Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

QOTD - for me Fridy 13th is neither lucky nor unlucky. I love the spark people qotd that people are posting - keep them coming.

Hi Michele - thanks for the coaching! :)

I think I have a pet peeve about Friday the 13th. I hate that the first thing on the news in the morning is the cheesy anchors getting all "ooooh, bad luck!" about the day. And then whatever might go wrong that day has to be down to the fact that it's Friday the 13th. It drives me nuts, and while I am a somewhat superstitious person by nature, I'm just not that way about Friday the 13th. Of course, I have to say that tonight - tomorrow I drive us all 5 hours to grandma's house! ;)

XO
Liz

Drive safely!

And for everyone having issues with little weight loss or staying the same: remember its week 2. Week two is harder to lose than week one, or so they said on the BL show. I too had a weird scale thing. I have been weighing myself each morning, and I am this morning 1.6 lbs heavier than what I've weighed the last 2 mornings. GAHHHHHH! It is frustrating!

good morning everyone!

i actually got a decent amount of sleep last night. i made DH take over with the baby since i just HAD to get some rest. i slept pretty good until about 2am when i woke up extremely full and needed to relieve some pressure. of course, i think i expressed too much and at 5am i was back to feeling huge and lots of pressure again. :confused3 oh well, at least i got to just lay there and not have to deal with the baby.

Michele (RutgersAlum)...thanks for being our coach this week!!!

QOTD: i'm not too superstitious about friday the 13th. i DID go to elementary school with a girl who was born on friday the 13th. she had one blue eye and one brown eye. that's pretty much the only association with the date that i have!

Hey Mickeys you're so fine! ::MickeyMo

Nancy, thanks so much for coaching this week! Loved your questions even if I didn't get to respond to them all.

A big BL welcome to Michelle our new coach this week! :flower3:

Trying to do a little catching up -- it's been a crazy week.

Good luck to everyone on the weigh ins today. Just like on the BL show, week 2 is a tough one. Your fire and resolve may be waivering. Your body may be rebelling against the new healthy habits you are trying to enforce. The full moon may have influenced you. :hippie: Remember no matter what the scale says today, everything that you do to make your life healthier will pay off big time sooner or later!

Buffy, hope your DS is enjoying his new school! :goodvibes

Kristina, thanks for sharing all the sparkpeople quotes! :thumbsup2

Ok, still not feeling all that great...but I think I'm getting there. I can actually breathe thru my nose...LOL! My week has pretty blah diet wise. Though I've pretty much been eating soup and toast. Not sure what that will do for weigh in tomorrow. I have been drinking tons of water though...probably about 100 oz a day...makes my throat feel better...LOL!

Glad that you are feeling better! :flower3:

I'd head straight for whitewater snacks to see if the calico is still around. Feed her something.

[/IMG]

I'll see if I can find her and take a picture for you when I am there in a couple of weeks, Susan. :cat:

i can't believe another week is coming to a close...i'm not real hopeful for my WI tomorrow morning but who knows. I didn't stay on top of my journal during the day but stuck with meals i'd been eating, and then sitting here reading everyones posts I thought, well i'm just going to plug in what i ate and see how i did. surprisingly i was just on the mark for my calories for the day, so now i feel successful

Isn't that nice when you were being healthy all along and just didn't know it? You're doing great, Molli! :goodvibes

they were completely out of Quinoa. I couldn't believe it! I had to buy bagged red quinoa. We've never had it before so hopefully we like it.

Quinoa is the "hot" grain right now. They make some good ones at Animal Kingdom Lodge -- I'll see if I can find a recipe. It's very tasty.

Something that we discovered this week is Lundberg whole rice blend. It might be a western thing though.

Hi, Loser Mickeys!
I coach starting tomorrow:scared1:

Thanks for coaching this week! :flower3: It's a lot of fun and historically coaches have a good weigh in following their coaching week -- all that typing burns some serious calories! :thumbsup2

:wave2: Quick check in. Not sure when I will get here tomorrow.

Everyone have a great healthy Friday and make sure you make great choices for the weekend to lead you into next week.:cheer2:

Hi LTS! Nice to see you!

