We were on the fence about purchasing the DDP for our trip (June 8 - June 17, 2015). We’ve had the DDP on our previous 2 trips (for free) and enjoyed the freedom of not worrying about the cost of what we were eating. For this trip, we decided on the restaurants we wanted to eat at, looked at menus, considered our picky DS (13--an adult on the DDP) and tried crunching some numbers. I used distripplanner.com and based on all of our “research” we decided to pay OOP for our meals. We agreed to eat what we wanted, buy snacks if we were hungry and not worry about the prices! We had Garden Grocer deliver breakfast items that we had in our room each day. We also had bottled water that we carried in the parks everyday.
So of course, we were curious--did we make the right choice? DH kept track of what we spent on food and snacks in his little notepad during the trip. So, how did we do?? Here’s a brief recap of where we ate, and what we spent (not including tips or adult beverages).
We are a family of 4 adults according to Disney. The Dining plan would have been $60.64 x 4 = $242. 56 per day x 9 nights = $2,183.04

We spent $1831.38 OOP.
If we had the DDP, we would have used 35/36 CS credits, 40/36 TS credits (We would have had to pay OOP for 1 TS meal since H & V was 2 credits. We would have paid for our meal at Sci-Fi OOP.), and 35/36 Snack Credits.
DDP would have been $2183.04 plus $88 for Sci-Fi = $2271.04
We spent $409.66 less by paying for our meals OOP.
Now, we did not get a dessert at every meal, which was by choice. We did get some appetizers at a few meals. DH and I did not always order a soft drink, if we we had adult beverages.
For our family and for this trip, I think we made the right choice.
