The Aussietravellers Adventures continue... Updated - Day 26 - Part 1

Loving the updates. Good for you making sure you had your room request sorted. I'm feeling so bad for you being so sick, even though I know as you type this you are recovered. 50's Prime Time Diner is the best. We saw the old lady :lmao:.

Oh I'm glad you saw that old lady, it is just an absolute crack up watching her (and even more of a crack up following her to your table! They almost need drinks service along the way as it takes so long :rotfl2: )

I really was quite sick, but I didn't stop, just took stuff to bring down my temp and had antibiotics with me so started those for my chest. Really when you are away, I just didn't want to miss anything so just kept plodding along :rotfl2: I would have these horrendous coughing fits, where I literally could not stop coughing and people would be looking at me and I know they were thinking that I should nick off and so they don't catch it as that's what I would have been thinking. I would often hear somebody sick and think to myself "oh will you just go away and go to bed, I don't want to catch your bug" :rotfl2:. I do actually still have a horrendous chest infection, it hasn't healed yet, but the fever has gone. DS has it now too and wait for the reports on our last two days when his started :scared1::scared1::scared1: It was terribly embarassing! He has to go to the Dr tomorrow as he is quite sick now. But that's all to come!

Oh no!!!!!!!! I really do feel for you about being sick. Our whole family was sick in the lead up to our trip and I was in a constant state of panic trying to get everyone well. It really isn't fair is it. I truly hope you both get better soon.

Wow, the wrong thread to read before I'm about to cook dinner - those cakes...the steaks...!

That waterpark looked insane, how awesome! Although I can't say I would have been impressed with the snakes and bugs, urgh!

Thank you for such an amazing, informative trip report...I have enjoyed reading every moment and it felt like I was there!

Hope you all feel better soon.

Another great report! I'm so impressed that you kept going being as sick as you were! My DH got sick in San Francisco and took to bed and it ruined our time there :(. You have such a great attitude :).

I didn't book 50s Prime Time because my kids are such fussy eaters and I didn't think they'd appreciate the theming. I thought the waitresses would scare the pants off them! After your report though, I'll definitely add it to the list for next time! :)

50's is really fun! The good thing is, they do seem to react only to those who react to them. If you are shy, if a child is shy they don't seem to play up with you or the shy one. They are obviously very well trained to only react and play up to those who want it and to leave the quieter, more reserved people alone. Our visit earlier in the trip, they didn't play up with us at all but did to others around us, but they could see that we were being entertained as we couldn't stop laughing at what they were doing to others. Even at our lunch that was in my last report, the waiter didn't do or say anything to me at all, my friends DH was the main one to get his attention and a couple (but not all) of the kids, the kids who gave him attitude, he gave attitude back :rotfl:

This morning we went down to the Captains Grill at YC again for a yummy breakfast as usual.

Then it was off to Epcot.

We met up with our friends and went over and got fastpasses for Soarin. We then went over and joined the line for Test Track. Now I am not supposed to go on many rides, but I decided to go on this one, it is only really a bit of speed, not really a rollercoaster. So we lined up. Funny on this ride I was given one of those little red cards on a cord. They are used to judge the length of the line so to keep the wait times outside the ride accurate. When you go in, they scan this card and then you hand this card to the person just before you board the ride and they scan it too. What I didn't understand is that the family before our group also had one of these :confused3 Then the mischevious side of me appeared and we were laughing as I mentioned, how about I pass this card back down the line (so once scanned at the other end it makes the line look longer). Anyway that was my amusement during my wait, wondering what chaos I would cause if I did do that. But I didn't :rotfl2: I resisted the temptation, it was just a thought :rotfl2:

So the standby line was about half an hour long and we were on the ride! Oh it was fun! So nice doing a little thrill ride being banned from them and having to sit on the side all the time.

It was then time for lunch (time flies when you are having fun) and we seperated as we had an ADR at Coral Reef. We considered not going and going with our friends, but the wave was calling me, the yummy yummy wave. We all had caeser salad, mine was with prawns (shrimp) and it was yummy. Then came the wave for dessert. I had worn my birthday badge that day and so this time I got the wave with a birthday chocolate banner.

