That platypus is LOOKING at me! A Memorial Day 2012 Trip Report TR FINISHED 7/23!!!

* I finally booked my flight for next month! I just accepted that the prices weren't really going down unless it was a really odd time/day flight. The only real deals were flights on weekdays and I absolutely have to return on Sunday so I can work on Monday, so I didn't have much of a choice! A bit more than I would've liked to pay but at least I don't have to worry about it anymore!
* I feel you on the maturity thing. One of my friends started dating a girl that's 19, and you think you're not that far removed from that age, and they're adults so there shouldn't be a huge difference, right? She's a great girl but just certain things she says or does remind me, "oh right, you're 19."
* Love that pillow, it's perfect for you!
* Cali Grill is another I still haven't tried! As you probably know, while I've always loved visiting Disney I've only become obsessed within the past year or two. So previously we would do almost all quick service, and if we did sit downs it was always in the parks! So I have a lot of exploring to do when it comes to eating in every restaurant!
* The food looks so good. I'm starving.
* What an awesome server! He seems like a great guy and really made the experience super special!
* I also hope it's doesn't go under the rumored refurb, and if it does I hope it's still excellent since I haven't gotten the chance to try it yet.

~Ok, I work at GMR til 3:15 on Tuesday, so I'm gonna head over to look at the shirt right after. I'll text you then!

•Oh, I'm so happy to hear that you had a great server at Cali Grill. We did too--We loved it there!
•Mmm, look at those dishes! Delish!
•I will be DEVASTATED if they close/refurb the restaurant. I don't want it to change.

I always have the same issue with contacts! Happened to me on Saturday! I love that pillow (and to answer your question from awhile back, I don't have the HM license plate holder - I have like 5 other Disney ones and somehow do not have a HM one! Crazy!). And Ron was our server when we dined at the CG last November! He was amazing and gave us recipes as well! He also gave us his business card to contact him if we ever had trouble making a reservation at CG. I need to find that! Although, they may close for renovations before we have a chance to go again... who knows!

Oh interesting! Do you have a trip report going? I'd love to read it too. :goodvibes

I just caught up on your report and noticed I never responded. I was going to do a TR and always have the best of intentions but its been a madhouse since we got home. And I booked a trip for a week or so from now. My first ever solo trip so I'm busy prepping for that, trying to finish up DD's softball season (DS is thankfully done), get DH packed for his trip, and this week is VBS at church so time is just flying by. I've not even had time to even think about our last trip much less doing a report.

I keep meaning to start a pre trip report for my solo shindig but havn't got around to that yet either. I will, I keep telling myself I will anyway. I figure I will have more down time to during my solo trip so I may do some live TR updates. I am just excited to have another countdown and can't believe I'm getting a solo trip. DH will be off in Montana on a mission trip on a reservation, the kids will be back at thier moms for vacation (my steps) and the option of me staying home and possibly wrecking another bathroom when I OD on HGTV was too much for DH to handle so he is all on board for the solo. :goodvibes

I look forward to hearing more about your trip.

I just caught up :) I want the pillows that say "pardon our pixie dust" and "this area is being refurbished for your future enjoyment". Love them!

Yay for seeing Andrea! Boo for the TSM FP line!! What in the world? Loving all the pictures!!!

I'm glad you had good luck getting to the Contemporary!! That's awesome! I was sad I was in WDW and didn't have it this week :( I just love it there.

I had a similar situation this week. I had got DH a few things, and me a bunch of things... then DH said he wanted a few other things and I had pretty much depleted spending funds getting pins and at the spa :rolleyes1 Whoops!

More please!

I can never nap. It sucks, lol.

Love your princess crown-- gorg!

LOL at Chris! HIGHlarious!

OMG. The HM pillow is awesome! Love it!

FOOD porn! Delicious! You guys had a great view!! Hmm.. the Sister Wives sound.. inneresting..

YAY-- can't wait to hear more!!

