Day 8, Part 2 In Which GOR-ILL-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! GORILLA!
On our merry way to our beloved gorillas, look who we saw:
I was kind of contemplating running up to Stitch and screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLEEPING!!!!!!!!!!!" since he had repeatedly yelled that at me like EVERY morning, but I refrained.
You know, I'm still kind of annoyed we got ZERO pictures with characters on this trip. I mean, what gives? In human time, I may be 21 years old, but really I am stuck somewhere in between the ages of like 4 and 12, so I should have been more eager to meet characters! I guess you DO grow up a little bit though, and just want to get to the Cheddar Cheese Soup as soon as possible, so you don't stop for the character lines as much. It's understandable. Ah well, there is always next trip! I think I'm going to make a list, specifically, of the characters I want pics with and not rest until it is completed! A character scavenger hunt of sorts!!
And so we reached the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail. Like I said earlier in the report, we had an amazing first day at Animal Kingdom, but missed out on the gorillas because it was too late in the day, so we were really hoping to have an amazing gorilla experience this time.
PLEASE IGNORE MY CROC-LESS FEET (Oh, the shame! I had not yet seen the croc light - more on that later!) AND GIANT NEED OF A PEDICURE BUT OKAY. One of my favorite things about Animal Kingdom (and the Wilderness Lodge, now that I think of it) is the animal footprints in the ground. Always very effective. I wonder how many different animal prints there are? At AK in the pavement, not like in general. I googled it and came up dry!
I thought these tree roots were awesome:
But who cares, cause THEN WE SAW A GORILLA JUST CHILLIN!!!!!!!!!!
I named him Gorillan Chillian. He did not give a HOOT that there were people around. He was just doin his thang, which is exactly what I would do if I were a gorilla. Well, besides roaring at people and singing Phil Collins songs.
Then we saw this dude who was kinda a Mr. Grumpy Gills:
Who seemed like the big daddy gorilla. IDK, he just seemed like he knew what was what around these parts, you know? I love his WUT RU LOOKIN AT EXACTLY face. Sorry the pic is kind of blurry, but I was shaking with excitement.
This cracks me up cause I like how he leaned over to the right more, as if to look around and be like "Hey. HEY. SERIOUSLY, WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?!"
And then, one of the most awesome moments of my life happened!!! The gorilla STARTED MAKING NOISE. Hearing a gorilla make noise live and in person is one of the most exciting things that has ever happened to me. You probably don't remember, since this TR is 18 months long, but on
our first AK day the safari we did was AMAZING, and the male lion was up and about and pacing back and forth Scar-style and GRUNTING. The gorilla was doing the same thing except it sounded gorillaish and not lionish. It was kind of like he was saying "UGH" but it was such a deep and GRISLY sound. It was just amazing! I know that this is how they communicate, so I wonder if he was trying to be like "Yo, this is my territory. Now, you're okay where you are, but come a little bit closer and I am going to charge."
Gorilla Chillian had gotten up from where he was just chillin and started walking around. Here's a wide shot of the two gorillas:
The one on the left is the one Mr. Grumpy Gills, and the one on the right is Gorillian Chillian who was in a GREAT mood! It was like he was the fun, cool brother and the other gorilla was like the older, responsible one that gets annoyed when humans come hang out, but the cool one is just like HAY Y'ALL.
Such a silly face:
LOL. I love that dude!
Their bodies are so cool.
Showin off the BOOTAY.
FAVORITE. Aaaaaahhhhhh, I miss you, gorillas. Is it just me or is his face SO kind here? It's crazy the looks they give you. SO human-like, it's pretty unbelievable. They are such beautiful creatures.
At one point, one of them started playing in a tree and I wish I got better pics/a video because it was SO COOL. Just like in the movies!! They just swing along from branch to branch like it's no big, Tarzan style. Sigh.
After about 30 minutes of gorilla gazing, we continued down the trail to that other area where you get to see them up close and personal behind glass.
This gorilla was not interested in talking to me.
It was too busy eatin'. Which, in addition to roarin', chillin', and singin' Phil Collins songs, is one of the main things I would spend my time doing if i was a gorilla. Heck, I spend a lot of time eating anyway. So, I understood.
It didn't really matter though, because THIS:
Was THE gorilla. The one that everyone was talking about. The mommy! Everyone who was at Animal Kingdom that day wanted to see the baby gorilla that this mother had given birth to on February 19. This place was so crowded that we had to wait to even get up to the glass! Man, I am so happy we go during low crowd times b/c I am too spoiled going in April and October to actually WAIT to see things at Disney. Anyway, the baby wasn't around at the moment, but we stood there and waited, hoping that it would come out or the mom would go get it or something. I kind of wanted to leave because I was like, gorillas are really protective, does this mom really want to bring her baby out and put it on display with all these people around? Apparently, humans shouldn't try to figure gorillas out because I was totally wrong! The CM nearby said that she brings the baby out all the time and that we should definitely stick around.
I think we waited, like, 20 minutes or so while the gorillas just sat there. And hey, I didn't mind, gorillas sitting in front of you doing nothing is still pretty cool. Anyway, then the mom got up and disappeared for a second. When she came back, she was sitting up on this rock LIKE A BOSS:
I love her "Hay Y'all!" look. Anyway, you can't really see it, but the baby is in her arms now!!!!
EXTREME CLOSE UP, WAAAAAAAAAAAH:
See it's teeny yittle head on the left? He's laying like a human baby would lay in him/her mother's arms. Sooo cute.
So then she jumped down from the rock:
And I started filming! Luckily, it was just the right time to get a decent shot of the baby in her arms!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEJHSDKJDHKSKS SO CUTE IT'S UNREAL. As Alexis Gosselin would say, "Him a yittle guy. Him a baby!" Except I think it may be a girl?
Here's the official Disney article from when the baby was born:

So then she just sat on this other rock for awhile, her back turned to us.
I love this one b/c you can see the little leg!
After like 10 minutes, she decided to take the baby back to wherever it is that gorillas take their babies:
You can see him peeking around her on the right! TOO MUCH CUTE.
And then they disappeared behind the rock. Sigh. Goodbye mom and baby gorillas!! I will miss you! The CM actually said that she had been nursing the baby a little bit when they were out here, and that's probably what she had gone to go do. OH IT WAS ALL SO AMAZING!! My mom and I just kind of looked at each other and said with our eyes, "This rocks and Disney rocks and life rocks and gorillas rock, OH MY GOD."
Up next: Another very successful safari through the savannahs of Kilimanjaro! Except for the whole having to cut it short because of the poachers thing.
