Hi this is my first post hope someone can help thinking of staying at Hiltonhead sometime next year between June and September flying in from the UK wondered what is the closest international airport how far from airport to resort any local places of interest

the savannah/hilton head airport is about 45 miles (about 1 hour depending on traffic) from the disney resort, so a rental car is essential.

hilton head is mostly about quiet beach relaxation and great food, IMO. you can rent bikes to check out the island if you are active. if you are driving, leave extra time to get somewhere as signage and lighting at night are very limited.

And about golf-don't forget the golf! DH golfs there every year-he's very proud of the fact that he's played every non-private course on the island by now. If Savannah airport doesn't have a flight at a convenient time or price, Charleston (2 hours) or Jacksonville (3 hours) are also options, although Savannah is by far the most convenient. I read recently that the airport right on the island is being expanded, so you might want to check into that also.

Id like to say a big thank you to everyone who has replied the infomation is going to make the planning a lot easier were hoping to spend maybe 4 or 5days relaxing then travel down to WDW

The closest INTERNATIONAL airport is probably Atlanta. Savannah/Hilton head is a small airport. We live in Atlanta and drive there. It is around 4 1/2 to 5 hour, drive to hilton head. I'm sure you could get a commuter flight to savannah easily then about 30 mins to 1hour depending on traffic. We love it there!! Enjoy your trip!

The airport in Savannah is an Intl. Airport but a smaller one where you generally have to connect. Charlotte (US air), ATL, Jacksonville would all be good options to fly into and get a car driving the rest of the way.

HH is very comfortable for me. Early June and late Aug to Sept will be easier, cheaper and less crowded and possibly a little cooler depending. I agree with the car, I wouldn't go without one.

US Airways flys from Heathrow to Charlotte NC. I guess that would be closer than ATL, although there will be more flights from the UK to ATL.

You'll just love Disney HHI. Once you cross the little bridge to the resort it's like another world. Very quiet and relaxed.