This place is lovely, two great meals there and it's a lot of fun sitting and watching the fish, sharks, sting rays, turtles in the massive tank. They also give you a sheet of paper, that has different species of fish and rays to check off when you see them. Personally I had a hard time telling the difference between the different rays etc but DS seemed to think he did :rotfl:

After we had finished lunch we headed to world showcase as our friends were wandering around there, we were getting texts as to which countries they were passing and we were not catching them, so we decided to change strategy and go the other way, so rather than chasing them around world showcase we would eventually run into them if we went the other way. This worked prefectly and we ran into them in Germany. We went and got some fudge from Germany's caramel shop. Oh YUM! I do recommend a visit to the caramel shop, there is everything you can imagine with a caramel spin. Cupcakes, fudge, cookies, chocolates, and much more. I have a photo of a cupcake from there from a visit later in the trip, I will post it in that report.

We then continued around world showcase, had a churro at mexico, then headed to Soarin for our fastpass. Awesome ride as usual. Now I have never been in a row other than row three for this ride at this stage. At Disneyland and WDW I seem to keep getting row three, which suits me as I am a little afraid of heights so being lower mentally makes me more at ease, as I do love this ride!

After that they all went on Mission Space and not the light version. Now my DS does not do rollercoasters or scary rides, we he has never done them before this trip. Just doesn't do them, I had trouble getting him on Soarin at Disneyland, but when I eventually did he loved it. So he went on test track and loved it! And...... he went on mission space :scared1: And he loved it! It was actually just my friend and myself who stayed off that one, sitting outside waiting. We then went and got fastpasses for Test Track and planned to leave the park now for an afternoon rest, as we had to return for dinner at Chefs des France at 6.30pm. We had been there before but our friends had not and I was really excited as I love it here (can you tell my life revolves around food :lmao: )

Back to the hotel we went and for the first time this trip we had towel animals :cool1: They were sooo cute. Two elephants and some other creature.

DSC03403.jpg

When we were on our way back to Epcot, we saw this gorgeous wedding taking place. Loved the carriage, this was outside the Yacht Club Resort.
DSC03386.jpg

After our afternoon rest our friends returned and we walked to Chefs des France. I love staying in the Epcot resort area for convenience to Epcot restaurants! We didn't have much of a wait and were shown to our table. I can not remember what everybody had, but I had the French Onion soup again, this is soooo yummy. Then I had the macaroni cheese with gruyere. I have to admit I was not a massive fan.
DSC03404.jpg

It wasn't terrible but it lacked flavour which I was expecting more with the cheese as I love gruyere cheese. Anyway I still bobbled much of it down. The baguette they serve also at the start of the meal is just delicious, freshly baked and a real baguette, not like american bread that seems a little sweet to me.
I didn't have dessert as I have a nut allergy and nothing was ok for me to eat, but instead after dinner I went to the dessert and champagne food and wine festival stall and got myself the yummy dessert sensation. No I must tell the truth! I actually got two chocolate dessert sensations! :lmao:

The others went over and went on test track and my friend and I wandered around Mouse Gear, the massive shop. It was really getting quite cool at night now which was a surprise as it seemed to turn cold suddenly in the evenings. They were warm a few days ago, now were cold.

By the time they finished on test track and found us in the shop illuminations was over and the park was closing. Of course everybody was heading out of the park and we were heading back in the opposite direction to the Epcot exit. This was a massive task as the massive herd of people heading in the opposite direction to us was challenging to get through, but we did it :cool1: We made it through and back to the hotel, ready for sleep and another busy day at WDW to come.

I loved walking to Epcot from The Dolphin as well, it was perfect. We also walked to DHS early one morning. It will be hard to stay somewhere else and not be able to walk.

You have me considering so many different restaurants for next time now!

I was reading about the "official wait time checker" job on someone else's TR. Gotta love the Aussie sense of humour in comparison to her....

