They gave us an occupied room at the POP

We recently visited the pop for Wine and Dine half marathon weekend..on arrival they gave us a room and when we opened the door..the room was occupied. I as very shocked and didn't sleep well most of the trip. I went to see the manager the next day...she offered to move us but I declined as we had friends staying at the pop. She then gave us some free fast passes....I tried to use them on the last day...they did not work. I went back to see the hotel manager that evening..he offered me free passes..however I have AP..he said they will write to me offering me an incentive to return...I told him we were due to return in Aoril for Star wars race..but this may not happen.

Has anyone else experienced this? May be worth putting the do not disturb sign on your door when occupied! Will be interesting to see what they come back with ...if anything

We've had it happen to us at POR, POFQ, Beach Club and at least twice at non WDW resorts. We've been both the guests already in the room and the guests walking into an occupied room. It happens.

I've never had it happen at a Disney resort but have had it happen at other hotels, some very high end. It happens, people get late check out and it's not noted at the front desk or extend their stay or just don't get out in time.

Happened to me at the Dolphin. It was around midnight. Scared the crap out of the poor family that was sleeping in there. We went down the desk and talked to the manager, and we were comped the night immediately. We actually had two rooms reserved and they comped us both for that night.

Wonder what they did for the family you walked in on...

Yes it's happened before. The guy at the desk wrote down the room number wrong - transposed the last 2 numbers. Woke people up trying to get into the door. Can't say I was so shocked that I couldn't sleep for the rest of the trip though. If you are worried about someone walking in, use the latch and bolt.

Can't imagine being in a hotel room and not using the latch or bolt.

Of course, don't use them when you have someone else arriving later!

It's happened to us before at both Disney and non-Disney hotels. We never got any compensation. We always use the safety latch so I've never worried about it.

I just thought it was inappropriate ...the people could have been getting undressed....!

It's happened to DH often (he travels a lot for work) but never at Disney.
It wouldn't phase me or cause me to worry on my stay.
I'm sorry you were upset by it and I hope it is not the reason you may not return.

Very true! I was in tears at the counter actually and asked them to please make sure they were taken care of. It was a very long day of travel, a multigenerational trip, and I had 15 month old twins that were so tired. And I ALWAYS use the safety latch now!!

Did you leave something out here? When you first saw that the room was occupied, did you not go back to the front desk and tell them what happened? Did they not give you a different room? Why would you wait til the next day to bring this to their attention?

I'm assuming you didn't share the room with the previous occupants.

I've had this happen several times, at hotels at WDW and elsewhere. It's annoying, because it means a trip back to the front desk. But I've never thought it so traumatizing that I needed to be comped for it. And the DND sign and safety latch are there for a reason. Use them.

Happens, especially since hotels don't use keys anymore. One wrong punch in a computer and you can arrive to a dirty room, occupied room (us but daytime and other guests were gone), room with luggage stacked up (us - we just had it hauled away).... With thousands of rooms at a busy resort, bound to happen. Inconvenient yes, aggravating yes, something to get upset about no I don't think so. A couple FP+ for the inconvenience is fine or maybe something small like ice cream for the family at the food court, but getting some kind of reimbursement or free rooms - no I don't think so.

If you are in your room, close the safety latch, even if in daytime. Use the Do Not Disturb sign. No one will walk in on you should all this be in place. FIL even traveled with tiny alarm that hung on doorknob if anyone tried to come in on him. If you choose to leave it all unsecured you are risking being walked in on - this is on the guest. If you are concerned about those in between times you are gone but want housekeeping; bring something to decorate your window (if you have one), door and/or door knob so anyone approaching knows your room is occupied.

I've had it happen once and it was traumatizing but there was more to the story than just an occupied room.

I was traveling as a teenager while showing cattle for my school's FFA program. I was at the major livestock show in Houston and my friend's mom was acting as my guardian and got me checked into my room and everything. When I got upstairs there was a stranger who was already in his under wear watching an porno on the bed. We rushed back downstairs and they wouldn't do anything for us as they said it was someone who checked in with my father's name and everything looked right. Thinking back on it years later and the evil person my father was I still wonder if it was a set up of some sort. Thankfully my friend's mother let me sleep with them the rest of the trip as she did not feel comfortable leaving me alone after that. When my father found out a few days later he was more worried about if we got a refund or not and less worried about how shaken up I was that they had said this guy was my father and had checked in using his name.
