Hello everyone and welcome to my latest trip report! I'm sure most of you will be coming over from the PTR, but I'll do a quick intro for those who are just joining in.
I've only had time to to upload the pictures from my waterproof camera so far, so all these are water pictures, but I promise there are tons more! (thousands actually )
The cast for this 12 day land and sea Disney adventure was the same as always, just DH, DD and me.... and an uninvited guest.
DH is my wonderful husband of 16 years.
This past year was a very stressful one at his job and he really needed this vacation. Each time we go to Disney, the hook sinks a little further into him. In fact, I would now officially call him a Disney convert! He even asked me some questions about DVC at one point in the trip! (But I won't leave you hanging... we didn't buy in.)
DD (7) is my pride and joy, and I love her with all my heart.
This was by far her best Disney trip yet! She really got into it this time and was old enough to get a grasp of what each park had to offer. She was 4 and 5 on our previous trips and we used a stroller for her both times. We went strollerless for the first time this year though and she did GREAT! She was a real trooper and never once complained about hurting feet or being tired. The girl outlasted us every day! And it was SO liberating to be free of that stroller!!!
And then there's me.
(Sorry, no pictures of me by myself. Not many pictures of me at all on this trip actually. I'm always behind the camera. And please ignore my really ugly blue water shoes. They are underwater 99% of the time, so it usually doesn't matter how ugly they are! )
I am the Disney nut of this family. I love everything about our Disney trips, but I think the anticipation is the best part. Having these wonderful trips to look forward to is what gets me through some days. DH says I am in a perpetual state of planning a Disney trip. He swore that I was already cooking up my next WDW adventure while we were still there! I'm quite proud of myself though because I tried lots of new, adventurous things on this trip, which is very out of character for me.
And last but not least... the uninvited guest. If you read my last TR, you know that DH has this hat that I hate....
Yep! That's the one! I tried my best to hide that thing before we left, but he sniffed it out and insisted that it come along. I am almost certain that he wears it just to annoy me. I really should give the hat a name. It's taken on a life of it's own now, and really deserves a proper title. Hmmm, I'll have to think on that for a while and see what I can come up with!
The dates for this trip were October 26th through November 6th, 2011. We had 12 wonderful, fun-filled, and yes, tremendously tropical days of vacation perfection! It was absolute bliss! We started the trip with a 3 night cruise on the Disney Dream and then followed up with 7 nights at the Caribbean Beach Resort. We all agreed that this was our best Disney vacation ever! I guess the third time really is a charm! I can't wait to share it all with you!
So how did this title for the TR come about? Well, instead of our trip being just 'tremendously tropical' as I had anticipated in the PTR, it was more like a 'magical metamorphosis'. In fact, we started out with very hot, summer like weather, cruising around the Caribbean and we ended up with the parks all decked out for Christmas! What an awesome and very unexpected surprise that was!
We actually experienced THREE seasons in 12 days! We left summer behind when we got off the ship and headed for WDW. Next we began our week at Disney in the Magic Kingdom which was decorated so pretty for fall with pumpkins and scarecrows adorning every window and streetlamp. Then magically overnight it was all gone and Christmas trees stood in their places! When we first saw the Christmas decorations, DH and I looked at each other and said at the exact same time, "It's like Swinter!" And if you don't know what Swinter is then you don't watch Phineas & Ferb! Swinter was their summer/winter combo day on summer vacation.
The 'Key' part of the title is in honor of my DH, bless his heart, who never was able to pronounce it correctly. He kept calling it Castaway C-A-Y, just like it is spelled. I corrected him like the first 400 times he said it wrong, and then I realized... it just wasn't worth it!
So there you go! We will be traveling through the 12 days of Swinter on a land and sea Disney adventure. Now it's time to strap on your seat belts and get ready to hit the highway!
Up next... On the first day of Swinter, my vacation gave to me... a long, boring drive with nothing at all to see!