She "rushed" through the up front displays to get to the ride so that she could accurately represent the wait time....even though she wanted to linger and look.
I'm with you AussieTravellers. I would have wanted to wreck havoc on the Disney system...I wonder if this is what they do with TSM????

Waiting for your food porn....but I'll be on a plane when you finally get your monthly allowance :cool1:!

DS had the mac and cheese at Les Chef. We thought it was dry. Thankfully DH had the ratatouille, so we could scoop some of the tomato/marinara sauce from the ratatouille to moisten the mac & cheese.

I'm really enjoying your trip report Aussietravellers - thanks so much for sharing with us! I hope you're feeling better soon! :goodvibes

What a sweet story about the old lady!
I'm surprised you managed to do so much while being unwell. As always, ready to hear more and eagerly awaiting your account to reset so I can see the photos!

We were served by a really old man at a hat shop at MK. He was so lovely. It really is nice that Disney employ people that age.

Yes it really is nice the way Disney employ those due to retire (or past retirement age :rotfl2: ) and those with disabilities.

Well I'm surprised I did so much too, but I kind of just kept plodding along. I think if I stopped then I would not have been able to get back out there :rotfl: Three days until the account resets :cool1:

Thanks SnowWhite. I was actually just starting to improve (almost three weeks it's been) but have woken up this morning and my chest is getting bad again, looks like I have picked up another virus on top of the one I have just as it was getting better :headache:

My mac & cheese wasn't dry luckily, just a bit bland. I do have a photo of it, I'll post it in a few days (which you will see when you get back, so exciting, you are almost up up and away  )

Oh we ate at so many restaurants, probably because we do love TS over CS, so certainly tried lots of them in 3 weeks.

It is the best spot isn't it around that lake (don't know what it's called). How was the Dolphin? I was looking at that and the Swan and wondered what they were like, they look lovely. Does it still feel Disney not staying at a disney run resort, they still use the buses etc so I can't see what the difference would be to staying at a disney run resort. Are the prices better there than say BC/YC/BWI I was even looking at them online as being starwood resorts I wouldn't mind trying either Swan or Dolphin.

I haven't stayed in a Disney property so I can't compare :confused3 It was a lovely resort though. Like your experience, our room was miles away from anything though! It took us ages to walk from the lift to our room.

We had the Disney transportion and the EMH privileges but that was about it. We couldn't use a dining plan or Magical Express (two things I would have liked to have taken advantage of ).

We got a rate of US$165 per night, but that was part of a group booking (for the North American Irish Dancing Championships). I'm not sure what the normal rate is, but I was happy with that.

So we were back at Animal Kingdom today.
DSC03424.jpg

We had another ADR at Tusker House before park opening. We were glad about this as we didn't see all of the characters last time, being in a back room they seemed to come to us last and even after being at the restaurant an hour, we still had only seen two characters. We missed Goofy so wanted to see Goofy this time. We didn't do the Donald photo outside this time either. We already had the photo from the other day so didn't need another and the photo queue is a mile long so we just went straight to our table

Now to our shock we were seated at exactly the same table as we were the time before. This was becoming a bit of a pattern with us. At Cape Mays, both visits there so far we were at the same table (so had to ask characters to stand another direction so the photos didn't look the same :rotfl2: ). So I asked at Tusker House if we could please sit somewhere else, we didn't want to be at the same table, stuck in the middle of the room. So we went over the other side of the room, so at least our photos didn't look the same :thumbsup2

Breakfast was good as usual. We have eaten here a few times now and it's always been a great meal. Great food, great character interaction and good service.
DSC03412.jpg

Donuts for breakfast :rolleyes1 (they are Krispy Kremes :cloud9: )
DSC03413.jpg

We were meeting our friends in the park today but they were not there yet. So after breakfast we went and got fastpasses to Killamjaro Safari for later in the day. The standby wait was only 5 minutes at the time too so we jumped in line and were on in a flash. What is wonderful about the safari is that it's different every time you do it. Different drivers, animals doing different things.

