Unpopular Opinions

Here is a terribly unpopular opinion (something akin to assaulting your mother or spitting on the flag, I'm afraid): I don't get people who have to update their facebook FROM THE SHIP!! OR go on DISBOARDS FROM THE FREAKIN SHIP!!!!

It's a vacation. unplug a little. your pretend facebook friends will miss you all the more and look forward to your return....

I completely agree with you. One of the best things about cruising is having everyone in my family unplugged.

I have seen a few FB friends post when they book a trip, "next year I'm going on a super cool vacation". Then they post the monthly countdown to their super cool vacation and the packing process for their super cool vacation. By the time they go on vacation everyone has already heard way too much about their vacation. But, they still post 10 updates a day WHILE on their vacation.

My unpopular opinion (and I realize it is unpopular and my own) is that I don't see the appeal of cruising DCL without kids. Yep, I just don't get it. I love DCL and have had the best vacations of my life. But I just can't see myself wanting to do it without the kids. So many other vacations would appeal to me more if we went away just the two us.
We haven't cruised with kids. We like the family friendly atmosphere and while we're not crazy fans, we like Disney. There are a lot of things for adults to do and there's the relaxing without casinos, smoking and over-drinking. We're not into "partying".

DH and I are childfree... We LOVED our cruise. There are so many things to do for adults. From the Quiet Cove section to the Mixology classes... The District. Remy and Palo... Serenity Bay!! Not saying it should be you #1 choice of vacation but IMO it is a great choice for a romantic vacation.

If you ever get to Cozumel again do a Jeep Excursion. They are a blast, get you out of the port area and over to the other side of the island with several stops along the way. We have done it and are doing it next month on the west bound Panama Canal cruise.

I second that recommendation. We did the Dune Buggy and Beach Snorkel Combo through DCL and had a blast. The port area in Cozumel reminded me WAYYY too much of my forays walking across the border into Tijuana when I was younger.

Definitely unpopular with me!

I like to use my DVC points for cruises. I could never afford the prices OOP for these cruises. DW and I have done 8 DCLs, 6 of them just us, we find that for us when you count in the cruise, food, entertainment, and travel we are getting a very good value for our points. Of the 8 DCLs, 7 of them were all or mostly all on points, on one was an all cash cruise. I get creamed over on the DVC board when I mention that I use points for cruises. I paid cash for my points back in '93 & '97 direct from Disney, they are mine to use and I will use them how I choose no mater what anyone else has to say.

I'm sorry to ask, but I just have this kind of brain: do they give you a hard time because you could rent your points out for a higher real-dollar value and then use that money to buy a greater amount of cruise?

I'm not DVC and it's your business, just couldn't think of another reason anyone would hassle you.

...do they give you a hard time because you could rent your points out for a higher real-dollar value and then use that money to buy a greater amount of cruise...

Some do.
Some think that DVC points should only be used at DVC resorts for the best "value" and further believe that anyone who doesn't share their opinion does not understand how DVC works. I have never rented nor will I every rent my points cause I do not like the inherent possible problems that can come from renting.

Actually you need to get the input and approval from myself and other posters here prior to making a decision on how to use your DVC points.... :)

Once a person puts a post out there, people get to give their opinions. :)

Just like when I talk about financing DVC (which we did). Lots of opinions about that. :) (I don't recommend it to anyone else, but it was the perfect decision for us at that exact time...wouldn't do it again, though!)

When there's a post about DVC and cruising, it's usually a newbie talking about using them for cruising. If it seems like that is WHY they are buying DVC, people will absolutely tell them that it's not the financially wise way to use the points.

If someone like the PP, who bought in LONG ago, knows the issues, and chooses to use them anyway, big deal? But newbies shouldn't look to those people as THE way to do it, because buying in now is SO much more expensive. Newbies need to know the financial realities of it, with the cost of their points factored in, not points costs from the early 90s.

Clearly this is an unpopular opinion or this board wouldn't be so popular, but it drives me nuts when someone asks for opinions on what they will like. What I like is not the same as what my neighbor will like. (Much less someone of a different culture or background.)

So much of enjoying a vacation is about doing what makes YOU happy - not what someone else said made THEM happy. I love this board for gathering factual information (how do the Kids programs work, what's the process during embarkation, etc) but I can't see coming on here and asking if I would enjoy X, Y or Z. How would anyone else know that?