The formula is (weight in pounds) times .37 gives you your minimum protein requirements in grams. Example: 100 pound person needs over 37 g of protein a day.:teacher:

No real maximum, except generally capping out your calories.

Thanks for posting this! :thumbsup2

Howdy, I'm Michele, coach this upcoming week 1/13-1/19. Trying to post more this go-round in the BL challenge, but it's tough to get here with job/kids/activities etc. Real life interferes with my personal life!:rotfl: Anyway, lots of posts or not, please know that you all have already helped me stay motivated [a week longer than usual] this new year.

QOTD Friday 1/13: In the US, Friday the 13 is considered "unlucky." My mom, however, always told us growing up that it was a *lucky* day for our family--not sure if that was true or if she was using mom psychology on us to help us keep positive at the mere suggestion of bad luck... But does Friday the 13 carry any superstition, good or bad, for you?
Hoping we all get to report that Friday, 1/13/2012 is a :wizard:good luck day on the scale for all of us!

Go Rutgers!

Friday the 13th is just like any other day to me because I live with a couple of history nuts and have been informed ad nauseum about the historical reason it is considered a bad day. But I am a believer that the full moon makes people whacky! :hippie:

Jess, safe travels. :cool2:

Hey guys. I'm almost embarrassed to pop in because I have NOT done well this week at all. I have not gained any weight, but I have not lost any either. It has been a long, rough week and I'm glad its over for me. Kids are out of school tomorrow.

Hope to do better over the next few days and start working out again.

Carla, a maintain is a winner in my book every single time! ::yes:: Don't ever be embarrassed to pop on when you are struggling -- that is the time that you need the support this thread can give you the most! :flower3:

It's been a busy week and I've been super tired and I ended up with a maintain for the week. Some days you just need to rest and regroup. :hippie: So that is what I will be doing and trying to do a better job of keeping up here.

Good luck Mickeys! Be sure and include your team name in your PM to Sue. :smickey:

Thank you! I was way off! According to the formula I need 69.56 grams of protein per day. I am going to start keeping track. I wish there was a way in WW to go in and see how much protein I have tracked. Maybe there is... I will have to check. Thank you for the formula!
Welcome!

Not really. I think the whole lucky/unlucky thing is pretty hilarious, for the most part.

My WI this week was not great. I only lost .2 despite having a stellar week. I'm sure it was the steroids, but it was disappointmenting none the less. Oh well. Maybe next week will be better.
I lost similarly (ok, so my first weigh in was Wednesday, but still) Doesn't really help that I'm weighing to the nearest pound so it will show as no loss but on the positive, I know I feel good about the work I've been blessed to put in and feel really positive about how my numbers will look next week.

I guess I'll be spending a bit more time at the Y this coming couple of weeks as DH is OOT for work, and they'll watch the kids for as long as I stay in class. :rolleyes1

Oh, and I really have liked these "scripts." They help me rework how I think (which has been my main excuse/problem/hurdle to weight loss)
http://madetocrave.org/wp-content/uploads/HealthyEatingGoToScriptsFinal.pdf

If any of you are enjoying the weekend, celebrate the small victories!
:goodvibes
It may be totally in my head, but I'm pretty sure I had to jump and wiggle a little less to get into my pants this morning.

Melinda, I'm not sure how vegan it is but at Whole Foods they have some Quinoa and sweet potato cakes in the, deli dept???, where they have all the salads and stuff. Anyway, DH grilled them on a flat griddle pan, AMAZING!!!!

OH found a recipe!! And to funny, it calls for the Lundburg Rice blend!

Okay well Alan is doing last minute things for the animals and I sent in my WI. I need to get my laptop packed up and get my stuff in the car. I'll update when we get to Dallas tomorrow. I could get on the board from my BLackberry but its kind of a pain in the butt.

No superstition, I love Friday the 13th, but I'm a Halloween fanatic as well. I'm fascinated by the strange and unusual(to quote Beetlejuice, I myself am strange and unusual). I love scary movies and they always show some on Friday the 13th. It's nice to sit down with air popped corn and a Crystal Light lemonade and enjoy! I'm looking forward to it.

