TR Oct/Nov 2012- Cowboys, casinos and pixie dust OH MY!

Bummer to hear Ihop wasn't that good. I've always wanted to try it.

Sounds like you got some real bargains today. Walmart sounds amazing, I hope to see one someday.

Loving the live updates, thanks for taking the time.

We had one dinner at iHop this trip. It wasn't fantastic but it was adequate for a quick., cheap dinner when you just wanted to go somewhere next door :-)

I can't get my DH to go back to Denny's, I thought they were OK but he thinks they're very ordinary.

Today was our day at the State Fair of Texas! Started well by having a full nights sleep :goodvibes it was like the Royal Easter Show but a little bigger & stuff we don't do & missing some things we do. Entry was only $17  then you buy coupons to get food rather then paying when you line up 0.50 cents per coupon & only slight mark ups on drinks ect.

We mainly walked around just checking it out & taking photos. I shared waffle fries with Sam #3 around 4pm for lunch with ranch dressing, yummy!!! I tried to get a tee shirt but they find have my size :( but it does close tomorrow so it makes sense.

We stopped off at the Galleria on the way back around 7pm, a huge 3 level more upscale mall which is open till 9pm, 6 days a week. Found two styles of cowboy boot I love in Steve Madden both under $200 including tax but they didn't have my size :( got the style names to search elsewhere.

Now back at the hotel, packed to move into Vegas tomorrow & doing well considering I had a really small chocolate milk for breakie & shared chips for lunch and no dinner, not all that hungry.

Night all, glad you are enjoying the updates! It will help me remember what happened each day :rotfl:

Started the day with IHOP, was just okay IMO, had a great day shopping at the Grapevine outlets, spent about $110 including $47 at the Disney outlet :goodvibes

We also had our first taste of Walmart. Oh my goodness!!! It had McDonalds inside it plus a bank, toilets and an optometrist. We could not believe the prices & they had great Disney tops for kids for $7.50 which fit us as they went to XXL (size 19) and L fit me (11-13 :O) and XL fit Bec (15-17). We'll be going back to explore properly :) then we tried Whataburger for dinner which was quite yummy & as we skipped lunch I only left some bun from a regular meal :thumbsup2

You must have got a bad IHOP
We ate there 3 times over our time away, even my DH rates it and he is pretty fussy.
I'm also a Walmart fan :joker:

Enjoy Vegas!

Hello Sam ( and Sam's and Bec!!! )

Ooh, sounds like you are having a great time! I have to ask.........any cute cowboys out and about!!!???:rotfl: I do love me a nice cowboy!!!! Last time we were in Vegas, the national rodeo finals were on and there were cowboys everywhere. Loads of eye candy then!!!!!:rotfl2:

We have been to IHOP in both san Francisco and Anaheim and thought they were both pretty good. DD an I plan on visiting again this week ( I love being abke to say that!!!!! )

Only 3 sleeps for us now. I had to laugh, I got an email reminder from VAustralia today to remind me I had plane tickets booked. I am so glad that they sent it otherwise I may have forgotten!!!!!!:lmao:

Have fun in Vegas:cool2:

We've only been to one IHOP, the one across from DL and I didn't like it as much as I love Pancake Parlour/Manor. Massive portion sizes though and had to bribe DS to finish his pancakes (just for the fun of it, of course:rolleyes1)

I'd love to visit a state fair, too. It'd put our little regional show to shame by miles.

I'm so glad you said that! My sisters think that I am totally crazy for having a mean eye for cute cowboys.....not sure what it is but they are very appealing!!

Hey everyone :wave2: we've had trouble with our Internet in our rooms here in Vegas so I have a few days of updates in one hit :thumbsup2

So we left Dallas with issues occurring at each turn :sad2: first our pick up shuttle wouldn't confirm our booking, then the emergency number was saying there was no record of the booking & then there was but it didn't have the confirmation number super shuttle wanted argh!! In the end after trying for 24hours with calls to super shuttle, the emergency contact in NY & our TA replacement the emergency contact had to ring and tell them they had to pick us up because there was a booking.

Then came the doozy. We arrived to check in at DFW for our Vegas flight and only ONE of the FOUR tickets had been entered properly :scared: now this was a flight United booked for us after cancelling the one we booked so it was their stuff up. But still 40 mins at the desk, with 3 Frontier staff trying to help along with a guy from the Australian emergency contact number (who was awesome though he couldn't do much) so in the end they managed to fix it up and we were on our way :upsidedow but then when boarding someone was already in Bec's seat so they made her wait to board till it was sorted out which was not fun while three if us sat on the plane!

Vegas has been good, I'm not into drinking ect so four days is plenty for me :thumbsup2 Aria is amazing, beds are really comfy & easy to sleep in. First night we did Hard Rock Cafe for dinner and a few shops around it.

Second day we finished off M&M world before spending the day at the South outlets. OMG!!! We spent up big there, I had 12 shopping bags and all out bags covered the king bed when we got back that night :rotfl: we had shakes/coffe for breakie, pretzels for lunch and stopped at Denny's for dinner and did Coke before heading back to the room. Some of the things I bought at the outlets include my leather cowboy boots, a Belle precious moments figurine and Nike joggers :goodvibes

Third day I felt like crap lol I have a cold and it gave me no energy this day. It started well with an early morning helicopter flight to the Grand Canyon, landing at the bottom for a champagne breakie. Only 3 of us went and we scored the front seats without paying $50 each :teeth: once we landed Bec spilt my champagne all over my shorts and jacket :lmao: we saw a squirrel and a chipmunk while we were there and then headed back to the hotel. I slept while they had breakie, then we went up to the North outlets via Freemont street which was interesting. I grabbed a maccas cheeseburger $1.07 with tax  I felt like crap at the outlets and they aren't as good as South so I only got a few things but I did get a Snow White Swarovski figurine :goodvibes it is so beautiful!!!! Then back to the hotel for a Pringles and Cadbury fruit & nut chocolate dinner then bed while the other went out for dinner and exploring.

Fourth day we grabbed maccas breakie before going North up the strip, we got Human Nature tickets at the Imperial Palace for our last night, went on the outdoor gondolas at the Venetian before going back up to the North outlets to collect a bracelet Sam #2 had lost the previous day. We went back to Swarovski where I got a ring and a pressie for my mum :flower3 then I went into Guess accessories which I had skipped the previous day when I felt sick. I got myself a handbag & match wallet for less then the original price of the bag including tax :thumbsup2

Then we made our way back down the strip, stopping at Stratosphere for Bec to do the three insane rides, grabbing slices if pizza for dinner while we waited. Then back to the hotel to get ready for Human Nature :teeth: we missed half of the first song due to traffic while one the bud but we had a booth at the back right next to an Aussie family! The show was amazing!!!! I got quite a few videos before a lady told me to stop but meh they never brought me the drink I asked for so I don't care :p after the show three of us bought their latest CD to get signed and got a photo of us with the four boys!!!! Argh so exciting and the three ladies we also bought CD's for extremely jealous!

Then we walked up to IT to see the Sirens show which I videoed, then we walked back to the Bellagio to see the fountains. We caught the end of one from right at the end and then waited for another from the middle. Videoed both :) then we walked back to Aria, grabbed some gelato (yummy!!) and did a few pokies. I did Grease, Clue, Alice in Wonderland, Pink Diamond, Gone with the Wind and another 1c machine. I won on Pink Diamond so I broke even exactly, putting $5 in and getting $5 back :goodvibes

Now it is 10.30am and I'm still in bed, packed to go while two of the girls went to the pool area to go in the spa lol grabbing breakie at the cafe before a bit if shopping across the road before late check out at 12pm and pick up at 3pm

Next stop San Francisco :wave2:

OMG more stuff ups!

Lots of shopping - good work!

