The Trip That's Happening a Year Early - A Marathon Weekend 2017 PTR Update:12/22 - Day Seven Plans

Plans sound great!
And I think banana bread is always an excellent option. And that sundae looks so good ...

Ugh same I was super sick the last time we did TH too, and then I was sick when we rescheduled so we canceled. :crazy2: Which is part of why we're going again.

Hopefully you guys actually got to enjoy it this time!

I can't wait to eat that banana bread sundae! What a great idea to combine a bunch of things I enjoy - way to go Olivia's!

22 Days! Updates and Day Five Plans - January 7th, 2017

Holy, time is flying! I can't believe we leave 3 weeks from tomorrow to fly to Orlando - it feels like we've been planning this trip for ages! I'm getting so excited! :cheer2:In the next three weeks, I only have to finish putting up my Christmas decorations, then take them all down and put them away, maybe go Christmas shopping and wrap whatever I buy (luckily Luke and I don't buy for each other at Christmas anymore, since we've been taking trips every January - 2015 we went to the Dominican for a week, 2016 was to WDW, 2017 is again to WDW, 2018 is planned for another WDW trip in January). We're having some friends over next weekend, so I need to do a major cleaning of my house... We bought a new TV on Black Friday, and it's still sitting in the box so I'd like to actually hook that up so it's done (after we got it home, we realized it wouldn't work with our current set-up and was too big, so we had to order a wall-mount online, then it took over a week to show up). I still need to do my Christmas cards and get those in the mail. Not to mention packing for our trip... I think the next few weeks might be a little bit busy haha.

Anyways, on to our plans for January 7th - It will be another crazy early morning, I imagine Luke will wake up around 2:30am. The first corral of runners for the half marathon start at 5:30am, so Luke will probably need to be there by 5am. I won't be going to watch him start, I'll likely head back to bed for a few extra hours sleep. We'll know which corral he'll be starting in, and he will have his phone to let me know his start time/progress. I'll head to Epcot with plenty of time to see him cross the finish line and cheer on all the runners. How early I get there will depend on the weather - last year I was out in the rain for like 3 hours during the 10km and I was kind of miserable at times haha.

Whenever Luke finishes his half marathon, and has collected his medal and snack box and everything, we will head back to Old Key West so he can shower and change into clean clothes. Then we'll head to Disney Springs so he can get his Earl of Sandwich he's been wanting. (And let's be honest here, he'll have just finished a half marathon, he's more than likely going to want 2 sandwiches haha). Depending on the time, I might grab a pizza from Wolfgang Puck Express. We probably won't spend too much time in Disney Springs, just eat/grab food and then head back to our room.

I've left the entire afternoon wide open - I'm thinking naps will be in order. Maybe we'll go for a walk around the resort (depending on how sore Luke is). Or we might just enjoy a quiet day and watch some TV. It's making me happy to know we have one day that isn't planned right to the minute :)

Eventually though, we will need to get ready and leave our room. I don't want to be bothered with transferring buses on this day, so we'll be calling an Uber to take us to the Polynesian. I'd like to get there around 4:30 or so, and try to get in to Trader Sam's to have a fancy drink. If the wait to get in is too long, we'll just head to Tambu Lounge for a drink. At 5:50, we need to check in for supper at Ohana! This meal seems more up Luke's alley, since I'm pretty fussy with meat. But all the other options look good! I can't wait to have some potstickers and those noodles!

After stuffing our bellies, we'll waddle out of the restaurant. Depending on the time, we'll try and get into Trader Sam's again, or just sit on the deck outside if the weather is nice. Our plan is to watch Wishes at 9pm from the beach at the Poly, and also the Electrical Water Pageant. Once we're ready, we'll catch another Uber back to the hotel.

This is our day for lounging around (after Luke runs for a few hours), and stuffing our faces with food and alcohol. I'm not a huge drinker typically, but I'm really looking forward to this day :)

Your lounging around day sounds perfect (well, except for the early wakeup for Luke)!
Make sure you sign up for runner tracking, which will alert you when he hits certain points (I think it's 5K, 10K, 10 miles, and finish, but I'm not sure) and will give you an estimated finish time. That should make it easier for you to figure out when to see Luke at the finish, There should be information about it on the runDisney website and in the event guide.

Plans for January 8, 2017 (and other updates!)

We are now only 15 days away from the start of our trip! Eek!

In life updates - my new medication I've mentioned before is still awesome, but my dose hasn't been figured out just yet. The goal is to go 8 weeks in between treatments, so I just recently did my first 8 week stretch - and it didn't go too well. My medication is an immune suppressant, which is a very common form of dealing with Crohn's disease, but I clearly didn't have enough in my system and my entire immune system went out of whack. I ended up getting an eye infection, which is just now starting to get better. I also had a rash break out around my ear/on my scalp, which my Gastroenterologist believes might be psoriasis so he is now referring me to a dermatologist. So, I've pretty much once again abandoned my running, since I was feeling overall like garbage for the 2 weeks leading up to my treatment appointment. I did get to see my Gastro specialist today, and he has decided to put me onto a 4 week schedule for treatment until I can get everything else back under control. This was such a relief, since our trip to California was going to fall on week 7. Now, I'll be having an extra treatment in between our two trips :) I also can't remember if I mentioned it, but the treatment itself is an IV infusion, so I actually go to a clinic that only deals with this one type of medication. They have big, comfy recliners to sit in, baskets of snacks to eat and free Wi-Fi - each treatment takes 2-3 hours. It's really not bad though, I usually just play games on my phone or something.

