Tips on things to do in the hot afternoon other than swim or nap?

Hello!

We will be staying at the CBR the end of June and do plan on taking advantage of staying on-site by going back to the resort to take a break.

However, I was curious what other tips people had on ways to entertain yourself while taking a break from the parks for a few hours, such as visit other resorts, etc.

Thanks!

I'm an avid reader - so if it's hot and we need a break, we take a spin around the monorail, and hit the GF lobby with its comfy seating and read!

I've also gone over to FW for some peace and quiet, let my daughter play, and rock her to sleep in a chair on the porch, and read!

Usually we eat/have coffee or something before heading back to the parks.

besides going to swim, we have gone downtown and strolled around, maybe grab a bite to eat, have an ice cream. also last summer they had entertainment outside so you could sit and watch. also my dd and friend will rent the water sprite there. sometimes we go over to CBR walk around grab a snack . just little things to take a break then head back for the night .

We had also gone to DTD. But when it is hot and crowded, it wasn't relaxing for us. But some find crowds and shopping invigorating. ;)
I liked best when we returned to the resort for an afternoon break from the hot sun.
DH lazed in the hot tub and pool.
I had tea or coffee and a cookie, and just took it easy.
We were staying at WL. A few times we just rode RT in the transportation boat.
At WL they also had a sheet guests could ask for at the front desk to find the Hidden Mickeys there. We just explored the lobby and public areas.
Made the trip much more enjoyable. :)

We sometimes go to DTD and shop or DisneyQuest is fun too and air conditioned. Honestly though, if you aren't relaxing at the pool or napping, you will get tired sooner b/c it is not a real mid day break. Just my opinion. It has happened to us! :)

For a longer break the AMC movie theater DTD is a great place to relax.

In the parks I take ride on the TTA. Or sit in a show. We particularly like the American Adventure at Epcot for an afternoon break.

Take a ride on the MK EPCOT loop of the monorail.

Ft. W has a petty zoo and playground area. They also have a "trading post" with neat & different souveniers. You could stop by the tavern and have a drink.

Explore your resort..every resort has SO much to offer. I would guess most guests utilize 20% of the resort offerings whille there...it is a shame.

If you have a car, go and check out OTHER WDW resorts first hand. Gives you an idea where you want to stay 'next time'

Get a massage, manicure or even better...a pedicure for those tired tootsies..;)

I second 'read a book'...if you cannot get into a book, read all of the paperwork the resort has given you at check in (and the stuff they leave in the room). It is amazing how many things are going on while you are there. Get the park maps out and make a list of 'must see's'...

Sit outside by the pool (or anywhere relaxing and pretty) and write a 'trip report' in your journal....It is much easier to remember what you have seen and done while it is fresh on your mind.....

All excellent suggestions! DisneyQuest, Shop at a mall, take in a movie, sit at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe and have Pizza and beer and watch the people go by or read a book on the Hammocks at CBR beach.

Here are a few of our favorite afternoons - although we do hit the pool alot!

- rent water mice and race around the lagoon

- go to DTD, get snacks from the market there, rent a pontoon boat and cruise up the river, leisurely enjoying our snacks

- (with no kids along) - get a margarita at the marina at DTD and enjoy the view

- use the afternoon for photo ops - avoiding all long ride lines and crowds. Make a list of pictures you'd really like to have and go get them.

- take a cab to celebration and look around. Have lunch at the diner, then a stroll by the water. Go see a movie at the theater at celebration.

- spa in your room! If you have a room with a nice view - get at DTD or bring along some "spa" products and give yourself an afternoon break! For alot less money than going to the spa. Put on a foot mask to give your tired toots a break (bring large ziplocs to cover your feet) and curl up on your balcony with some magazines or a book. Deep condition your hair to give it a break from the hot florida sun. A moisturizing mask for your face. Give yourself a body scrub in a hot shower then slath on a think body cream and relax for an hour while it sinks it. Very refreshing!

Susy, your last tip really made me smile. I am Dutch (living in the Netherlands:D ) and people allways say that the Dutch people don't like spending their money. Tips like yours on this board made me realise that not only Dutch people like to save some money. I think it's a great tip, thanks:wave2:

I can't believe I didn't think of this before! I have one of those foot massagers that you fill with water and soak your feet in while it vibrates. I am going to take it with me on our next trip. It's kind of bulky but we're driving so I can just throw it in the car. That way I can get a foot massage either at night or during our afternoon breaks right in the room. We'll probably all fight over whose going to use it first.
