Ticket expiration

We always use annual passes so I'm not up to date on regular ticket policies. When do regular unused tickets expire(that are purchased now, not older tickets)? With all of the changes recently, I thought I read something about them expiring Dec 31 the following year. Is that only for one-day tickets or is that also for multiple day tickets?
 
Even if it is allowed to expire, guests can still get the full PRICE of what was originally paid in purchasing ANOTHER ticket.

So IF (the big IF) there is free dining and we buy the tickets to take advantage of free dining, we can still use our AP for the trip, save the tickets bought for free dining, and then use those tickets towards our annual passes the next time we buy annual passes? (we always let them lapse for 6-12 months before buying again) Is there a way up use unused tickets towards an AP VOUCHER or when you use tickets to upgrade to an AP is the AP automatically activated then?

If the tickets applied for the upgrade have been used to enter a park, aren't the APs immediately active with an expiration date set at the first day the tickets were used?

The tickets the poster, OurLittleFamily, is asking about will NOT be used to enter a park.
The OP intends to use their current active APs for the upcoming trip.

They are buying new MYW tickets because they want to buy a Resort Pkg. that requires a minimum multi-day ticket purchase.
They will then HOLD those tickets, unused, until they want to buy new (or renew) APs the next time.

I believe this may be true in some other situations, but for us, we wouldn't use the tickets since we'd be using our AP so this wouldn't apply in our case.
