Do we make it to 1 am at the MK? Part 1
So where were we?
Oh, yes, the last day of the class trip. We had spent the morning at Animal Kingdom, the afternoon at Hollywood Studios and most of us had a break for a couple of hours at the resort.
It was now time to hit the Magic Kingdom. The park was closing at 1 am and we had no curfew.
On the bus over, my friend L. suggested that we ask the boys what they wanted to do and we made note of their suggestions.
One dad and two students had stayed behind at Hollywood Studios then went on to MK without taking a break. We would meet up with them when we arrived at MK.
We arrived at 7:40 (according to the clock on the train station).
The rest of our group was at Tomorrowland Speedway, so we headed to there.
Once we were together, I offered to get Fast Passes while everyone else rode the Peoplemover.
The line at the FP kiosk was brutal- the families in front of me had no idea what they wanted to do for rides, and some of them didn’t speak English and didn’t understand the process. The person right in front of me got to the head of the line, and then she tried to call over members of her family, but it took them forever to get there.
Finally, it was my turn, and after listening to what was available while I was in line, I got Fast Passes for Haunted Mansion at 9:05 pm.
When I returned the group and let them know what I reserved, one of the chaperones (our thrill rider) said
“Did you get what YOU wanted or what the kids wanted?”
I was pretty annoyed by the comment because, yes, I HAD asked the boys what they wanted when we were on the bus. They said Space, Big Thunder or Haunted Mansion. Space and Big Thunder were not available.
It was 8:20, so we had some time before our FP. We hopped in line for Buzz.
While in line, I thought we should make a plan for dinner since we hadn’t eaten since our lunch at HS. My first choice was to return to Columbia Harbor House because I wanted to try the Seafood Mac and Cheese which is only on the dinner menu.

Then we would right by Haunted Mansion.
I surveyed the group, and amazingly, they all agreed.
Perfect!
Except… I didn’t know what time CHH closed at night. So I approached a CM who was working nearby to ask. She pulled out a book of info, but it didn’t list the closing time. Then she said she could get the info on her phone, but that Cast Members are not allowed to use their phones when they are “On Stage”. The CM asked her supervisor if it was alright to use her phone because she was trying to help a guest. Surprisingly the supervisor said “Yes” and we both tried to block the view of the CM while she checked her phone so nobody could see.
The answer: CHH closes at 9 pm. It was going to be close by the time we got off the ride.
Ben asked if he could ride with me.
There had been a lot of hooting and hollering by some of the kids in our group while they rode the TTA and Ben had a headache.
I can’t remember who got the high score, mainly because I don’t really care.
When the ride was over, it was around 8:50. Although I really wanted to go to CHH, I didn’t want to risk getting there and finding out they wouldn’t let us in because it was closing time.
I am not a big fan of Cosmic Rays because it can be really chaotic and you have to go to different pods to order different meals. I also get concerned about seating there. But it really was the best choice for us at that time.
I got the pulled pork sandwich with green beans for a side and Ben got the grilled chicken.
I was pleasantly surprised. There was plenty of seating (then again, it was 9 pm) and the food was good.
I mentioned earlier in the report that I had been sharing little bits of Disney trivia with everyone throughout the trip- a lot of it morbid things like the ride on which the most deaths have occurred and that nobody dies at the Happiest Place on Earth (they ship ‘em to Reedy Creek)
I can’t remember what little tidbit I was going to share, but I asked out loud “Who is sick of hearing Dee’s Disney Trivia?”
And a little girl, about 6 years old, walking just ahead of us with her family, turned around to look at us and raised her hand.
We all cracked up!
ETA: I think I was going to share that Disney is largest consumer of fireworks in the world.
I was really happy to be going on Haunted Mansion since this would be my only time on the trip. The group had gone as part of the Y.E.S. class at MK on Tuesday, but that was when I was having my solo adventures at the park.
When we exited the ride, the fireworks from Wishes were going off. We walked around a bit to try to get a slightly better view. The pictures from my phone are pretty lousy, but these are the best of them:
