Tower of Terror, drops how many times?

I really want to try Tower of Terror when I go to WDW for the first time in just 8 days.
But I know if it was just one drop I would be O.K with that, over before you know it. But, if they keep dropping you, I don't know about that bit. How many drops is there. How big is the drop????

Each ride on the ToT is different and determined by the computers. The distance and frequency of the drops are basically random but I will tell you - it is more than once!:scared1:

There are different programs, each with a different amount of drops. The last one I did had about 5 but some were only a few feet, or so it seemed. Do it anyway. I was a little chicken but it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
Good luck
Scott

It is different every time, could be 4, 5, 6 or more drops......

"After the elevator moves in to the shaft, the randomly-selected drop sequence begins. At one point, doors in front of the riders will open to reveal a view of the park from a height of 13 stories. In the years since the attraction's initial opening, a randomized pattern of drops and lifts have been added, where the ride vehicle will drop or rise various distances at different intervals. This change was made to make every trip to the Twilight Zone a different experience. After a series of these drops have been made, the ride vehicle returns to the basement of the decrepit Hollywood Tower Hotel. The slogan for the ride now is "The Tower is in Control!!"

I have never been on the ToT, but this time I want to ride it.. Do you think it is too scary for a 6 year old?? My two boys have never been on it either. they are 6 and 10... He they say they want to ride it, I will if they do, IS it really scary??

My kids have been riding this with me since they were really you. My daughter, now 15, loves this ride. My son, now 17, can take it or leave it (he's not quite the thrill ride kind of kid). I think if your kids like other thrill type rides, they will love ToT as well.

Have fun!

Completely random. If you are really afraid of it once you get past the first drop which is usually the biggest one it is not scary at all. Usually it seems by the end of the ride everyone is laughing more then screaming!

It's random and so much fun!!! I loved it even though I am a total chicken!! It's a rush!!! don't miss out!!!!:thumbsup2

Ride! How bad of a drop can it really be if you only have a seat belt on? And be ready for the camera snap!

We just returned from WDW, and we talked to the CM before the ride about general stuff, and when the ride was over - he asked us if we wanted to ride again - right then! Yes! so we took a front row seat for a second ride. a magical moment!

And thank god for those seat belts, because each time I ride it my butt completely leaves the seat!

And the drops are usually 3-6. :p

Do you think it is too scary for a 6 year old??
Depends upon the 6-year old. I'm sure many will love it - but ToT was *way* too scary for the 9 and 7 years olds I was with.

I'd say it is easily the "scariest" ride in all of WDW. Maybe not the most intense, but very scary. It's the whole uncertainty factor. You are in the dark. Doors open. You don't know what you are going to see. Then the ride will rocket off. Maybe up, maybe down. Maybe a big fall. Maybe a small one. You don't know what to expect next.

As I said, it might be right for some 6-year olds. But personally, I wouldn't take anyone under 10 on the ride unless they had ridden everything else with no problem and were begging for more.

I wish it was one drop as well like when it originally opened.

I can deal with the one drop because it is over.

Last time I went it was 7 drops. My stomach was in over drive.

I would do it at least once though. The ques are fantastic. One time I did everything but the drop ...They escorted me down a different elevator where I met the rest of my family.

I suggest you do it and if at the end you decide not to you can always bail out:goodvibes :goodvibes

It's different every time. Some of the drops are nothing and sometimes the drops feel very intense. It always seems like there is one drop where you don't know if you are going up or down. That is strange. I am a huge chicken, but I force myself to go on this ride. I always love it once it's over. I never feel dizzy when I get off. I never scream. I just hold on and go with it. It is very unique and worth a try.

My DS9 has ridden this since he was 4. I wouldn't say he is a huge daredevil but he is up for trying anything once. On his first ride, he didn't want to do it again, but now he loves it.

We are going to attempt to get DD5 on it this weekend. We won't force her, but she is scared to try things and once we get her on she loves it and wants to go on a million times. It took a whole week last summer to get her to go on BTMRR and now she keeps saying it's her favorite ride. I just keep telling her that TOT is like a giant Frog Hopper in the dark.

So, I think it really depends on the child as to whether it is too scary for a 6yo.

I love ToT. It amazes me how different each ride is. I've been on it a couple dozen of times and I can only remember twice where it was a "repeat" ride. I am a thrill ride enthusiast and it has only ever gotten my stomach once. That was the last time I rode it. Was about a month ago. There were alot of little drops, but the up's were the killers. Had at least 3 times where we went from all the way bottom to all the way top. Now that was a thrill!

As for a 6 year old riding, it depends. My son is afraid of ToT because of the heights. He's been going on RockNRoller since he was in kindergarten. So it's not the speed that "gets" him. We had a friend take her 5 year old. It was a disaster. She couldn't differentiate between real and make believe. The ghosts scared her terribly. She was too afraid they were going to come back to worry about any drops.

We've had a ride with 3 and one with 4. I was ready to get off the 1st time with just 3 but the 4 wasn't bad. The drops are very smooth and once the 1st one is over, the others aren't bad at all. Its like a roller coaster--once your over the 1st hill........

My kids went on it for the 1st time last Feb. they were 5 & 8 and they just loved it..

I didn't know there was a option for you to bail out ?????? How did you get to do everything but the drop? I would love to do that. I have never been on TOT but would love to Try?????:rolleyes1

My 6 and 8 yo's LOVE it!!! 4 yo didn't ride, but my SIL took her 4 yo on it. She's spunky. She screamed through the whole thing, but was fine after. Depends on the kid.
It is DEFINITELY my girls' favorite, favorite, favorite ride!!

I seen on the Travel Channel that the drop times are different and never the same.

I for one am NOT one of those people laughing by the end... I SCREAM from beginning to end... with MY EYES CLOSED.... makes for a great photo.. NOT!!!!