My princess crown was FREE from AKL. They don't give out free princess crowns at the values... justttt sayin.

So it's been so long since I've had a chance to update that I think you might already be in Orlando!

You really need to go to Cali Grill. I'm SURE if/when they refurb it (I am hoping that rumor doesn't come to pass too!) it will be excellent. I mean, it's the Cali Grill!

~Ok, I work at GMR til 3:15 on Tuesday, so I'm gonna head over to look at the shirt right after. I'll text you then!

I got your text, and now you're in Tokyo!

•Oh, I'm so happy to hear that you had a great server at Cali Grill. We did too--We loved it there!

I don't want it to change either. I don't think I can mentally handle that.

GAHH!!! I think that's so cool that you had Ron too! He was seriously fabulous, right??? I wish he had given US his business card. Pout pout. (Kidding!)

Chris wanted me to get the "Pardon our Pixie Dust" pillow for our bedroom because our bedroom is always a disaster. :lmao:

You need to take pictures of all of your purchases. I'm a creeper and I love looking at other peoples' souvenirs!

So, um, is anyone still there? :goodvibes

I have been SO busy since I last updated. I have gotten through TWO weeks of Institute, and I'm not exactly sure how I did it. Only 2 weeks, 5 days left, and I am PRAYING that they fly by. Institute is NOT fun (it's actually kind of hell-ish), and being away from DH absolutely sucks.

So, I am going to stop thinking about it and start remembering a happier time. And I get to make ADRs for our NYE shindig tomorrow morning!

Day 3, Part 3: In Which I Forget to Take Pictures

We hopped on the monorail and headed to the MK. The park looked busy, but manageable. Our first stop was the old Firehouse to get more Sorcerer's cards... and we got cards #1 and #2, which apparently are pretty hard to find! (And #2 is the Belle card, and she's my favorite.) We played the game in Adventureland for awhile, and we were pretty surprised by the amount of adults who were playing. It made us feel a lot less silly. In between playing, we also went on POTC for the third? fourth? time.

We checked out the wait for Splash, but it was around an hour, and I just don't wait an hour for Splash. BTMRR was in soft open, but we just weren't in the mood. So we headed to the Mansion!

We did the Mansion, and then we did the Mansion again... but the second time, it got really clogged up. We were actually still in the Stretching room when the effect went into reverse. It was very unsettling to see the room go back up instead of down. Very unsettling.

Because of the unexpected cloggage, we got out of HM 15 minutes later than we expected, which meant we almost had to watch Wishes from the Liberty Square bridge... which just isn't where I like to watch Wishes. I am a very picky person when it comes to Wishes; Wishes is one of the two things that made me rediscover my love of Disney when I was 16.

Anyway, we managed to squeeze into a so-so spot on Main Street. But, a woman then tried to squeeze in next to us where there just wasn't any room. She was standing outside of the white line, and a CM came up to her and told her she had to be inside of the white line. She put one foot in and looked defiantly at him. He repeated that it was a fire hazard, and she needed to be inside of the white line. She yelled at him for awhile, but she eventually managed to find a place. I hate rude people.

After Wishes, we crawled to Tomorrowland, and they were actually letting people out through the Tomorrowland exit--- it was a crowded MK night, to say the least. We ended up waiting 10 minutes to ride TTA, but we just needed to sit down for awhile. From there, we headed over to Monster's Inc (AKA the attraction with the acronym that the DIS censors)...

...and there was a hilarious little kid during the show. The dad was asked some questions, but the little kid kept putting his stuffed Perry the Platypus in the frame. He even made it "fart" into the microphone. :lmao: I love little one sometimes! It's probably important to mention that this was not the platypus who was looking at us.

After the Inc, Chris and I were ready for some more food, so we grabbed sundaes from the ice cream shop and found some seats inside of Casey's to sit and eat. (Don't flame me, please.) AND, as we ate, we saw Jennifer and Charley again, who told us to wake up! :lmao: (It was around midnight by then and I guess we looked a little dead.) After the ice cream, I decided I wanted to go look for a bracelet I had seen in one of the stores but hadn't bought, and I instructed Chris to stay right there...

