Ugh please stop, you are making us all sick

We have a new temp working in our office. She sits all day and sucks snot. (Sorry I wish I knew a more polite way to put that) Snorts all day long. It is truly disgusting. I have offered her Kleenex, she tells me she doesn't like to blow her nose alot. (MMMM more than once a day would be nice) Someone else left her a stack of Kleenex on her desk. She threw them on the side. We all work in a very open area and it is really becoming an issue with all of us. We have gone to our boss and he doesn't want to talk to her about it. So what should our next step be? I'm ready to call the temp agency

:scared1: Ugh - that is so disgusting. It would truly make me want to vomit. If your boss won't call the temp agency, I don't know if it would do any good for you to. That is really rude of her, for her to be doing that and knowing how everyone feels about it. :sad2:

OMG, I would be so crazy right now. If the boss doesn't want to talk to her and doesn't want to call the temp agency, why doesn't he ask the next person in charge to do it, someone should.

That is really disgusting and annoying, glad I have an office by myself.

Gross, but you know, she may really have a (ahem) phlegm problem. If she took you up on the tissues, that might either substitute another equally disgusting noise (full-bore honking nose blowing), or not solve the problem of phlegm in her throat, and leave her doing that gross hawking, clearing-your-throat noise. (Can you tell I know someone who has a problem like this?)

Maybe encourage her to create some background noise when she's got to clear, like turning up a radio or fan or something? Or take evasive action like earplugs for you?

Good thing she's a temp. This too shall pass.

I think until people that dont have allergies can spend a day having allergies you really have no idea how irritating it is to actually be haivng a phlegm problem all day or having a nasal drip that you constantly have to do this.

I dont know to what extent she is doing this or how loud but I can tell you that when I'm in full swing, tissues dont do a dang thing for me, I can blow blow blow all day long and nothing is coming out, but if i "suck snot" then yeah its coming out. Sorry but thats the way it is. Try to be a little understanding.

I live with horrible allergies 365 days a year and I don't do this all day. It can be controlled, that is why there are allergy meds, kleenex, throat drops, nasal sprays, etc. She could excuse herself and go to the restroom to blow her nose. When I have a flare up, I shut my office door or go to the restroom and blow my nose, so everyone doesn't have to hear it.

This is DH. It drives me frigging INSANE!!! Seriously, most of our fights revolved around me harping on him to stop sniffing & go blow his nose. Of course, I'm also an easily-aggravated person so we're doomed to fight over stupid crap like that.

Thankfully he doesn't do the gross snorting. Just constant sniffing. His mother's the same way.... hmm, maybe THAT'S why it irritates me so much. Reminds me of her. :rotfl:

I've got some heinous allergies. Actually going to the allergist today to get started on allergy shots!! But my typical regimen is Claritan-D (24hr) in the morning PLUS nasal spray PLUS Benadryl before I go to bed. All of that just so I don't feel like crap. And I definitely don't snort or sniff like that. On bad allergy days where I'm miserable and nothing helps, yes, I sniff all day. But those aren't that frequently. Also, like I think I might've previously mentioned ;), sniffing drives me nuts. Even my own. So I'll go through a box of tissues a day blowing my nose so I don't sniff as much.

I agree with this. Put a bottle of Afrin on her desk. :thumbsup2 Maybe somebody should just tell her that they can't stand to hear her sniffing one more time. At least then she would be self conscious about it. And yes. . .it would have me gagging. . literally. . .to have to listen to that.

Heinous is a great description. I'm gonna hijack a minute, but have you tried an allergy medicine called Palgic? it is so much better than Claritin-D and Zyrtec, which I have become immune to and I don't have to take all that other stuff you mention like I did before. It is prescription, but there is a generic and it isn't expensive. I think it is a miracle cure for allergy suffers. I tried allergy shots also with no relief.

I get clogged like that from time to time. Blowing doesn't help (it's post-nasal drip) so the only way to breathe is to either cough up a phlegm ball or suck it in. Luckily I work from home so I don't subject anyone to my clearing out. When I'm in public I either find a bathroom or try to be as discreet as possible.

Not being able to breathe sucks (no pun intended). Hopefully her illness is short lived and you can all get back to concentrating on your work.

I have two "hackers" in my office. Both with admitted, untreated allergies. The one hacker also has a bridge so she sucks food out of it. All day. She's a grazer. Of course.

Lord, I hate snot suckers. And this comes from the Queen of Allergies. DD will do this sometimes and my standing orders are the same as when I was a teacher, "Blow it out, don't suck it in!" It gags me to have to listen to it.

I have ungodly allergies and take care of it with medication and yes when I find myself snorting I go to a bathroom and blow out as much as I possibly can. Maybe you just shouldn't assume we are all ignoramouses that don't know anything

maybe leaving a note & telling her how it bothers the rest of the staff if she is hoping to stay then maybe she could look for something to help (shot, meds, something) because if the boss gets enough complaints then when the time is up ya will be having someone else fill the spot

the problem is she isn't dealing with it - she is sitting there trying to think it will just go away - which it doesn't until you blow

:sick:I wish I didn't even read this, I can't imagine listening to that all day, yuck. People are so weird & gross, isn't this something that should have been addressed by 1st grade.

I used to work with a snot sucking, phlegm gargling nasty old windbag who seemed to take great pleasure in grossing out his coworkers. Once he got wound up, he could make a snotball last for at least a quarter of an hour. One of us that had the misfortune to sit around him would hit the intercom button on our phone and hold the receiver in his general direction. After a time or two of a company wide gross out via the paging system, his nasty ways came under scrutiny of management and was subsequently brought under control.

I don't really miss the corporate world. :cool2:

Could it be that she really doesn't know how bad she sounds? My dd17 can get like that when her allergies flair. Honestly, I don't think dd has any clue that she sounds so horrible. She skipped her SAT's in May (retook them in June) because I told her that is no way she could sit in a room full of people sounding like she did taking something as important as the SAT's
