Surf School at Typhoon Lagoon

Has anyone taken this class at Typhoon Lagoon? Good? Bad? Are there any discounts via AP or DVC?

My sister dad and I did this last year. It was amazing! We had to wake up very early, but the wave pool was heated. The instructors were great and spent alot of time encouraging and instructing you. They pushed your board into the wave to be sure you didn't miss it. It was definately a hilight of our trip!

is there a minimum age? and is a Water Parks pass required (with this question I'm assuming the class is prior to the park opening)?

My husband did it a couple of years ago, and really enjoyed it. There were a mix of older and younger people, men and women in his class.

All of the swimming, jumping up on the board (and falling off), and then hauling the board back to the start position after a ride, is a physical workout. If you have time before your trip, some upper body strength training might be helpful.

It sure is. Something I learned the hard way in Hawaii!

My kids did it when they were teens. They had a blast and it was fun to watch. I can't remember if there was an age requirement, but you need to be a strong swimmer. As others have said, it is quite a workout. I think you needed to exit the park after the lesson, so I'm not sure if park admission is needed.

I am a surfer and I wanted to try it out. I was highly impressed with the surf school. The waves are PERFECT! They were great with the inexperienced guests as well. Pretty much everyone caught at least one wave by the end. They also can adjust wave size based on your experience, which I thought was super cool. Here is a pic of me in 2007 (Good lord, my hair was short)

Minimum age is 8.

Cost is $150.You do not need a TL ticket, but all Guests attending/participating are escorted out of the Park prior to Park Opening.

They provide the surfboards.