...but when I got back, he was gone!!! I panicked. I went back to the store and he wasn't there either. I was cursing him underneath my breath on Main Street, and I didn't have my phone to call him to find out where he was. THANKFULLY, when I got back, he was at Casey's, but he still got himself yelled at. He told me not to make a scene, and then I yelled a little more, but then I laughed. :lmao: I think i was just tired.

We went over to JC, and we had a decent enough skipper. After, we went on POTC one more time to say goodbye. Then we headed on Philharmagic and, oddly, the carrousel, which I hadn't done since I was probably 10 or so.

We hobbled over to the mansion so I could say goodbye to it, and then it was time to leave. We were both exhausted. I was even too tired to cry on the corner of Main Street like I always do when I have to say goodbye to the Magic Kingdom. We ended up leaving the MK at exactly 1:59--- not 3am like we had planned, but close enough!

We ended up not having a long wait for the AKL bus thankfully. Surprisingly, when we got back, there were zebras outside eating! (I hope they didn't have indigestion the next day.) We fell asleep pretty quickly: it had been a long, productive, good last full day.

But it's not over yet!

•I'm still here! I'm actually on the new DIS iPhone app and it alerted me of your update! Pretty cool!!!
•I can't believe you saw the HM unstretch...not cool.
•I just tried Monsters Inc for the first time this past trip and LOVED it!!!
•Oooh, ice cream at midnight, yummy!
•yAy for seeing Jennifer and Charlie again!
•hooray for booking NYE trip ressies!!
•can't wait to figure out this platypus title. ;)

If and when I find Ron's card, I'll hook you up (he was probably all out when you saw him ;))! I can't believe you saw the HM room un-stretch! How bizarre and definitely unsettling. I seriously can't wait for the platypus story! And I can't wait to hear about your NYE ADRs!

I hope the Institute gets better or at least that the rest of it flies by!

Oohhh I hope you do some live posts! I would love to read them. When is it??

I leave bright and early Saturday morning should be on property by 10am. I can't wait but have sooo much to do to get ready. I get to do online check in today and I'm fretting back and forth on my room requests. I never do requests just take pot luck but now that they put all them on the online check in form it's maddness! Oh well I could have worse problems than decided between which building to stay in. :goodvibes

I hope to post some live updates. I plan on breaking during the heat of the day and when I don't have to work (I'm a Disney travel agent so I've gotta work a little while I'm there) I'll check in with some crowd pictures and updates.

* I'm still here! Not quite in Orlando yet - next week! ;)
* And the Cali Grill refurb was announced today I think - it'll be closed for the first half of 2013. So that means I definitely won't get to try it as it is now. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that it will still be just as good or better when it re-opens!
* Where's your favorite spot to view Wishes? Last time we did the dessert party which was awesome, but it's been a very long time since I viewed Wishes just from a "normal" location!
* I love Monsters Inc., and it's stuff like what you mentioned that just makes it so funny, even when you've seen it before!!
* I think Jennifer's TR is at just about the same spot as yours - when I started reading I was like, "I thought I already read about MK EMH - oh wait, that was in Jennifer's!" and then you described running into her! So funny to read about it from this end.
* Like Danielle, I'm also waiting to see how the platypus comes into play!

Just Caught back up!!!

Your pictures and Desriptions of Drinking around the world are perfect and just what I hoped for/imagined they would be :)

The lady to told you congratualtions :confused3
I feel your pain... I was 17 and in about a months time I had 3 different customers ask me when I was due and what I was having... at work...
(I later realized it must've been the same shirt I was wearing on all three occasions, so I gave the shirt to my mom :lmao:

Another Dooney!!! Do you feel the jealousy through the computer?

Oh and Dresses!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some dresses and wear them all the time. So much easier and more comfortable then shorts/pants and a top. Just one piece.