We then caught the train over to Rafikis Planet Watch, didn't stay there long. DS wanted to stay longer but our friends had arrived and were over at Dinoland so we hopped on the train back to the park. Oh the train it was so embarassing, I had a massive coughing fit! I just could not stop coughing, had a terrible itch in my throat and it just went on and on, until I almost threw up (but I didn't THANK GOODNESS :rotfl: ), but the poor people sitting in front of me on the train, must have been listening to this person behind them, with the worst cough ever, wishing that the coughing person would just jump out the back window and go away :rotfl: I was so embarassed but unfortunately couldn't do anything about it.

Over we went to Dinoland. i didn't get much done today in the ride or show department because of my torn artery and my DS who was normally afraid of all rides that are not a carousel :rotfl: actually went on and wanted to go on more scary rides.

So we went over to Dinosaur and it was closed due to technical difficulties. The CM's didn't know how long it would be for, so we went over and got fastpasses, then lingered around debating on where we were going and they decided to go back to Primeval Whirl. But they time all the debating had been, we looked back and the CM's who had been blocking the entrance due to the closure had gone. So they all raced in to ride the ride. My friend and I wanted for all of them in the shop and when they came out, they were going on Primeval Whirl again.

After some wandering around it was time for lunch at Yak and Yeti. We were all really looking forward to lunch, our friends also loved Yak and Yeti and we had such a good meal the other week. Anyway, when we got in and got to our table I started chirping "NO WAY" :rotfl: We were at the same table as we were at the other day. Now I just could not understand how on earth we kept ending up at the same table. Like these restaurants are huge and we go to different restaurants and they keep seating us at the same table, by sheer coincidence! Anyway we ordered and the food was just not as good this time as last time :sad1: Maybe because we had just been to PF Changs a couple of days before and had had the same food (honey chicken, chicken rice, lettuce cups) but the food was no where near as good, which was a little disappointing. Our friends also thought the food wasn't as good as when they last went, but also thought maybe having PF Changs in our memories, it didn't compare.

So after lunch we went over to Expedition Everest.
DSC03438.jpg

My DS would not go on it, so he and I sat and watched the others go on the ride. After that it was time to go on Kali river rapids. Well it was another diamond warning ride, but i was going on this one. I didn't want to miss the fun all day. So I was expecting to get wet, but we got absolutely soaked. I was wringing the water out of my top and shorts for ages after. But in saying that it was so much fun, so funny, getting so drenched.

So after our drenching my DS decided that he wanted to brave Expedition Everest, so my friend and I went back over to Dinosaur to get the photo from earlier in the day and did a little shopping along the way whilst the others went on Expedition Everest again, and again and again (as there wasn't a wait) With the park closing at 5.00pm it was almost time and so we decided to leave the park.

I took one of our friends daughters with us whilst they went shopping. We went back to the hotel to get changed as even thought time had gone by, we were still drenched from the Kali river rapids ride.

So we took the bus back to YC, got changed and started walking to Epcot for our ADR at Via Napoli. We ran into a photopass photographer along the way, outside the YC so had some photos taken. When we got to the entrance of Epcot my friends DD's pass was registering as invalid. I said that's impossible, she has just used it at AK and I knew they had park hoppers. Then the penny dropped. They had a terrible room and location at SSR and had moved that day. After I left them they were going back to get their new room at SSR before shopping and I realised that they would have issued them new keys :headache: So her park ticket would be on the KTTW card and not on the one that I had :headache: Bummer, I was so looking forward to Via Napoli. So where would we go.

We ended up heading to Beaches and Cream
DSC03443.jpg

(ok, these are my very favourite milkshakes at WDW, so I would have to go and torture myself and have a milkshake). There was a ridiculous wait as usual (even though the restaurant wasn't even half full) I have to say that I found this to be a very very frustrating part of eating at WDW TS restaurants. You would arrive somewhere, have a 10 to 30 minute wait (sometimes longer) and you would get into the restaurant to find it only 1/3 to 1/2 full!!!!! Like what I don't understand is they virtually don't pay their staff anyway, the customer pays in tips, why not just employ more wait staff :confused3 It baffles me!

