Upgrading free dining?

If you get free dining at a value resort (counter service) can you pay to upgrade to table service dining?

We are planning a trip mid October and have heard that free dining may be offered. We want to know if we can do this before we book our resort.

you can upgrade however it might be cheaper to book the moderate and get the regular dining plan

Yes, you can upgrade. I did that in November and I think it only cost me about $225 for 4 people (2A/2kid) on the DP. Well worth it!