One word ZEBRAS!!!
(Maybe once I get married I'll stay at AKL for my honeymoon... either there or POLY)

WOW! I've never seen the Stretching Room go back. NOT okay.

Sounds like you were pooped but that you had lots of fun!!

Oooh, it's not over?! YAY!

Ha! The platypus isn't THAT exciting. No worries. :P

Did you end up doing some updates? I was so busy I was off the boards for forever!!!

Annddd now you're back! Woo!!!

my favorite spot to view Wishes is from... about 3/4 of the way down Main Street. It's difficult to get there though if you don't like to watch the night parades, which we don't. I'm also ridiculously picky.

Just Caught back up!!!

Oooh, it's not over?! YAY!

Nope, not over!!!

*******
I'm homeee! Institute was hellish, but it's over and I MADE IT!!! WOO!!! I will probably have an update posted soon-ish, if anyone is still out there. I need to get this done so I can get started on my December PTR! :D

Day 4: The Platypus FINALLY looks at us

Chris and I didn't even attempt to make rope drop on our last day. It was Memorial Day, we had been at the Magic Kingdom since 1:59am the night before and, gosh darnit, we were sleepy! We woke up, stumbled around, threw all of our belongings into our luggage (somehow everything fit despite my shopping sprees), and dropped our belongings off at the bell desk.

Before we left, I took some pictures around the resort.

Our room! Farewell!

DSCN0732.jpg

A bit creepy, no?!

We headed over to Epcot, mostly because we had a lunch reservation at Le Cellier. Epcot was an absolute madhouse. The line for Soarin was already over an hour and a half long. We decided to go do Nemo again because, well, I wanted to hear the nerdy little fish say "NEMO IS SWIMMING OUT TO SEAAAAAAAAA."

...But then we saw this.

DSCN0733.jpg

Oh, let me put that in perspective for you.

DSCN0734.jpg

Why yes, the line for The Seas with Nemo and Friends was out the door! And that ride has one of the longest hidden queues! We just laughed and decided to look at the fish instead. We walked in through the gift shop and I was glad we did because they had the bracelet I had been searching for the night before!!

DSCN0736.jpg

See, I just love that it has the names of the attractions in the MK on it. It's slightly juvenile for an almost 25 year old teacher to wear everyday, but I don't really mind.

We wandered around The Seas for about an hour, and we made friends with an adorable little sea turtle. (Well, he wasn't all that little, but you know what I mean.) We followed him around for awhile and we named him "Hurtle" which is a combination of "Hurley" (from LOST) and "turtle." We also just sat and watched some fish for awhile and tried to figure out what they were saying and made up dialogue for them. I'm fairly certain we looked a little out of our minds.

We waved goodbye to the fish, and headed to lunch!

DSCN0735.jpg

Chris and I have been to Le Cellier a lot, so it's a familiar favorite. We ordered our favorite appetizer

DSCN0737.jpg

which was delicious as usual. I had their house burger, which is really good (and I'm picky about burgers). The fries were, well, french fries.

DSCN0738.jpg

Chris had some sort of steak (all steak looks and tastes the same to me--- blech) and he decided to try poutine for the first time. He thought it was delicious; I thought it was disgusting.

DSCN0739.jpg

But, after just a few bites, the rest of the food from the trip caught up with us. We had a hard time scarfing down our food! Halfway through lunch, Chris stopped and turned to me.

"Jack! That platypus is looking at us!"

DSCN0740.jpg

The little kids at the table across from us had unknowingly placed their Perry plush in our direction! I lost it. The family heard us laughing, and then the little kids kept turning Perry towards us for the rest of the meal--- sometimes, of course, his butt was facing us too. I snapped that picture on the sly, and I made sure not to get the kiddos in it, but I am pretty sure I looked like a creeper. Alas!

