Over 6000 signed up to attend tomorrow. They intend to form a silent wall to protect the first memorial as a result of the marathon bombing against Westboro.

Westboro is always like this. I guarantee you they will not show up. They use to do this and then rely on maybe a few protestors getting in their face, which usually meant they had a chance of suing.

My community had two incidents with Westboro. they were supposed to pick two military funerals. Well we have a community of churches (where about 10-12 of the local houses of worship get together) and they formed an action plan. Got with the families of the service people then withthe local authorities and when Westboro got wind of the fact there were now going to be a few thousand counter protestors ready to legally greet their sorry carcasses. "unexplicably" they had car trouble the first time and second time they had a "conflict" on interest.

they are cowards and like most punks when you stand up to them, they back right down. That is why I've never been in the "ignore them and they will go away" camp. bullies do not go away when you ignore them, they simply ramp up the bullying. bullying stops when you stand up and say "Oh hell no". not in my neighborhood you won't.

I agree with you. A bully never gives up if there is a chance to exploit someone. Now when you stand up to the coward.....poof!

Yep...They were supposed to come to Ft. Hood when we there and never showed up.

I had to look it up because I couldn't use the Facebook link. Apparently they think the bombs came from God, as punishment for gay marriage. So they don't want us to mourn people who died because they think God killed them to punish us for something someone else did that they didn't like. The chain there just blows my mind.

This isn't new to the WBC. EVERYTHING that happens whether it is tornado or someone cutting a finger is all supposedly punishment about people and gay marriage. Every time a military soldier funeral is protested it's because they are thanking God for punishment about the whole gay people thing.

For those that are worried about the WBC coming to town, they don't come in large numbers and unless you really notice the ugly signs you could miss them. The WBC usually only sends in maybe 8 people at the most. The reason your usually gets caught is that seeing a child holding a sign that says ugly, horrific things is quite shocking.

I wish people would stop talking about them and giving them the media they seek. They never show up. They just like to be in the center of everything. We all need to stop talking, posting, and covering them in the media. Let them climb back under their little rock. If they protest, no pictures and no media.

They turn everything into a result of homosexuality. It's rather deplorable. This same explosion could have happened in Sandy, UT and those pathetic fame seekers would still say that was because we are a nation that embraces homosexuality. I can't stand Westboro.

That's how they started. they would show up at marines funerals screaming obsenities and waving horrible signs because they knew no one was going to be there to oppose them and usually if you were a member of the family and asked for them to stop, it ended up in a fight which they then used to sue you.

How would like to be greated with that at your husbands funeral? Or have your young children see that on the way in to their dad's funeral?

The reason why the climbed OUT of their rock was because we (public) let them go uncontested.
Now I totally go with their right to free speach and they did win the right to attend these funerals but it's only been lately when thousands upon thousands of people have let it be known, "you come here and you will be greeted with a whole lot more than a grieving family" have they been canceling. In the last 2 years (that I've been following) every single time they find out that some one is going to be there to "welcome" them, they punk out.

they stopped coming when the motorcycle clubs started escorting families, they stopped coming when other churches banded together and said this is not an example of love for your brother and organized counter groups to shield the families, they stopped coming when students organized and said "uh, I think not".

Like I said, like all bullies and cowards, they stop coming when people say "no more".

The WBC sends maybe 8 people to a function but then 3000 turn out in to counterprotest but then it's not about the person that should be in memory. That person is completely lost in the whole ordeal. This is no way to hold a funeral at all from either side.

They aren't bullies. They are trolls. They want people to respond. Nothing makes them happier than the attention they receive. They've made thousands of dollars provoking people. They literally couldn't survive as an organization if people ignored them.

Bingo. Add in the news media, and the looky-loos who want to see the 3 ring circus, and the funeral is no longer about the soldier, it's about the circus.

Ignore them, don't give a few people with signs attention. They're worthless pieces of crap . They don't even have to show up anymore and they're still getting what they want - the disruption of the funeral or memorial service. And they know it.

I am sorry if others have had bad experiences with counter protests. I strongly believe that if you don't stand up to fight for what is right you might as well be the problem. I am proud of this generation that Acts for what they believe in.
