically calorie counting with a twist. Foods are assigned a point value, points are calculted based on calories, fat, and fibre.

If you can access usenet newsgroups (you should be able to, if no other way than through Google) you can read the group that got me started - alt.support.diet.weightwatchers. Lots of good information there.

Here are some websites to help you get started (I copied these from the ASDW welcome notice, haven't checked all the links):
- http://www.dwlz.com - has great information, especially in the "restaurants" part, very handy for calculating how many points dinner out might be. Also has a Recipes section.
- You can find how many points you should be eating by checking here: http://www.lesslisa.com/wwchart.htm
- There's an points calculator that you can download here: http://www.zythra.com/downloads/points.exe
- You can find online journals (for tracking your points) here: http://www.fitday.com/ or http://www.journaltosuccess.com/
- Information on the nutritional values of various foods at: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl
- You can find more recipes at: http://www.3fatchicks.com, http://www.olen.com/food/, http://www.healthdiscovery.net, http://www.cookinglight.com, http://groups.msn.com/WeightWatchersRecipesTips/wwmeals1.msnw, and of course http://www.allrecipes.com has tons of recipes, not all healthy though. But they do list the nutritional info at the end of each recipe.

That should be enough to get you started!

wow, thank you so much for your info
it really helps, and i will read them one by one
yes, i checked the WW online, and they say it is 80 something for 3 months, which i think is quite expensive. and i hve been searching on the internet to see if anyone can provide those info for free, however, i cannot find any
thanks a lot for your help

I lost 12 pounds in 10 weeks (and STILL losing), and I did not pay for a diet plan or jump on a fad diet or starve myself. Here is what I did:
First, you calculate how many calories your body needs to maintain a weight. Say you are 150. You multiply that times 10 and your body needs 1500 calories per day to maintain 150 pounds.
Also, calculate one pound is 3500 calories. So you can do the math and find that is 500 calories per day you need to eliminate to lose one pound per week.
I lost mine by eliminating 300 calories from my maintenance intake, then I worked out five times per week (200-300 cardio, 20 minutes in weigths). WORKING OUT IS THE KEY! Even if it is just walking. This put me at losing about 600-700 calories per weekday, and 300 on weekends (not working out).
Now, my diet, VERY EASY. I now follow a diabetic diet based on my calorie count. You can probably find sample diets online. It has you eating four-five times a day and HEALTHY.
Sample diet for me:
Breakfast - cup of skim milk and Quaker oatmeal square; snack of 24 pretzel sticks and fruit; lunch of turkey sandwich or wrap with low-fat cheese and light mayo; snack of low-fat yogurt and no-fat Pringles; dinner of just about anything in reason, usually a non-fatty meat, vegetable and light starch. Also, pickles and cucumbers have just enough calories in them that you burn them basically as you chew (5 calories). These are unlimited for each day, which is great because I am a Claussen pickle addict!
Also, with my diet and exercise, I am allowed ONE splurge day per week, where I can have fries, pizza, basically whatever I want as long as I stay within 150% of my caloric intake to maintain my current weight.
Remember, as you lose pounds, you have to readjust your caloric intake so you don't plateau.

Rules I follow strictly:
- Stick to water and no more than two cups of skim milk per day. You can drink unlimited tea and coffee (not loaded down with sugar, try Splenda), avoid juices and soda like the plague.
- Do not eat right before working out. I usually have a cup of coffee with Splenda right before going for extra energy, then eat lunch afterward.
- Do not eat a large percentage of your calorie intake at night as you don't have time to burn it off.

I did follow my exercise routine from a book called "Look Great Naked." Yes, funny, isn't it. But it works and it gets you toned!
I'll be happy to answer any questions. I was pushing out of a size eight 12 weeks ago, and I just bought my dress this week and it is a SIX! woo hoo!

wow, that's amazing
me too, i am now calculating calories
my breakfast: bagel with low fat cream cheese (8:00)
10h00: one apple

One thing you might want to watch, do not take in too little calories, or your body might start conserving them thinking you are starving. Make sure you have a good balance of everything and you drink lots of water.
I can't run either, believe me! If you can run five minutes, you are doing better than me! Walking is a GREAT cardio exercise. As you walk more, the faster you can go. I absolutely adore elyptical machines, but I have the luxury of having them close to work (I work at a university and they have a rec center). You can also use a bike, that works well.
I found this Web site to calculate calories burned just walking:
Calories burned walking
The good thing is, once you get into a diet routine, you will no longer have to count calories as you can sense what is good and what isn't. I have eliminated cravings for stuff like french fries, cakes, all things bad. And once you get moving in exercise, you will want to do it all the time due to all the added energy. I'm gearing up to go in 15 minutes and can't wait!
My mother is a nurse and will try to remember to email me the diet she gave me to post here tomorrow. Until then, you might find some helpful info on this site:
American Diabetes Association

just wondering, do you have any website where it shows how much calories for an apple, a sandwich, so i can calculate how much calories i ve been eating?
thanks

if you go to allrecipes.com they have zillions of recipes, all with calories, fat content etc.
Now, as a nutrition teacher, I will tell you that not all diets are right for everyone and unless you change your lifestyle for the long term, you will gain the weight back so pick a diet that you LIKE because it will be something that you will need to stick with if you intend to keep off the weight.
Also, the only diet I ever recommend to anyone is to watch the food guide pyramid and lower your caloric intake by 500 per day. a safe amount of weight to lose is 1 lb a week. Any of those diets that promise instant weight loss are generally not the best way to go. Most of the time you are losing the water in your body anyway.
hth!

EXACTLY!!!
louisaho, I adore this site for checking out the nutrition value and caloric content of many foods, including ready-to-eat meals and some fast food:
Calorie counter
The good thing is to check out the calories of healthy foods you know you will like and continue to eat and base your diet around that.
