Which one do you say?

A)

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man.
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Pat it and prick it and mark it with B,
Put it in the oven for baby and me.

B)

Patty cake, patty cake, baker's man.
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Roll it up, roll it up;
And throw it in a pan!

Which do you say and where do you live? I grew up with A. in Michigan, though sometimes it would come out as "Patty cake" more than "Pat-a-cake".

The first time I heard version B. was when my MIL down here said it to my oldest. I thought it was just something weird she was doing, but no, that's how they say it down here.

ETA: Just noticed version A is slightly different than what we said. We said "roll it and pat it and mark it with a B," not "pat it and prick it."

C)

Patty cake, patty cake, baker's man,
Bake me a cake as fast as you can.
Roll it, and pat it, and mark it with a B,
then throw it in the oven for baby and me!

That's more like what we said. Did you grow up in Chicago? Being from SW Michigan, right across the lake, we always seemed to have more in common with Chicago than the rest of Michigan.

This is what we learned too--and when you "throw" it in the oven you take the babies arms and raise them up over their head like you are throwing something.

GA here; we learned:

Patty-cake, patty-cake baker's man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can
Roll the dough, roll the dough (as you "roll" baby's arms around one another)
Throw it in the pan! (as you lift baby's arms up high)

I seem to say a combo of A and B ;

Patty cake Patty cake, Baker's Man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can
roll it, pat it,and mark it with a B
and put it on the oven for Baby and Me!

ETA; I'm from CT

Pat a cake, Pat a cake, baker's man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Pat it and prick it and mark it with a 'B',
And put it in the oven for baby and me.

One that slightly annoys me is the Itsy Bitsy Spider. I HATE when people say Eensy Weensy Spider :headache: It's Itsy Bitsy people!!!