Since I haven't been running, I have no idea how I'm going to do on my 5km in Disney. Our original plan had me on track to be up to intervals of 10 minutes running, 1 minute walking, but I doubt it if I could even do 3minutes running and 1 minute walking right now. I might just have to accept the fact that I'll be walking most of it :( This will mean less character stops since I don't want to be swept. Luckily, I know I can walk faster than the sweeping time and I can walk 5km without being sore or anything. It just sucks since I haven't even really gone for a walk. The past two + weeks have been brutally cold here, like -30C (-22F) and colder. The cold snap finally broke yesterday, so hopefully I can get out for some decent length walks over the next 2 weeks.

I'll mention it again once I get my plans posted for January 9th, but we finally booked the last thing we really wanted - the Star Wars Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party! I'm so excited for that!

Now on to our plans for January 8th -

After waking up, we need to finish packing up our suitcases and call bell services. We have to say goodbye to Old Key West, but we still have another 4 nights at Disney - when we leave the park at the end of the day we'll be checking in to our room at Saratoga Springs :)

Once bell services takes our luggage to be delivered to Saratoga Springs, we will catch the bus to Epcot. The plan is to be there early, so we can watch and cheer on some of the people running the full marathon. We did this last year, and it inspired Luke to want to run the full in 2018, so going to Epcot on the morning of the full on this trip was his biggest request. We have a FP for the Seas With Nemo that opens at 10:05, but I won't be terribly upset if we miss it. There never seems to be a long line for that one, so I know we can get to it later. However, we will not be missing FP#2 which opens at 11:15 - for Test Track!

We both like Test Track, and wouldn't miss it, but I imagine we'll both be talking about our excitement to go on the Disneyland version - Radiator Springs Racers - only a few weeks later. After our ride on Test Track, we'll need to start making our way to the World Showcase for our first (of many) ADR's on this day. For lunch, we will be eating at... Le Cellier! We probably won't be ordering a steak, since we live in Alberta - where the best beef in Canada comes from. We have been eyeing up some of the appetizers though. I really want to try the Cheddar Cheese Soup - I'm just hoping it doesn't taste like beer, since it's made with Moosehead and that beer is disgusting haha (Fun Fact - it's made in my home province of New Brunswick, and is the oldest independent brewery in Canada). I'm also very intrigued by their version of a poutine - which sounds nothing like a real poutine. The loaded mashed potatoes also sound pretty tasty...and I have a feeling we'll also be ordering dessert from here - nainaimo pie will be delicious if it's anything like a nanaimo bar. And mple creme brulee? Can you go wrong with maple anything!?

After filling up on appy's and dessert, we have a 2:20 FP for Figment - mainly because we missed it on our last trip. The idea is also to go to Ellen's Universe of Energy at some point to let our food settle, while taking in a ride that probably won't be around by the next time we go back to Florida. We'll play it by ear, and fill the rest of the afternoon as we see fit.

At 6:35, we need to check in for our next ADR - at Via Napoli :) I've read so many great things about this place, I'm looking forward to trying it. Plus, it serves my favourite type of pizza I love neopolitan style pizza. We do plan on splitting a pizza here though, since we do still have another ADR to get to at 8:30 - at La Hacienda de San Angel. We've heard you can see Illuminations from in there, plus we want to try their margaritas. We'll probably order dessert here (or maybe an appetizer as well, depending on how hungry we are haha).

Once we finish there, the park will be closed - although I do believe there are Extra Magic Hours at Epcot that evening. So, we'll decide how we're feeling, and possibly stay for a bit. Once we're tired enough, we'll head to Saratoga Springs to check out our new room :)

When we did our first Disney 5K in 2015, Beth walked the whole thing and stopped for all of the characters. She walks pretty fast, so that helped, but they also don't really sweep the 5k as much, so you really probably have more time than you think. Even walking, you should still be able to make most (if not all) of the character stops without getting swept. There will definitely be people who walk the whole race, so if you do have to walk most of it, you won't be the only one walking!

Hi Fallon, I've gotten so behind here since getting back from Disney last month! Hope you're all set for Christmas :santa:
Sorry about all the ups and downs with your meds but it seems like it might be better under control now? I hope so! I can't believe your trip is SO close :goodvibes
Le Cellier seems to be popping up quite often lately in PTR's and dining reports I'm reading. We haven't been there in years but now I'm wondering if I want to go back......you've got a full food day on the 8th lol!

