We stayed at the RPR for one week last week and had a rental car, so were able to get around.

Coming from a Disney resort, we weren't used to all the congestion and traffic near International Drive, and found a quieter area in the other direction. Near the corner of Sand Lake Rd and Dr. Phillipps Blvd, there are new shopping plazas on all four corners near a more residential area.

Here are some places we saw or visited:
24 hour Albertsons supermarket
Publix supermarket
Einstein bagels (try the orange mango)
Panera (fresh baked bread, sandwiches, soup)
Pizza hut takeout / delivery (will deliver to RPR)
Starbucks
Chamberlains health food store
USPS mailbox (drive up near Starbucks)
Ruths Chris steakhouse
Steinmart (if you need some clothes)

On Kirkman (6877 S. Kirkman Rd.) is Sweet Tomatoes. A very good large salad bar plus a pasta bar, soups, baked potatoes, dessert. $8.29 for adults, $4.40 for kids 12 and under.

North on Kirkman Road (route 435) we ate at Donato's pizza. There's also a super Wal-Mart near there.

If you're looking for vegetarian, try the Garden Cafe on Colonial Drive (not close to the hotel). Not such a great neighborhood, but not bad enough to scare us away. It is an all vegetarian chinese restaurant. The orange "chicken" was very good. Very nice people and service. No alcoholic beverages.
