We will be going to WDW last week in oct/first week in nov.

we have been down many times and were thinking of maybe finding a nice place to eat outside the parks. We will be at the food and wine festival as much as possible but are just thinking of maybe making a night out of the park area.

we like steakhouses and italian and american.

not big seafood eaters. thanks

A few questions first as it can make a big difference in the suggestions you get.

1) Adults only or family dining?
2) Any price points?
3) Are you interested in chain restaurant family fare, all-you-can-eat-without-exploding buffet, or fine dining?
4) What is your favorite Disney restaurant that you would hold this up to?

Without recommending anything specific, we always check the Orlando Sentinel's dining section (available on-line) to see what is hot and new and well rated. Orlando actually has a very good dining scene outside the world; you can get almost anything you want...

Note: most threads on dining here seem to lean heavily to the buffet side; google any restaurant suggestions to see if it is what you really want. Almost everyone has their menu online nowadays.

Adults only. chains are ok but we have them at home so rather something unique to the FL or Orlando area.

For Steakhouses, how about Charley's Steakhouse? There's one on International Drive and another off SR192 in Kissimmee near Celebration.

Or DelFrisco's in northern Orlando (or just north of Orlando) up near Winter Park.

For an adults only meal our favorite remains Seasons 52 on West Sand Lake (Dr. Phillips area). They have a seasonally varied menu with a focus on local foods. Quality and presentation are very good, portions are reasonable (not huge). Deserts come in cool little glasses; they are all 2-bites; just enough to calm the sweet tooth without sending insulin levels off the chart.

Itallian - Carrabbas, or this one by outback steak house i forgot its name, i think its caloled DiMaggios or something (ill find out tomorrow because ill be in WDW)

Steak - Black Angus :)

Also Colombia Restaurant in Celebration. If you have the time it is worth driving to the St. Armands location in Sarasota.

Fleming's Steakhouse at Lee Rd. and 17/92 in Winter Park or Del Frisco's on Lee Rd. just west of I/4. Season's 52 is alright as well.

Oooh, we still want to try this one. We hit Bongo's in DTD because it was convenient after La Nouba. HUGE mistake!!! I've heard really good things about Colombia. Top of our list for the next trip!

We wanted to try bangos. I guess you didn't think it was good?

We have eaten there many, many times. We enjoy the 9 pm show. The last two times we were there it was pretty bad. One of the times the service was so bad that we laughed the whole way through the meal. We used to really enjoy the place and hope that they get their act together soon.

Perkins - good food - small cost.

go to the one of US192 - not 535 - 535 is a little closer to Disney - and it gets the crowds.

us 192 is not generally crowded.

this place actually looks really good.

I just arrived in Orlando today, and we passed Black Angus and it is closed down. The sign is still up, so maybe they are doing refurb, cuz it didn't look too disasterous and the place was kinda old fashion. However, there is another steak place across from it. It's pretty big and has neon lights, I think it's next the Mcdonalds on 192, and its DELISH. Expensive but delish. :/
Angels was also good, but not as nice of Clientel.
I do strongly suggest Carrabbas tho, they have good steak and itallian fare. :)

If you want a really great adult dining experience try the bull and bear restaurant at the Waldorf. The chocolate Souffle is to die for. The steaks there are amazing. Really great atmosphere. I always make a ressie there when I am in town.

It is geared to getting you out quickly. The service was so quick, it was rushed. And our meals appeared SO quickly it could only have come off of a steam table. There is no way that food can be prepared fresh that quickly, and the quality and heat showed it.

The only saving grace was a yummy Mojito; there was no live entertainment when we were there...

If there is a chain "family restaurant" with two or more locations anywhere in the continental US, you can be sure that one of those locations is within 5 minutes of a WDW border. Like invasive weeds in a garden, they tend to choke out anything local.

You can go a little more upscale up by the convention center, with their expense-account-bearing guests, but still need to search a little for something "local". The Dr. Phillips area is one place to look.