I weighed this morning and the scale finally moved! I had pretty much plateaued in the last month or so, only losing a few ounces a week. My scale measures fluid, fat, weight and BMI and my fat went up which usually means not enough calories so I'm going to tweak my plan slightly this week. It's hard to add calories when I see results even if I don't lose it exactly the right way but I'm going to try. I am looking forward to being in a healthy BMI range. I feel so close, yet so far away.

Go Rutgers!

Well, my dad was born on a Friday the 13th, so I guess that's good. OLTL is ending on a Friday the 13th, which is making me :sad1: today...

I don't have a real superstition, but let's just say I'm less surprised if things don't go right ;)

:welcome: Coach Michele! So nice to have a new coach! I mean in the Challenge, Nancy you know you are my girl  and you did a great job!

Michele I hope you get the traditional coaches "bump", most people seem to lose weight that week! Let's all tag along with Coach Michele and keep our momentum going! :yay:

Maria :upsidedow

Good Morning Everyone! Just an quick update from me, and I'll go back and do my replies. So the last 2 days have been a drag. I stayed home today from work with the flu. I've been feeling under the weather for the last 2 days, and this morning I woke up without a voice. :scared1::sick:

I did manage to weight myself this morning and well I stayed the same as last week. At least it wasn't a gain. I also kind of expected it since I really wasn't working out this week. Also I heard from the job I applied and "unfortunately they will not be able to extend an interview" :sad2: I really have to take my certification exams, I think that will up my worth. Hope everyone has a great weekend. :)

Just joined the challenge! hi Team Mickey!
Don't have time to catch up on the whole thread this morning, but hope to over the weekend....

I am about to turn 41, and need to loose 100 lbs. Ok, my doc and family don't think so, but I would love to. I got to my heaviest weight a couple of years ago and totally went into depression - but also got a Wii. I have since lost 50 lbs since then, but have a long way to go. I have also gained some of that back and hit a plateu that is the most frustrating thing.
Hoping that I can jump into this challenge and pick up running!

Weigh In was good news for me this morning! Down 3.5 more pounds! Total of 6lbs gone since Jan 1!!!! Really thrilled with that.

Successes of the week... started walking with a friend, instead of talking on the phone with her...ate at Cheesecake factory and ordered a delicious salad for under 600 calories.... walked dog most days...ate smart at breakfast and lunch all week...

Things to work on... plan meals...drink water...dinner portions...BLTs(bites, licks,tastes)...

Keep Going Team Mickey!!! We can do this!!

Hey guys. I'm almost embarrassed to pop in because I have NOT done well this week at all.

no, no, no....this is the PERFECT time for you to pop in, when you need the support! you can do it, this week will be better! we're in this together!

Just joined the challenge! hi Team Mickey!

:welcome: :welcome:

and thank you Michele for coaching this week!!

when i stepped on the scale this morning i thought i had gained, then i entered my weight in MFP and it said i lost a pound. well actually it's like 0.8 lb but it's a loss and i'll take it!

CONGRATS TO OUR LOSERS THIS WEEK!!!

CONGRATS TO MY TEAMMIES THAT ARE KEEPING ON...STAY STRONG! REMEMBER MAINTAINING IS A SUCCESSFUL WEEK!!

for those struggling..please hang in there with me! i'm struggling too!

i had a phone appt with my specialist doc last night and it was a bit of a reality check. he thinks i'll be heading back into the operating room for a second pituitary surgery, that I still have Cushings. I have been saying that for the past 6 weeks, but i needed to hear him affirm it to me. it accounts for me not losing weight despite counting calories and exercising, and also accounts for the muscle weakness that is getting worse again and making it difficult to exercise. but for now i'm going to approach each day as they come and continue to journal my food. I have to believe that being the healthiest i can be for surgery will set me up for an easier time at it.

QOTD -- not superstitous here either, don't mind having a little fun with it though

Okay well Alan is doing last minute things for the animals and I sent in my WI. I need to get my laptop packed up and get my stuff in the car. I'll update when we get to Dallas tomorrow. I could get on the board from my BLackberry but its kind of a pain in the butt.