Anyway the kids went into the arcade to play (which is right beside Beaches and Cream), whilst I sat outside waiting for our table. About 20 or so minutes later our table was ready. We all had hotdogs, milkshakes and I ordered bottled water. They were little bottles and came out opened with straws. Only problem is they were frozen! Like mine was over half frozen but my friends DD, hers was probably about 85% frozen! She had finished the fluid (in about 5 seconds) and all that remained was ice. So I had to call the waitress and tell her that we couldn't drink our drinks (milkshakes hadn't arrived, they take a while) as they were frozen. She simply said, oh yes, the refridgerator must be too cold :confused3 :rolleyes1 Oh do you think was my thought :rotfl: Anyway she was about to walk away and I said, that we couldn't drink these, the aircon was freezing, they were not going to thaw anytime soon as they were too frozen, if they were a little icy, then yes, but they were like one massive block of ice. So she said "don't you want those then" I said "well no, we can't drink them" So off she went and bought about 6 bottle back  all not frozen, but didn't take the frozen ones away, then our milkshakes arrived. Now anybody who has been to Beaches and Cream will know that the tables are not very big. So you stick 9 bottles of water, two milkshake glasses plus two of the silver milkshake containers along with the condement container that was on the table, there wasn't any room for food.

Anyway we guzzled down the water and when they came with the food, we had to take bottles off and hold them until they put food down then they took them away. The hotdogs were nice and the milkshakes were sensational! Truely the best at WDW.

After dinner the kids went back to the arcade for a little while, they each got a prize with their tickets and back to the room we went and watched the illuminations fireworks. Just after that my friend called to say they were almost back at the YC, so I took their DD down when they arrived.

So another day at WDW is over. The days are going really fast now. Only a week to go until we go home :sad1:

:scratchin Just as well tables have legs. That SAME TABLE must be tired from all the walking to follow you round all the restaurants in the different parks and resorts if you keep getting it.

I wonder if you would have met up with the SAME TABLE if you had made it to Via Napoli? :rotfl:

Another great update. I'm sad that I'm going to have to wait almost 2 weeks before I get to see the photos :sad1:.

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Maybe the table liked us. I should have worded that better, will go and change that later.

We seem to get the same table at each individual restaurant as we had had when we had previously dined there and it was just funny that it happened at two meals in a row. It didn't bother me other than it was just bizarre! Like I couldn't understand the sheer fluke of dining in the same restaurant a second (or third) time and being put at the same table as we had sat before when these places seat hundreds of people. Freaky!

Sorry I can't add photos sooner, before you go :sad1: Wish photobucket would do my account reset a few days earlier. Three days till the reset (not that I'm counting :rotfl: )

Please don't reword it. It's not you....it's ME and what I like to consider my warped sense of humour. :rotfl2:

Please don't reword it. It's not you....it's ME and what I like to consider my warped sense of humour. :rotfl2:

Actually now I think about it, I had the feeling of being followed on my 3 weeks at WDW. I would turn around suddenly to see who it was and there would be nobody there. Nobody except a table So the table must have been stalking me :lmao:

You know it is good that disney does employee the older people, but it really made me stop and think why are some of these people working. I mean if they wanted to that would be a different story but scratch a little under the surface and it makes me grateful to live in Australia. Our older people are looked after way better, why because they don't have to pay thousands of dollars a year in health insurance to survive. If you work in America the employer pays for your health insurance even if you only work part time. This is why we see so many oldies at disneyworld. To be honest I thought to myself I am glad that my grandparents never have to worry about working at there ages being in their 80's as some at disney sure looked that old! I guess it is the nurse in me but one old lady that was behind the counter at the disney store had parkinsons she was shaking all over the place I just felt she should of been home and someone looking after her! Don't get me wrong I think it is good of disney to employee them because I could imagine it would be hard to find a job especially in these hard times of the economy. But after DD7 being in hospital and having to pay upfront for it now going through insurance to see if they will pay me back. It made me realise we are the lucky country here we really are the grass is not always greener and all that. You guys know what I mean?
