Reports are that the gate at the new Poly pool is functional and keeping out pool crashers that are not guests at the resort.

If you saw a crowd hovering around the gate as you were about to enter, do you let them in or are you sure to close the gate behind you, keeping them out?

Personally, I wouldn't necessarily slam the gate behind me, but I would be sure that the Poly pool staff would be made aware of who they were and have them scan their bands.

I paid to stay here and if you didn't, tough. Go use your own pool.

If it's handled like Stormalong Bay, there will be staff there. They will take care any issues. I never assume anything. The people you might try to "keep out" may be staying at Poly.

Is Poly staff actively scanning bands after you enter like at SAB?

I think that the new magic band gates will have to make a positive change in the number of pool hoppers at the Poly pool. People making a special trek all the way over to another resort (even if its another monorail resort) just in the hope that they will be able to slip in after a Poly guest uses their magic band to enter is really risky and potentially a big waste of time (not to mention embarrassment) IMO. With that being said, I still think it is strange that they just don't pay some staff members to man the gates to absolutely insure that only actual Poly guests are the ones using the pool there. The B&YC manages their pool much better IMO.

When I was there over Memorial Day Weekend there were not staff members like at BC SAB. I am surprised they do not have them at all of the Deluxe Resorts to be honest.

If it makes you feel any better, the gates are there for safety and not to keep out pool crashers. As I understand it, any newly constructed or updated pool must have a fence.

Would I let people in who were lurking outside the gate? Probably. I know I have been lockout outside of a pool gate in certain situations.

We were there in mid May. I could rarely get my MB to unlock the gate. There's not a mickey head on the "reader" so I had trouble putting my MB in the right area. I wonder how many people thought I was a gate crasher. Luckily DH was already there and let me in twice, a third time another guest let me in.

I would hang back and watch their behavior. Are they trying to use their magic bands to get in? It isn't foolproof but I think that is a big clue. If they are just skulking around waiting for the gate to be opened, that is suspicious. I say this as a guest who never got her MB to work on the BLT gate. Not even once. One of the life guards let us in every time.

I wouldn't hold a gate open but if someone is right behind me, what are you going to do? It's not my job.

Agree, sort of. I prefer the passive-agressive approach by either "accidentally" closing it or by tattling. Seems like Poly staff should be handling it though.

Perhaps, but then they should have bands to let themselves in.

It amazes me that families actually do this? I can't imagine packing up all my beach gear and family and traveling to another pool when there is a pool steps away at my own resort. SMH...

This is what I don't understand. Besides the fact that it's against the rules, the hassle alone would be ridiculous! Think of all the fun things these people could do if they weren't trying to sneak into the wrong pool!

There have also been day guests from MK (not staying at any Disney resort) pool-crashing at the Poly.

here the dvc pool hopping rules - the Polyn is no longer on it - so like the BC/YC it is only for those staying at that resort
You must present your Magic Band or current Key to the World card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other select Resort hotel pools. Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas, the Lava Pool and leisure pool at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and the pools at Disney's Art of Animation Resort. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Does anyone know if the pool bar is gated in as well or can you get to it without going through the gates? We have never tried to "pool crash" but we have always enjoyed going to the pool bar for a drink when we visit the resort.