Have a great drive! You have more of a haul than we do today, but I'll think good road thoughts for you when we hit the highway later today.

I absolutely love driving - it helps that our kids are great road-trippers, but I've always loved getting out on the road with a giant Diet Coke from McDs. My challenge has always been road snacks. Things I can get to easily and eat safely if DH is asleep (common on our overnight drives to WDW!). I love the mini BabyBel Light rounds, apples, and for the reaaallly long drives I'll pack 1/4-cup portions of dark chocolate m&m's for a sweet treat that doesn't get out of control portion-wise. Anyone else have good ideas for road trip snacks?

On another note, it had to happen - I completed opted out of working out today. I didn't sleep well last night (our kitten is convalescing in our bedroom/bathroom after her spay operation, and she's insanely active at night - and DH snores - and he put the bathroom light on so he wouldn't trip over the kitten's stuff in the middle of the night, and it kept me up, and ugh). So this morning I got up with everyone, helped get the girls ready for school, changed their beds, got their lunches from the fridge, checked that DD7 had her homework, etc. - and then I just knew I had to go back to sleep. At first I thought I'd just knock out a nap and then get up to exercise, but when the alarm went off again, I just couldn't.

I'm not beating myself up over this one, though. I exercised TEN DAYS IN A ROW, which has never happened in my whole life, and I'm planning on hitting the Y near my mother-in-law's house tomorrow morning, so our weekend away won't be devoid of exercise. I was OP all week and had a great weigh-in - down 4 pounds! - so you know what? I think I'm going to be okay with missing a workout today. I'll just make sure I'm OP for food.

I might not be back on again before we leave - hope everyone has a great weekend! I'll try to check in from grandma's house. :)

XO

I did resist snacking while watching TV! This has been difficult for me to stop doing. I am really happy about this!

This is a problem for me too... especially when Hubby is watching with me, because he can't seem to watch tv without snacking.

So.... I joined my fitness pal yesterday. So incredibly psyched that I found an extremely easy way to record my food. Wow! And so eyeopening! I didn't realize how many calories I was consuming with my little cookie here and there. I LOVE how it tells you how many calories you have left for the day. I found myself with only 324 left at 3 in the afternoon. Wow! I had to really make different choices for dinner.

I also loved how it told me how many calories I "earned" for my exercise. If I had time, I would have gone out for a quick jog or something to get a few more calories back!:good vibes

At the end of the day, I went over 67 calories. Not bad for a rookie!

Today I already made different choices for breakfast.

Have a great day Mickies!

Isn't it great? In NY all restaurants have to post calories on their menus, or on their signs if there is no menu. So it is really easy for me to know if I can afford that snack.

since i thoroughly cleaned the kitchen before the lady came to see the house, i didn't want to cook. we ordered chinese :scared1: but get this - i got steamed shrimp and string beans (usually get broccoli but nursing and broccoli are not a good combo) with NO sauce and brown rice. ate half of the brown rice serving and a ton of string beans and still have enough for lunch today. i treated myself to an egg roll and even with that had enough calories for a 100 calorie bag of popcorn. :woohoo:

well, i've run out of time yet again. have a great day everyone!! xoxo

I've started getting the steamed protein with string bean and brown rice with sauce on the side. We order chinese once a week so I really needed to find a healthy option. I also find that I don't even need the sauce and also save 1/2 for lunch. Also I discovered that I love brown rice I like the nuttiness.

Hi Michelle! Here are some  pixiedust: that you get better very soon! Have you tried any Emergen-C? That stuff is the bomb! Get well soon!

I will have to try this as well... I hate using my sick days for myself; I prefer to save them for my son.

Google search "Couch to 5K" sometimes written as C25K. There are lots of free versions of it online. Its a great program that starts with walking, then 30 seconds of jogging and back to walking. Its a 3 day a week program. Then when you see if you like it after the first week, look around for some local 5K's you might be able to join after your C25K program is over (8--12 weeks are most programs, I think.

This sound interesting, I'm going to look into this.

