Urg. I need to vent about school.

Does anyone find this aggravating/ridiculous/some other adjective?

School started on Sept 2nd. It is now October 11th. In that one month and one week, my child development class has had 5 intensive projects. This class is an elective course and a regular class. Everyday in class we do our ATB (at the bell) of at least 5 sentences, then copy at least 3 sheets of notes or we go over normally 3-6 worksheets. Then we read.
This teacher likes to nitpick my projects and tests. One test she took 5 points off because I answered in bullet form instead of sentences. (Trust me, there wasn't much to write about the topics, so I listed them and a characteristic). Okay, I can kinda see why.

Our last project was a brochure on a birth defect. My format was probably different from my computer to the school computer, but I still did the project to hand it in and get over with it. 5 points of because there was an "extra" space in which I didn't put a picture.
She did not give us a rubric, just told us to make a brochure on a birth defect and when it was due. That was it! Here's where my problem is, since I am still on partial homebound all my work I do at home has to be handed in through my tutor. My tutor printed and handed in the brochure, I had no control over how it came out, and yes the program I had at home was filled with information.

It just frustrates me. 5 projects already in an elective class, and I JUST got one for my other 3 core classes.
It seems excessive to me, but again, I'm new to high school. Am I wrong or right?

That is a bit ridiculous. I've been in school since August 21st (with this past week off) And I have only had 1 big project and that was an essay...I wouldn't excpect that many projects out of an elective class...Though my elective class were already on our 3rd project too but its sewing so its all done in class. I think writing a letter to the administration might be a good idea...

thats just highschool. teachers are under the mindset that their class is the most important out of all of my six highschool classes, and my two college professors feel the same way. It is not unusual or uncalled for to have hours of homework a night per class. its excessive and typically unnecessary, but its just highschool you gotta suck it up and get over it and do the work. junior year is the hardest and most work intensive, in my opinion. most senior classes are slacker classes that you have to take to get your requirements down so you can graduate. freshman classes are really easy and silly with lots of homework but its nothing to worry about, and sophomore gets heavier because they're trying to prepare you for junior year. but junior year is the hardest.

My Global Connections teacher is pushing us really hard. She gave us an assignment where we have to find pictures of heros and then give an one paged essay about how they're heroes. Then yesterday she gave us another assignment about Greece, where we have to fill out this 3-paged assignment with tons of questions and stuff. And all of this is due on Tuesday. It seems like teachers usually do that on a 3-day weekend, though.

Maybe I'm just seeing this from a different side because I might not have to do as much work (something like an IEP or 504), but it just seems like a lot for an elective course.

ehh right now junior year seems sooo much easier to me then sophmore year and i'm in AP classes...Maybe i just have better study habits then last year but it is by no way as hard as sophmore year was...

i doubled math and sciences sopho year. my classes were harder then, but my junior year had a lot more homework and stuff. like the material wasn't as difficult, i just had more to do.
does that make sense?

I think you should know my background. Until you hear from a doctor and have solid proof chemotherapy does not cause memory issues, please don't tell me what I should do.
I just asked if this was normal procedure, that's all. Sorry Shelby, but your post frustrates me.

I feel ya.
I have been working since 11 this morning on my homework. I have only finished 1/2 of my physics work, and 1/2 of my math work.

I still have:

-5 problems left with physics[will take 10-15 minutes a problem...]
-50 number math study guide/study for math test.[which pretty much requires 5-10 minute long problems. Not cool]
-Read Antigone by tomorrow[I didn't realize the deadline was coming up I am going to sparknote it though. Quizes are only worth 5% of the grade if even, and I got 100% on the last one. Not to worried...]
-Read 75 pages out of huck finn by tomorrow[again sparknoting the last few chapters. I will be able to slip by with a B easily. I have learned the skill of BSing my way through answers ]
-Start studying for my Humanities Exam which is on wed. I have to complete 2 study question journals, then the study guide, then just plain studying....5-6 hours right there.]


Things I am not worrying about[but need to get done...]
-Criminal Justice Project. I will have time to work on this in class tomorrow, because my powerpoint at home is not working right]
-Type up meeting minutes for Rho Kappa

So I really do feel your pain. The way I get through this is just work on one thing at a time and not to think about EVERYTHING I have to do. Once I finish something I move onto the next thing. It helps keep the stress down and things get done faster actually. Good luck, and I am sure you will be able to scrape by.

P.S. I took Child Development last year, and the teacher was CRAZY. Seriously, she treated the fake babies like the were living breathing pooping peeing creatures. It was really weird lol

if your iep is saying you get less work than everyone else, why are you having to do all this stuff for some silly elective class?

I don't know. The teacher is impossible to get through to, she doesn't answer the calls or emails. That's why I was wondering if this is normal procedure, she seems to be giving a ton of work.

the work load seems normal to me. but you shouldn't let your tutor print anything else for you, if shes marking off for the way he's handing things in like with that pamphlet. she won't care if its his fault, your grade will still suffer.

For some reason though we still have hardly any homework, Spanish and math are the ones i have the most homework in and well AP chemistry we have alot but for the most part i copy because i just dont' get it...Going to start getting tutoring for that though...

eh. count yourself lucky. idk why, but junior year is usually the most intense, at least at my school.

I think junior year is the most intense everywhere. I know it is at my school, we take our final PSSAs, and I think that's when you take the ACTs/SATs/whatever? Plus you start looking at colleges, do the resumes, the whole shebang.

I dont know about high school but middle school is like that.

In civics i have 2 major projects at once.

We are having a campaign election and i got the loverly job of being the trusted Campaign manager, my OWN candidate is like "Why don't you talk to our campaign manager, she is REALLY good with this stuff", plus, its my job to

organize the money
sign loads of paper saying that i authorise to do so
get the party members in order
to make sure we get the right media coverage
and MORE.

Its not that its stressful, but at the same time, ive got community service hours that are REQUIRED.

Isnt that a bit silly? To have mandatory volunteering? I agree with what they want to teach kids, but.....im just not feeling it.

Thats just in CIVICS.

In english we are doing autobiographys...with CHAPTERS...not that big of a deal, but whats expected of us, its kinda crazy.


They baby us *literally* then they give us a boatload of work and say 'DO".

My teachers frustrate me because I always get these lazy ones.
We do no work all of the beginning of semester, and then like two weeks before Christmas break it's all..
'Oh hey, you know what? I don't have enough marks to put in for your next report card, so um yeah, let's do a crazy amount of work in no time!! Doesn't that sound fun?'

It happened both semesters last year, and it's looking like that again. We don't learn in math, and never have projects in anything but science (the only class we work in).
I expect to be dead around the middle of December.

It does frustrate me that all of the teachers do this. I do get that they don't have to talk to the others about when they assign stuff, it doesn't matter to them. They schedule things for their classes, not others.
It's just the fact that my teachers are so gosh dang lazy all of the semester and try to make up for it in not enough time.