Our meal at Le Cellier was good, but I think I'm going to take a break from it for awhile. It just didn't seem *special* anymore because we've been there so often lately. No big deal--- it's not going anywhere, and neither are we.

Even though it was still early, we decided to head back to the hotel after lunch. It was just far too hot, and far too crowded, to get anything done. We walked slowly, mostly because I was both ready and not-so-ready to leave Walt Disney World for the next seven months.

DSCN0752.jpg

We relaxed at Kidani for a few hours. We tried to go have a drink by the pool bar, but as soon as we did the heavens opened up and the pool closed! (I guess God didn't want us to drink.) We eventually boarded DME...

DSCN0754.jpg

And as the video played "M-I-C-See-you-real-soon!" I bawled. Leaving WDW is so hard for me.

Annddd that's it! Don't worry, I still have my final thoughts to type up! (Which I think I'll do now.)

Memorial Day Trip 2012: Final Thoughts

Short Trips are worth it. Admittedly, I was concerned if going for three nights would be "worth it" for us. Wisconsin isn't exactly close to Florida, and I was concerned that it would be a waste of money. I didn't feel like that at all. While I would have loved to stay for 12 nights like I did in January, 3 nights in WDW beats 3 nights anywhere else. Was it cheap? No. Would I do it again? Absolutely--- and I am, for NYE!

Reading Selection Matters. On the way to Florida and on the way home from Florida I read the two latest Kingdom Keepers books. While these aren't exactly literary masterpieces, they really helped get me excited for my trip.

Memorial Day Weekend is Doable, I hadn't been in WDW for Memorial Day weekend before, and I was concerned that the crowds would be intense. As long as you get there for rope drop, you'll be fine! Unless of course, you're trying to get on TSMM, which brings me to...

The FastPass system needs to be fixed. I had never been a FP cheater before, so the new policy doesn't impact me one bit. However, that TSMM line definitely reveals that there is something wrong with FP. I hope X-Pass fixes that.

Kidani? Meh. Chris and I weren't overly in love with Kidani. I thought the room was very pretty and rather large (definitely bigger than BLT, at least), but it's just so far removed from everything. Surprisingly, Chris said he likes SSR more than he likes Kidani, which is definitely my least favorite DVC resort. I would stay at Jambo again before I would stay at Kidani.

I really don't care about Broken Effects. While my post count isn't all that high, I am a huge Disboards lurker (and a Disney boards lurker in general). People are always complaining about broken effects--- and while I noticed some on this trip (Brer Rabbit, Blackbeard, and the scary fish in Nemo), they didn't take away from my experience at all. Just sayin!

I should take time and relax. This was my eighteenth trip to WDW, but it's kind of difficult to produce a real "number," especially because one of those trips was a month long trip. Regardless, I've been to WDW a lot, but I still operate at a commando pace. One of my new goals is to take some time to relax and enjoy the resort more. With our spankin' new DVC membership, NYE might be the trip for this!

I love not carrying my cell phone. When I go to WDW, I leave my cell phone at home. I LOVE this! I love not having to worry about who could possibly be calling me or emailing me about this or that. I did use Chris's phone a couple of time to talk to the Disbrides (a girl can only give up so much), but it just feels like a vacation without the cell phone.

Disney Merch is on the Rise! I feel like they're definitely starting to bring back more unique, thoughtful merch, which is just bad for my wallet. I love that they're finally making princess items for women. I wasn't the smallest little girl, so I was never able to have princess shirts. (And when I was little, kids' clothes weren't large like they are now!) I love that I am able to buy shirts with my favorite characters on them now that I am an adult.

Thanks for reading along, everyone! All in all it was a great trip, and I can't wait until it's December 29th!

Hi! I've been following along. What a fun trip you had, and i am so jealous of your d&b bags!!! Thanks for your opinion of short trips, my husband has been trying to get me to go on a short trip, and i dont want to! I've been afraid it will seem too short and even more depressing when yoy have to leave, but after reading abouy your trip, i might give it a try!!