Today ended up being a very productive day. I meet with someone at the unemployment/job search center and now have a career counselor. I'll meet with her individually next week. I'm very excited about this and feeling much more optimistic! :cool1:

The place also has this cool computer center that has programs to help you improve some skills. I spent a good amount of time working on my typing. I thought I was a great typer in 4th grade, but some extra practice was great for me. I'll be doing that when I go back next week. There will also be a job fair late next week and I will go to that as well. I'm feeling good about things right now. :)

I went to 2 grocery stores today and still feel like we need more food in the fridge and pantry. I don't know if it's because of being GF or not, but I feel like I have so few options. I did find a product called "corn thins." They are basically like rice cakes, but thins like sandwich rounds. A 2 "thin" serving is 44 calories and they work well as bread! They also have a better shelf life than bread so I can mix things up too.

Dinner tonight was tacos. I was good about limiting my carbs and I had plenty of veggies, so overall not too bad. I would have drained the ground sirloin more and not fried the peppers, but dad was cooking and I can only argue so much (especially when I'm not home ;)).

My GI doctor's assistant called today. He wants me to take a med that seems to have more side effects than I have symptoms. I'm also confused because she did not seem to know anything about my allergy testing and wheat allergy. I've decided to insist upon speaking with my GI doctor himself before taking this med. I doubt he will have any issue with that. He is very good and knows that I take taking meds seriously. :thumbsup2

Well, I'm off to spend some time job searching. I've done that once today, but I like to use every opportunity possible to work on finding a job.

Have a great, OP day tomorrow everyone!

CC

Good luck on your job search as well. The career counselor sounds great... it's always nice to have someone to guide and encourage you. I think speaking to your GI DR before taking the meds. Especially if the side effects out weight what symptoms you already have.

GOOD MORNING MY LOVELY LOSERS!!!
QOTDs:

QOTD: POOF! :wizard: you're in Disney! Alone! No kids, work, pets, responsibilities! What SPECIAL event, show, tour, spa, little extra Disney thing would you like to do right now. Since you're alone you'll have plennnnty to time to ride whatever rides you want (did I mention there aren't any lines??) so what's that little somethin' somethin' extra you'd like to do?

as i look out into the dark and rainy sky i can't help but want to be whisked down to The Land pavilion (passing Gretchen as i go through the entrance) and over to the Behind the Seeds tour. there's is something about those mickey-shaped pumpkins that you see while on the Living with the Land ride that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. now, i'd really like to say i want to do the Wishes Dessert Party but i'm not sure that's allowed on the biggest loser forum :rolleyes1

have a great day everyone! sadly, poof! :wizard: you're back home. now make good decisions!

Nancy, don't get discourage by the scale. I'm not a salt person but maybe you should try to eliminate having a salt shaker(if you have one) Just keep the salt you use for cooking in cabinet were its out of sight.

Yesterday was a pretty nasty day and today is honestly just as bad!

QOTD: Well I would first stay at the Beach Club, and first thing in the AM I would go for a massage, then I would grab some breakfast. I would head of to DHS to see Beauty and the Beast  then the rest of the day I would spend shop and hotel hopping. I love the rides and the shows but I love to do that with my family. Going to WDW by myself sounds heavenly but if I go I would not spend a lot of my time on rides. I would people watch, walk around and pay attention to all the small details I might miss when I'm rushing around with my family.

I'm scheduled to leave on May 11th. I may try to extend though, so I'll let you know.

YAY! I will FB message you when we are there, so we can look out for you when we visit. We will be there from May 6th - May 12th

on my next trip to disney in may i'm booked not only for a SPA treatment :woohoo: but also the keys to the kingdom tour :woohoo::woohoo: it's a combo birthday/christmas/thanks for popping out another kid present from hubby. can't wait :)

Love this! I might have to add that to my list of wants when I have my second child. :rotfl2:

BTW: Thanks for coaching this week... great job!

My parents never really played into that Friday the 13th stuff, so for me its just a regular day. But yes it is nice to have some fun with it.

Tomorrow I board the train to Chicago! We will see how it goes eating wise. I will be eating 2 meals on the train on Friday and one meal on Sunday. Almost all my meals are provided by the conference, so I have no idea what the will be like. Oh well.

