Allears has the price of the surfing classes as $135 per person but that's as of Sept. '03. Does anyone know if that's still the price or if its gone up?

Thanks!

Yep the prices are still the same and it is well worth the $$ . Just dont plan on doing too much else after you finish the lessons , My ex DW and I were EXHAUSTED

Thanks for the info! We were thinking of letting our 17 yr. old DS do this with his friend. The rest of our itinerary for that day consists of spending some more time at TL (they can float around the lazy river if they are exhausted!) Go back to Pop and take a nap then go to Disney Quest for as long as we'd like. Does that sounds doable?

Also would they allow 3 of us to go in and watch?

Thanks!

Anyone else think 135 is *way* too expensive even taking into account that it's WDW and everything's expensive?! When I read about the surf lessons I was going to sign up my two boys for them but at a cost of 270 dollars I don't think so!

yes they did allow us to bring DW mom with us and she took pictures of us. Just ask before you get there. Your plan for the day seems very doable and smart

What we're doing for our DS (and other family is doing the same), we're paying half of the cost if he's willing to pay the other half. Also it lasts 2 1/2 hrs. so that's quite a long time. We thought about doing parasailing and its a little cheaper but lasts maybe 1/4 of the time.

That sounds like a great plan! I think you'd get the value out of it for teenagers. My kids are younger - 8 and 11 - so I don't think it would be worth it for them because they might lose interest half way through. It might be nice if there was an introductory one-hour lesson for the 8-12 age group for maybe 50 dollars or so. Hope your son has a wonderful time :)

Liz, I think your plan sounds reasonable. It is an early morning, esp. for a teen! My dd who did it was 10 at the time, and we stayed at TL after surfing until about 1:00. I don't think we had anything else planned that day, but DQ would be a good option. Yes, you are able to stay and watch, but you need to exite and re-enter with your ticket to stay for the day. They escorted us out, but let us leave our towels on chairs before we left, so we already had a spot staked out for the day!

This was a "special" thing for her to do, and I told her if she wanted to do it again she was going to pay for at least part of it next time herself. The neat thing about learning to surf at TL as opposed to the ocean is it's a controlled environment, you always get the "perfect" wave. If I remember correctly she got 12 waves to try to ride.
In contrast, a friend's dd took lessons last summer and hardly had any waves to ride, it's the luck of the draw in the ocean. This wasn't in FL, but she said it was expensive, I don't remember how much she said it was though. You can always check out prices at Cocoa Beach too.
The instructors were wonderful, very professional and encouraging. DD loved it! I'm sure your guys will too! I think it was well worth the money.

Part of that time is on land, getting instruction. I think there was 10-12 participants, Once the surfing starts you go out 2 at a time, so you aren't in the water the whole time.

This is an introductory lesson and there were people of all ages learning together! A couple other girls my dd's age, two adults and the rest were teen-college age. One girl my dd's age stopped after the 1st try because she didn't get it, her mom said that was just her personality. My dd kept at it and managed to actually ride one wave. I have pics and video of it, and the look on her face riding that one wave after all her hard work was so worth it!

This is one of the coolest things to do at WDW. We have done it twice and it is worth every penny. Where else can you get the one on one instruction when you are in the water at this price with controlled waves.

So yes it is worth every penny and if I were to write a book it would be a must do. You are exhausted afterwords. My DW and I did it on our honeymoon and then went over to Sci Fi dine in for an early lunch, then back to the room for a nap.

Reading these responses make me even more excited for the boys to try this! They are both snowboarders. Wonder if that'll help them catch on to surfing more easily?!