Thank you so much! This makes me feel so much better about the whole thing :)

I'm so far behind on everyone's trip reports (including yours!). I've been pretty crazy at work trying to do a million things since I'm gone for the first two weeks of January, and our shop is closed all next week (so when I leave my office tomorrow, I'm gone for a full 3 weeks!). I put up two Christmas trees in my house this year, and decided to call it good. I have 3 more I wanted to get up, but it's too late now. Oh well, the ones I have up look good :) Luke and I don't buy presents for each other, since we've been going on a vacation every year in January, so that takes away a lot of stress! My best friend and I also decided not to shop for each other this year, since we never know what to get (she's one of those people who just goes out and buys what she wants herself).

As far as Crohn's Symptoms, I've been fine. I just went too long in between treatments and it messed up my immune system and led to an eye infection and a skin rash on my ear. Ugh. I did just get word that I've been scheduled for a "recovery dose" of medication next week, so I'm very happy that I'll be getting a top up before we go to Florida - I should be feeling really great for the trip :)

I kept saying I wanted to make our trip a little more go-with-the-flow, but then we just kept adding ADR's haha. Maybe one day we'll take a more relaxed approach to a Disney trip haha.

Plans for January 9th, 2017 (Monday)

After 2 Epcot days, a Magic Kingdom day, an Animal Kingdom day and a resort day, it's finally time to head to Hollywood Studios! We will more than likely snack on a few of the things from our Garden Grocer order in our room for breakfast. Ideally, I'd like to be there early so we can get into a short line for either Rock N' Roller Coaster or Toy Story Midway Mania.

Our first FP+ opens at 10:10 for Star Tours. I'm hoping to be fully caught up on the Star Wars franchise by the time we go - I watched my first ever Star Wars movie last week haha (I started in chronological order, not release order - so I've only seen The Phantom Menace so far). We've always gone on Star Tours multiple times, even though I've never seen them, and I've always loved it! I know enough about the storyline already to understand what is going on.

We decided to use our tier 1 FP on the Great Movie Ride. Based on all of the rumors I've seen, this ride will be closing at some point and we wanted to at least go on it once. Last year, the lines were consistently 45 minutes or longer for it, which is too long for us to wait for anything. This FP+ opens at 11:25.

Pretty much right after using our FP, we will make our way out of the park. Depending on what we're feeling like (and what time it is), we will either take the boat or walk over to the Boardwalk area. We have a 1pm ADR at Beaches & Cream :) We will be ordering real food, as this will be our lunch - I'm thinking the tomato soup and grilled cheese. There will definitely be ice cream eaten as well, although I have no idea what. Perhaps a No Way Jose?

We're not in a huge rush, but I'd like to be back to Hollywood Studios by 3:30 or so. At 4:05 our third Fastpass window opens up for one of our favourites - Tower of Terror!

Later that evening we have reservations for the Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party! We knew we wanted to fit one dessert in, and this was the one that appealed to us the most. The drinks sound amazing, I can't wait to have a few of those! Last year they were showing the Symphony in the Sky Fireworks, and we both loved them so I'm really looking forward to seeing the new (to us) show with projections and lasers and stuff.

Once we leave the dessert party, the park will be closed and we will begin making our way back to Saratoga Springs. Dessert is delicious, but it's not really a meal so we did make a late ADR at Turf Club once we're back at Saratoga Springs. I can't imagine either of us will want a full meal, but we might share one. Or we might just split some appetizers? We'll decide based on our level of hungriness/drunkness haha. Whatever we decide on, we will be going to bed with full bellies that night :)

I also just started watching the Star Wars movies! I had seen Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones when they first came out, but I never saw the originals and I never saw the third one, but they were on TV a few months ago, so I DVRed them and finally started watching them a few weeks ago. I'm actually mostly caught up (I still haven't seen the new one) ... so now I guess I have to go on Star Tours eventually.

I'm not a huge fan of Great Movie Ride, but I think it's definitely worth doing at least once. I certainly wouldn't miss it if it does disappear.

I'm all caught up!! We are also trying Le Cellier and Via Napoli this trip! Can't wait to hear what you thought!

Sorry I never did finish this PTR, but it's been fun to go back and re-read what my original plans for each day were, and how they've actually played out so far (it's actually been pretty spot on, with the exception of today - we would have never guessed that the half marathon would be cancelled!). It has been a great trip so far though, and a trip report will be started once we're home :)

I thought of you guys when I heard about the half - I hope you're still having a fun trip despite the cancellation of the race!

I'm aiming to get this trip report started this weekend so it can at least be started before we head to Disneyland - but it's been busy since we've been home! We've now been engaged for 8 days, and have already decided on a venue and a potential date for our wedding (I'm a planner, I need to start working on this!). Keep an eye out for my new PTR for marathon weekend 2018, since it will also include the details of OUR DISNEY WEDDING!

DISNEY WEDDING!!! OMG!!! Congrats on the engagement (and on choosing an awesome location for your wedding!)

What!?! Engaged?!? Congratulations! You'll have to let us know how it happened!! Did it happen at Disney?