Hope you're feeling better.

You sound like as big a gambler as me. Only, I lost my $3.60 when in Vegas :(

You are taking the stuff ups with a very positive attitude - I'm sure these will become funny stories once you are back but I'm sure they don't feel that way at the time!

Enjoy San Fran:)

Wow that TA has a lot to answer for :) i hope that you love san fran and the rest of your trip is smooth sailing :) i also hope that you get over your cold ... Have a fantastic rest of your trip!!

sounds like a great time was had in vegas...and so proud of you re the shopping..so how many bags do you have now???

keep up the TR, enjoying playing along:surfweb:

Thanks guys :) I was not a happy camper when the tickets screwed up I can tell you and I was the one calling Australia for poor John coped it lol but he understood why we were so upset and did what he could.

Just waiting at the airport, flights is due for 6.15pm & is delayed so we hav about two hours to kill.

Karen I went with one small suitcase inside my big empty one...both are full and my carry on and handbag are bursting lol I'm wearing my boots on every flight because they take up too much space and Bec has my Guess handbag in one of her suitcases because it wouldn't fit in mine :lmao: I'll look for my third suitcase in LA and will buy small in San Fran which should be easy :thumbsup2

Glad you guys are enjoying it :goodvibes

Ohhh ps: we met Alan and baby Carlos on the Strip before we left :rotfl: BEST impersonator we've come across so far by a mile!!

Arrived in San Fancisco, it was late when we arrived because our flight was delayed & we don't love our hotel, slightly freaked out by it although it opposite to the Hilton so it's not down in woop woop. It is tiny though, fitting four women into a room this size with two double beds, 8 large suitcases, 4 carry ons, 4 handbags and 3 satchels has been an effort lol :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Anyway yesterday we did the city tour to see all the main sights, just have to see Lombard street & then the painted ladies off the bus. Our guide was awesome with the history and stories and I had a verrrrry good brownie for morning tea that was to die for :goodvibes

Then we did the Winchester mystery house tour, went down to San Jose for it and it was incredible!!! I bought a book on the house because photos are prohibited but man if you're ever up in San Fran with a spare half day do it!!! We only did the mansion tour and didn't get to do the grounds so we didn't get any photos of the house from the outside. We grabbed some fries there and headed back to San Fran. Two girls had Burger King for dinner, I got cold stone to fill me up after my garlic fries in San Jose, chocolate with kit kat in a waffle bowl with whipped cream and hot fudge yummmm ::yes:: ::yes::

Today is laundry as we haven't done any yet, followed by Pier 39 and the night Alcatraz tour. Thinking of stopping at Disney first, then getting a cable car down to Fisherman's wharf (Bubba Gumps for dinner at this stage), stopping at Lombard street on the way down. Will update later :wave2:

Can't believe I've never heard of the Winchester House, I googled it and it sounds like its right up my ally :)

I'd love to hear what you thought of the Alcatraz night tour, it was spooky enough for me during the day!!!

Sorry to hear the hotel isn't great but the rest of your touring sounds awesome:)

Loving your food descriptions and the amount of shopping;)

5ofus - If you're interested, I have pictures of it in the Jan 2011 PTR/TR, Disneyland section of the boards. There will be quick links in the second post and you should be able to find it. As Sam said, no pictures allowed inside, but I have pictures of the grounds.

And if this up your alley, check out the Mystery Spot near Santa Cruz. I haven't been there yet but I'm hoping to get out there next week.

Alan and baby Carlos are so cool! My DH always talks about him whenever someone asks about Vegas. DH did a double take when he saw him as he's so realistic.

This has to be one of the funniest trip reports I've read. Are you sure you aren't the Griswald's????? I'm sorry that your holiday has been so screwed up but I'm sure none of you will ever forget it and it will make great dinner conversations for the rest of your lives ;)

Oh, so jealous, I've always wanted to do Winchester house! :) We were in SF 2004 but hadn't booked anything and just ran out of time.