My WI this week was not great. I only lost .2 despite having a stellar week. I'm sure it was the steroids, but it was disappointmenting none the less. Oh well. Maybe next week will be better.

Have a great trip!

Weigh In was good news for me this morning! Down 3.5 more pounds! Total of 6lbs gone since Jan 1!!!! Really thrilled with that.

It is frustrating! But your body is adjusting to things. Aren't you tapering now too? HI!! Today is a rest day for me. Time for me to regroup. I'm not on my taper yet. I am doing my longest run (13 miles) tomorrow. Its supposed to be between 14 and 18 degrees during the time I'm running. It will feel so good to run in California compared to this! I have a full week of strength training, running, yoga, and spin class, long run of 8 miles next Saturday the 21st, and taper after that. I'm not sure what my trainer has planned for me that week, but probably the strength training and some shorter runs and yoga for sure, and spin.

Every little bit I lose between now and race day will help! :) Good luck to everyone this week, and keep that motivation!

Who all is running the Tinker Bell Half? :cool1:

Nope nothing special about today. I don't really believe in superstitious stuff though.

Love it!!!!!

DS doesn't really seem to care either way, which is kind of sad. Me personally, I'm having a nagging feeling that I made a mistake switching him. We'll see what happens.

That sounds amazing! If you ever see the recipe there please share it. Our local Whole Foods is called the "Whole Foods Co-Op". Honestly I dont think it has anything to do with the national chain Whole Foods. Its a bit confusing for people like me who used to live near one of those other Whole Foods.

QOTD Friday 1/13: In the US, Friday the 13 is considered "unlucky." I weighed this morning and the scale finally moved!

Congrats on the weight loss! What kind of scale is that you have? It sounds awesome!

Congrats on the maintain! That is a win!!! Don't worry about the job. Another opportunity will come up soon! :thumbsup2:

Just joined the challenge! hi Team Mickey!
Don't have time to catch up on the whole thread this morning, but hope to over the weekend....

I am about to turn 41, and need to loose 100 lbs. Ok, my doc and family don't think so, but I would love to. I got to my heaviest weight a couple of years ago and totally went into depression - but also got a Wii. I have since lost 50 lbs since then, but have a long way to go. I have also gained some of that back and hit a plateu that is the most frustrating thing.
Hoping that I can jump into this challenge and pick up running!

:welcome: This is a great group and you're sure to learn lots. Its a great place to share your successes, get your quesitons answered, and to have someone commiserate who really understands! :)

Way to go on the weight loss! Woo hoo!

no, no, no....this is the PERFECT time for you to pop in, when you need the support! you can do it, this week will be better! we're in this together!

Congrats on the loss this week! Good luck with the doctor!

XO
Liz

wow you had a busy morning! And good for you for the ten days in a row of exercising! That is great! Its important to have at least one rest day a week, I have heard. Good job!! :thumbsup2:

Ok, I'm back! Havent been around since last Friday. I just read the post where I was tied for #5 in the weigh in results for last week :cool1:, but I sure wont be this week. I had a big old ZERO lbs weight loss this week!! :scared1:  The dreaded week 2, or in my case, eating healthy and NOT excercising :sad2:

We were out of town last weekend for a family reunion, and lets just say there were NO healthy options around. I did drink water all weekend instead of alcohol though. I got plenty of excercise chasing around my 2 and 3 yr olds up and down stairs, but that has been about the extend of it since we got back. We (DH & I) have both been just exhausted since we came home, so we have taken this past week to just get to bed early each night. We both feel so much better, so I am hoping we will work out tonight.

We have been eating really healthy. I have been doing good at eating breakfast each morning. Still need to get my water intake up ;) Instead of the "bad for us" sweets we would eat almost nightly, now I will eat greek yogurt (love the Strawberry, Strawberry Banana and Blueberry varieties, DH loves the honey). It has seemed to help. Its not something I am doing nightly, just here and there.

Determined to have a better week 3!

It will probably take me a day or 2 to go back through all the posts from the week, but I will sure try and comment where I can.
